Between Cyborg-009 and Android Kikaider, the early 00s spoiled us with phenomenal adaptations of Ishinomori's classic heroes. I just wish we had gotten a third series done in this style. Skullman, Inazuman, maybe even Kamen Rider.

Why didn't they do this for like... ALL of these old sentai heroes? I got into sentai because of this show but no live action show has this level of Astro Boy / Megaman X shit going on!!! So I have two questions; anyone know any animes similar to Kikaider? Also is there any live action version of Kikaider that has THIS tone and not the goofy 70s cheese???

Why? Because if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you're calling the original Kikaida show "cheesy," then I'll have you know it's not any more so than other tokusatsu (not sentai, that term refers to a fighting squadron, task force, or battle corps, i.e. more than one fighter against the opposition, and tokusatsu heroes don't always fight as a team, as evidenced by the original Kikaida show) series of the time. For some people, the so-called "goofy 70s cheese" is what makes shows like that so entertaining to watch and should not be considered an imperfection. Quite the contrary. It gives off a certain charm that you just can't get from 21st century live-action or animated works. After all, this was a 1970's superhero show for kids done on a TV budget, so it's going to be relatively lighthearted with the occasional shock and have colorful, bizarre, and even experimental aesthetic and production design. It's nothing to complain about. If there's one thing I learned in my History of Children's Television class, it's that anything campy is good. And whatever "cheese" is present in the show is purely superficial. Like its peers of the time, it can be completely ridiculous without being self-aware and delivers trippy spectacles, thrilling stories, exciting action scenes, and a strong sense of justice. Additionally, like many other works by the late, great Shotaro Ishinomori, Kikaida balances white-knuckle action with the tragedy of being a hero, even in live-action form. If you say that "no live action show has this level of Astro Boy / Megaman X shit going on," you evidently have not seen a lot of tokusatsu, and I very much doubt the anime is anywhere near as enjoyable as the live-action version, not to mention optimistic. In fact, Megaman was inspired by various manga, anime, and tokusatsu shows, specifically Ninja Captor, which starred original Jiro/Kikaida actor Daisuke Ban, so I think that "the goofy 70s cheese" deserves a bit more respect, as I've already made abundantly clear. The live-action Kikaida even has Jiro fighting a different robot villain in every episode, just like Megaman would 15 years later, so Megaman would (or should) be revering Kikaida as his elder. Plus, as it happens, Ishinomori created Kikaida as a tribute to his mentor Osamu Tezuka, the creator of Astro Boy, so one could describe Kikaida as the hippie godson of Astro Boy. Furthermore, the 2014 film Kikaider Reboot has a darker tone, yet it still honors the 1972 show with the melody of Jiro's guitar from the show playing on the soundtrack, Daisuke Ban playing a supporting role, and a re-recording of the show's theme song, Go Go Kikaider, playing during the end credits while stills from the program are displayed alongside them. In other words, not even the works that Kikaida inspired disregard or disrespect the original and what made it so great, so you shouldn't either.

@@imfsresidentotaku9699 While I see what you're saying and respect the old medium, I know others agree with me. Mediums evolve, birth new mediums, which attract new audiences for different reasons. Plenty of people would flock to Toku heroes being reimagined as anime series. It is a major untapped market. Live action toku wouldn't have to be erased, but why is there not a stronger connection considering tokusatsu is pretty much live action anime? I just don't understand why it seems to inspire a Home Improvement style "Uuuuehhhhhh!?!???" every time someone suggests a coupling of the two mediums. For one I can tell you that kids like me who thought Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was way too corny would have been ALL OVER a Kamen Rider or Inazuman anime on TV in the 90s. It's not a diss on the old shows. But why is that all there is?
