Interesting that you pick up on the arcade sound. You might enjoy their song "Pinball Wizard".

John Entwistle absolutely killing it on the bass (like he does in every other Who song). This song is so against type for The Who but it just shows how versatile a band they were. TGB (truly great band).

I grew up in NY in the 60s and 70s. So I saw 👀 and heard a lot. The emerging disco scene where radio stations would smash disco tracks on air. The Vietnam War, racial riots, Kent State massacre, The brutal slaying of John Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Bobbie Kennedy, John Lennon, Woodstock, just to name a few things that happened. The emergence of all these bands during the 60s and 70s and 80s. So when the Who released this song in 82 it literally was about how the rich stole from the middle class to lead a hedonistic lifestyle. Come and join the party dressed to kill. People forget. While they get high snorting coke. Yeah this song seems to bring back a few bad memories about how fd up life could be.

What a song. Maybe showing what direction The Who may have taken had they not taken a long break for the rest of the '80's (and most of the '90's).

Funny that you talked about guys getting ready to go out and party to this song. I lived in a house on a Harbor in Connecticut from 1985 to 1988. We had a stereo system that went throughout the house. Five guys lived there. On Friday night we had three or four songs that got played before we went out to the bars. This was one of them. It got played first. As soon as you heard that intro you knew it was party time. Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel was another. I don’t remember the other two offhand, but they were rockin tunes. Also the Dallas Mavericks use this as their intro music.

Yep. I always saw this song as putting down the rise of self-absorption and narcissism that started happening with the yuppies in the 80's...

If I recall, he wrote this song or based it on people he saw or would see at the big clubs like studio54 or something like that. Not sure, but you can look it up

It’s not disco but bc it’s so funky, I do get your point with masculine funk & I agree with you! Very cool sexy song

There have been arcade games for many decades, going back to the 1920s & 30s with pinball games. You are thinking about video games that introduced musical backgrounds.

Pete townsend rocks. Writes all the music. Kenny Jones who played for the band, faces. Took over for Keith moon. Disco sucks. blue jean army(that term is from the '70s) say no to polyester. great reaction rock on.

Keith Moon changed The Who two times. The first time was when he joined, and the second time was when he died.

Damn dude… I’m shocked you didn’t mention anything about that nasty bass line!! I mean… you initially did but mistook it for the lead guitar. 😂 One of the best bassists of ALL TIME! John Entwistle!!!

I like The Who and I like this song. But I am glad that you did not show the original video. I remember seeing it and thinking that they looked like they didn't really want to be there. They broke up after this album was released. And speaking of disco, they have a song called Sister Disco which is definitely negative toward that music.
