I am SO glad you got Santino on this. To be in the same calibre of guests as you've had already, and I'm guessing some of the superstars to come, it's fantastic. He's such a good podcaster, a really good actor in whatever movie or show you catch him in, and of course an amazing stand up. His special was hilarious. Sounds like he's paid me to write this lol but I'm honestly just that much of a fan.

@@dylanking8294 I'm with you man, I love the little replays that he does in it, this was the first episode of Neal's podcast I've seen, a great introduction to it for sure and I'm about to watch more episodes, always loved Neal for his open vulnerability, honesty and his jokes too. Very refreshing! This is most serious I've ever seen Santino be on anything, and I'm all here for it, it's comforting to see people you think don't suffer from the issues they discussed, which myself and many others struggle with, and yet these people still get on that stage, in front of these podcast cameras and do their thing. I hope this podcast blows up the way it deserves, this is an extra dose of a medicine I didn't know I needed as much as I imagined. Excellent concept and work Neal!

Agreed! (about your sentiment in general; have not seen that movie) I think we've bastardized that word with the advent of social media, and this conversation breathed a bit of life back into the guts of it. Whitney Cummings asks EVERY guest on her podcast, "are we friends?" and I think that's self-serving and disingenuous. There are all kinds of people I like just fine but aren't friends with, per se. And like, that's okay.

Adult criteria for friendship: 1) You like each other 2) You trade contact information 3) You interact outside of the initial context under which you met A person who only meets 1 and 2 can be a contextual friend, but not a general all around friend. For example, you know someone at the gym, you two get along, have traded phone numbers and even call/text regularly BUT you only ever see each other at the gym; that's your gym friend, not your friend friend. You start doing other things besides the gym with your "gym" friend, now you are "friend" friends

I love this conversation because I tell people all the time Friendships in Adulthood are extremely valuable. Therapist here and I really stress that friendships when you are an adult are very important. Especially when you are married (because they can fall away but they help you stay grounded, sane, affirmed, and connected to yourself outside of your spouse/kids). And when you are single they can fill that void which brings you loneliness. "It takes a village" isn't just for raising kids. It's for being a human. We need all types of relationships in our lives. I'm really happy dudes are talking about friendships and the emotional toll it takes. It's human and more dudes need to verbalize that they need friends as much as women do. Great conversation.

The friendship stuff really made me think about things. I’ve struggled into my 30s with the fact that the guys I grew up with and spent so much time with have faded away. I feel like I have tried to make an effort to connect and reach out and hang out, but it just never lines up for whatever reason. And I sit here realizing I have very very few friends. There are guys who I see making an effort to connect with me too, but at some point why am I trying to force a connection when I clearly don’t mean as much to them as they did to me… I feel like there are a million excuses that get in the way but if you want to get together and spend time, it will happen if there is mutual love and respect. Very interesting.

There's something so lovely & genuine about listening to men discussing the importance of good, real friendship, & the importance of having it in their lives. I think it's a really backward, old-school notion that men have to be lone wolves, as they get older... life is really hard, but having real, true friends makes it so much better.

Love me some cheeto. I relate so hard to the social courtesy thing, even in my own house I'm always aware of being "in the way" whenever someone needs to walk by and it is so aggravating when others seem oblivious when I'm trying to move past. It's worse when family does it to me, makes me feel like I don't even exist to them but in public it's irritating as well. Neal saying that we humans are an ecosystem is spot on, be aware of your surroundings, say excuse me and consider the personal space of others around you. In grade school I thought i had a couple friends, but when I went to high school none of them really ever talked to me. When you first came back onto the scene after Chapelle, I'll admit I was enamored with your role in his show and as his friend. Then I watched a change in you that I couldn't understand. I don't think i was mature enough to get it. Now having learned about your experiences and me being a 40 year old man, myself, I completely connect with your wavelength as both a comedian and a friend/ host. I never tried my hand at official comedy, but I've always been adjacent. Something about your lane has awoken a spirit with me that I can't explain. Loving what you're doing. Keep yourself healthy and keep at it. I'd love to work with you, no matter what a pipe dream that is. Keep working those blocks, man. I'm gonna do the same.
