He was a true superstar and I really miss that golden age of wrestling, which today's wrestling can't compete with the wrestling or wrestlers of yesterday. Other than their run with the championship belt from February 5, 1988 (The Main Event) to March 27, 1988 (Wrestlemania 4), neither Andre The Giant nor The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase have *_Never, even one time_* held the belt in the *WWF/WWE* It's a damn shame if I do say so myself. They were both 2 of the absolute *_BEST_* Villains in *WWE* history. Hands down. In fact, I believe they were both in the Top 2 of Best Villains Ever in WWE. Not sure who I'd put as #1, but they both deserve it.

If the job of a villain is to make you want to see them lose, then Flair or Piper have to be #1 for me. This whole angle with Andre never made sense because they acknowledged that the referee for the February 5 match was an imposter. First time I ever saw this interview. Tough sell to go on TV for this type of interview when you are in a big time heel role before a big show. Dibiase played his part well. Only problem with the buying of the title angle is once Andre was awarded the belt and gave it to Dibiase they came up with all that legal crapola, declared the belt vacant, and used that to set up Wrestlemania 4. The intelligent fan figures they knew all that legal crap to begin with that no wrestler could actually ever buy the title outright. So it was strung along and then duh. Certainly everything is predetermined of course but a decent angle that actually was derailed by a technicality. Took the belt off Hogan without damaging his credibility. Turned out though to be the start of Savage's push with the belt which he deserved. Dibiase deserved a run for at least a few months with the belt also. He of course had that million dollar belt a little later. Biggest difference with wrestling today as opposed to back then, besides the popularity certainly, is the fact you didn't need to put a belt on a guy (or gal) to push them or feature them. You had favorites who didn't need to wear the belt or any belt. Other titles still meant something too. IC, Tag belts, now they seriously pale in comparison. The split brand had one advantage in that with multiple championship belts, World/WWE/Universal your main event at Wrestlemania wasn't predetermined after the Royal Rumble. Bottom line, when you over promote the top belt you under promote the lesser titles and the rest of the business or company as a whole.
@username-zj9id2 жыл бұрын
The whole thing never made sense to me, even as a kid. They said the belt couldn't be returned to hogan because he was pinned. But if the guy refereeing the match wasn't a real referee, then his officiating means nothing and the match never legally took place.
