"Eminence Front" is the greatest song to come out of the Kenny Jones era. The synthesizer lines are awesome. John's bass playing is simply wicked. And Pete's lyrics are downright vitriolic. These are the reasons why this tune is a timeless classic!

Love the simplicity of the song, so closet guitarists like me can play most of The Who's songs because they are relatively easy to play, excluding the Townsend Solo's. Pete's a pretty good singer and I liked how Roger Daultry sang backup while playing guitar. I've always wondered if Keith Moon was alive, would he have played the drum part differently than Kenny. I'm Canadian, so I'm proud of the great success of The Guess Who but The Who are in my top 10 of all the greatest bands of all time. Townshend's body of work is absolutely phenomenal as his originality, breakthroughs with key boards and synthesizers in a rock band were amazing. He was the total package when it came to writing great songs with great lyrics, choreographing and composing like no other and even making movies. Smashing up equipment was an added bonus to the live show. Again very original. Tommy, Quadraphenia, songs like Pinball Wizard, Live Reign Or' Me, Baba O'Reilly, Won't Get Fooled Again, Can't Explain, etc, etc. and on and on is quite a legacy to leave behind. Anyways Randy Bachman, guitarist for the later named Guess Who and Pete Townshend both picked the same name for their respective bands. So when Randy met up with Pete in an English pub, he was going to lay claim to the name "The Who". He confronted Townshend, who was drinking and probably on drugs at the time. Pete told Bachman to f*ck off, laughed in his face and proceeded to ignore him. So an always sober Bachman decided this was a war he couldn't win cause lawyers cost money and he had none, so he changed his band name to The Guess Who. I guess Pete got his point across. LOL. In my opinion, The Who are right up there with Led Zeppelin and The Stones. Rock on Pete, you have my admiration and awe.

Here's what the song is about... "In the song, Townshend sings about the delusions and drug use of the wealthy and hedonistic. The lyrics describe a party in which people hide from their problems behind a façade. Townshend has introduced the song in live performances with: "This song is about what happens when you take too much white powder; it's called 'Eminence Front'". And they're British, not Canadian. They're one of the bands they are referring to if you have ever heard the term "British Invasion" in music of the late '60's.

@olatunjiemanuel812
@olatunjiemanuel812 3 жыл бұрын
I understand John is universally regarded as one of the top three and for many the greatest bassist of all time. As far as I am aware he is far from underrated. In fact he is the only member of the band (one of the most talented ever individually and collectively) to have such universal acclaim for his instrument. Keith Moon is ranked usually in the top two among rock drummers and Townshend in the top ten among guitarists. The only one who is underrated in my opinion is Daltrey who has a voice that is just insane, but bizarrely never appears to be ranked among the top ten rock vocalists.

Dominic Rossitto I’ve got to add to this, because they later released the 33 songs that is Live at Leeds. As great as the original 6 songs were, it’s just a small taste of everything else on it, including all of Tommy. Even though it’s deemed as arguably the greatest live album of all time, it seems like the later releases flew under the radar, making it an underrated performance all together.

When I 1st heard Eminence Front by The Who was an Episode of Miami Vice called Killshot their on Don Johnson aka Sonny Crockett's boat making a 2 key drug deal. Crockett's cop buddy's r undercover waiting on Crockett's word, then when he says the word then the cops start shooting n the fireworks start to happen. Then Crockett starts his fast boat then rides away from his cop buddies as they chase him n the drug dealer in their boat as they hide n try to make a set up meeting with a drug cartel. Then he drop's off the dealer in the water n takes off on his boat. I also heard this song on a AWA American Wrestling Association promo intro. This would be a great intro song for wrestling or boxing. U need to a reaction to Won't get fooled again n Roger Daltrey's After The Fire.
