this is what The Economist wrote a couple of days ago “Ms Truss entered Downing Street on 6 September. She blew up her own government with a package of unfunded tax cuts and energy-price guarantees on 23 September.Take away the 10 days of mourning after the death of the Queen, and she had seven days in control. That is the shelf-life of a lettuce.” 🤣

Marr is correct, there are substantial energy savings to be made in most households and a simple government information advert would be common sense. I went around every electrical appliance in my house and switched them on and off and checked their usage while on standby and when in use. The biggest standby parasite was my microwave which I used to leave on 24/7. It used 4p an hour on standby! It may not seem much but left on all year now costs a staggering £350, ON STANDBY! I have a fluorescent light that uses 10p an hour that I used to switch on when it got dark and leave on all evening, I changed to led lights and they barely register. So I leave them off when not in use and I'm saving £40 a month as a result. The government should do a nuts and bolts testing of standby costs and put out a public info advert. It would save the population tens of millions a year.

She had jumped on her bandwagon too and was promoting her at Liz Truss’s hustings. I think you can’t really leave a major decision of choosing a PM with 0.5% of the population of a country. Now that 99.5% of people will suffer.

The BoE can't really do much to protect the economy when the government doesn't consult with economic experts about the effects of their planned economic policy. Economics is as much about demonstrating a logical philosophy and understanding the psychology of actors in the system as it is managing numbers. Even if all the numbers make sense (which I doubt in this case) it's all a moot point if you fail to present the plan in a comprehensive and reassuring manner. Suddenly dropping ideologically radical plans on the system with no consultation is the exact opposite.

We're all for tax cuts but you need to improve everyone's pay first because the huge number of companies employees having to make their wages up through benefits is a deadly scar on the taxation and welfare system. It's not as though companies aren't making huge profits, they can certainly afford to increase wages tremendously.

This is the same flawed "they're all just as bad as each other" argument. The quality of MPs, from all parties isn't the same. Yeah there is probably plenty of duffers in LAbour, the SNP and the Lib Dems. But at least those 3 didn't actively sideline competent MPs or expel them from the party because they were making the incompent ones look bad. Just take a look at the quality of Boris Johnson's cabinet, and the quality of Truss'. You're lucky to get some D-listers, and a few C-lister who have managed to keep their heads down. Mostly it's F-grade politicians and administrators. Just like how Truss is a F-grade PM who should never have been in cabinet let alone given the job as PM.
