Thanks, this made sense until the end. What happened to the height of the boat above water plus tide plus depth to equal length?

Jim, I'm sorry if this is confusing, I'm not sure what you mean by "length"? Height is defined in the early part of the video, at the end I use the term height meaning as it was defined?

Hi. What do you mean by safety length? Is it for a gale or a storm? What about where you have a mixed chain / rope rode? In my case I have 90 feet of chain followed by 100+ feet of rope. Thanks

Phil Most anchor rides are chain and rope, with chain equal to the length of the boat. With more chainor all chain, you can get the same result with less scope. I dont have an expert answer as how much less. For me the 7:1 safety scope is for overnight or leaving the boat. For storm conditions 7;1 is more a minimum, I try to use all the rode I can, 10:1 is nice.

What l dont get at the end of the video, with the 4 to 1 or 7 to1 scope length, why was the 4ft for boat height not in the calculation?

I need to know how much rope do I get for my bayliner 175

The length you need depends on the depth you are going to be anchoring in.The deeper the depth, the more line you need to establish proper scope.
