I told you theres a great run of stories at the 2nd half of this season!!! The master is a big deal for dr who fans... in early 70s (3rd doctor) they wanted to create an evil baddie that was his intellectual equal (like Moriarty to sherlock Holmes) hence they created a rogue time lord that calls himself the master.... hes been in dozens of classic who stories but this is his first time in new who....

Derek Jacobi is such a brilliant actor. It’s a pity he couldn’t remain as the Master for a little while longer after this episode. The moment when he changes from the affable Professor Yama to the Master is utterly chilling - all with just a look in his eyes! I think you will enjoy John Simm as the Master as well, though. As others have said, the Master is a villain from Classic Who, and has been played by several actors over the years. He’s the Doctor’s arch enemy - a Time Lord if equal intelligence, but utterly evil. The roller coaster has only just started, my friend. You’re in for a wild ride the next couple of episodes!😀

The Master was a renegade Time Lord and is one of The Doctors greatest enemies in Classic Who like The Daleks and the Cybermen. His first appearance was 50 years ago in 1971 in a 4 part episode called 'Terror of the Autons' with The Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) The voices you hear in Yana/Masters head were some of the original actors Roger Delgado and Anthony Ainley who have previously played The Master in Classic. This Master is played by Derek Jacobi and of course at the end John Simm the sixth Master I wish we had more of Jacobi who's only been The Master for a few seconds then shot he's gone and regenerates. In NuWho so far just to save confusion in Classic The Doctor sometimes has more than 1 or 2 or 3 companions but they were all main regulars but with NuWho his only main regular companions so far were Rose and Martha so he's only had 1 companion basically Rose's mum Jackie or Mickey or Captain Jack are basically recurring or guest Companions they don't necessarily count because they only appear once or four episodes in a series.

This episode goes from 0 to 100 real quick 😅 but it's such a good episode! The Master is a villain from the old series but makes such a great comeback in this episode where no one really expects it. To answer your question, yes, the Doctor has had multiple companions for a season or longer in both old and new who. 3 is the most the Doctor has ever had though (If I remember correctly). It actually creates a pretty interesting dynamic when you get more than one consistent companion on board the tardis!

Do you remember the Face of Bo saying 'You Are Not Alone'?....YANA?.....that was one big hint!. The Master was originally played by Roger Delgado in the 70's, who tragically died in a car accident in Turkey. Later he was played by Anthony Ainley and the new series portrays him as a former Gallifreyan friend who attended Time Lord academy with the Doctor.

That little kid who works in the base won a competition to appear on the show.I think it was blue Peter, a British kids show over here. If you watched drag race UK, the winners win Ru Peter badges when they win the challenges which is a reference to ‘blue Peter’. Bit of pointless info there 😂 Also, I really enjoy this episode which is strange because it’s essentially a whole episode of just a bunch of people talking to each other, but I think it’s done so well

This is such a fun episode. The notional plot is barely a plot, but we get some great character stuff, and the director turns all the elements into a real rollercoaster ride. And Derek Jacobi is brilliant; to look like a different person through subtle changes to his facial expression, before he even says anything, and with his eyes somehow becoming icy cold like that... wow. The director, Graeme Harper, was the first person to direct a story in both classic and new Who. A shout out to Murray Gold's music, too!

But also have another adventures with him they are in the audiobooks i will share later a link to mi cloud from Mega i have in there almost all the audiobooks from Doctor who the classic and the new who. I think I said this in another reaction. For the first two Doctors there was always at least two companions except for one story. Sometimes it would be this companion or companions would leave in one story (with at least one companion staying with the Doctor) and the new companion would be introduced in the very next story.

To answer your question: this last season, the doctor has 3 companions throughout the entire season. I don’t recall the doctor ever picking up a stray for more than a couple of episodes though. I think there’s a guy in the classic who that he picked up in addition to the standard companions. He was the first gay character on the show I think. Don’t quote me on that. It was implied but not as blatant as it is with captain jack. He lasted for quite a number of episodes, but my memory is not that great so I might be wrong. There are other modern seasons where he has more than one companion throughout.
@Gingerprince521
@Gingerprince521 2 жыл бұрын
There was never a gay companion in the classic series although one of the Doctor's associates was retroactively made gay many years later in spin off material. Hard to believe that when the show first started being gay was still illigal.
@fxbear

@@Gingerprince521 I must be confusing the actor who played Adric with the character then. Told you my memory is crap. They had gay characters in other shows in the 70’s before it was legal didn’t they? Thinking of “are you being served” and the like.

"By the end of the episode that old guy will be a villan" ..... one of the best in Who history, you haven't met my favourite yet. Simm's Master is perhaps my least favourite incarnation, the Master in the classic series was scheming, but suave and charming. The Simm version is somewhat of a departure from that - and beyond that character change, many of his stories have a Harry Potter moment that ruins the immersion for me. Neither are his fault, and the change of character isn't even bad, but just means his isn't the Master I grew up with. I expect you will enjoy that portrayal though. Its often said the Master is the Doctor's version of Sherlock Holmes' Moriarty. The Simm version is perhaps more like Batman's Joker.
@markharris1125

So glad you liked this one. I prefer the previous three a bit, just for the inventiveness of the storytelling - but this is a great episode, with terrific support from John Barrowman as Jack and Chipo Chung as Chantho. And a majestic guest starring part by Sir Derek Jacobi as Professor Yana and ultimately the Master. So, my story about Derek Jacobi. He was a protégé of Laurence Olivier at the National Theatre in London. He came to national fame in the BBC series I, Claudius, where he played the Roman Emperor from his teenage years to an old dying man. I saw him play Hamlet yonks ago. He's been a regular on stage, in TV and in movies ever since. He's won BAFTAs, Tonys and Emmys. Remember in the first episode of this season, the little alien lady with the little straw she used to drain people's blood? Well, she was played by Anne Reid, who also did a TV show with Derek Jacobi called Last Tango in Halifax. So they're friends. Two years ago, they appeared together for a one night 'Audience With Derek Jacobi' at a theatre in London. Of course I was there in the second row, because I just love him. Anyway, he told entertaining stories of his life growing up in the East End, and working in theatre and film - and then they talked about appearing in Doctor Who! I was so afraid they'd ignore it, because it must be such a small part of such a long, full life. But no, they talked about it and it got a cheer when he mentioned it, so there must have been plenty of Whovians in the audience. There were a few audience questions at the end, but sadly the mike never got to me. This is what I'd have said: "I've watched Doctor Who almost since the start, and I've seen you play Hamlet and Claudius and so many other parts, but I have to say that nothing impressed me more than those moments when you transformed from Yana into the Master. It was a masterpiece of a performance. And for those couple of minutes that you were the Master, you were the best Master there has ever been. And please, just for me, will you look me in the eye and hiss: "I - am - the - Ma- ster" because that will make my day and my life."

Finally, my favourite villan ever has arrived! I hope the comments don't delve too much into this villan's backstory, but it's so so interesting! If you ever want to learn more about a Who character, the Master is a great pick - I can't wait to get your opinion on him! Have you missed Jack also? One of my favourite companions, this episode had everything. Will Torchwood reactions also be uploaded to KZfaq if/when you do them? As a few comments have already said, there has been multiple companions before, in both Nu and Classic series. The series with this, imo, have a very different feel to others - especially Classic episodes, the dynamics between companions could shape entire episodes (often the case with my favourite ever companion, a fan favourite from the Second Doctors run) and on rare instances, the direction of a while season (one of the most loved story arch's from the Fifth doctor's era was routed in the tension between companions arguing, with lasting impact afterwards). Interestingly, companions often fought between themselves in Classic - the DRAMA! What's your stance on hearing about little things from the Classic series? I try to keep it vague or minimum, but I know I and other commenters would hate to be potentially spoiling things if you ever plan to explore some Classic, or just generally want to avoid hearing about it!
