The best thing about the keyboard cover is the detachable half that has the kick-stand whether you use the keyboard or not! Without that, this is no different from the $40 keyboard cases on Amazon... :(

I use it both ways, I need that track pad with the keyboard so I'll be sticking with the one I have from the tab s7+. Not sure why they didn't stick with the track pad and detachable version, it's more convenient

I usually use my tablet when I am sitting on the bed and I still use the keyboard. With the slim keyboard, the tablet seems to stand pretty steady. Did you have any issues with the cover that has the track pad while using it when you lie on the bed or a couch etc. I heard some people saying that is is kind of harder to use the one with trackpad in that orientation because it is not one piece and it is easier for keyboard part to detach.

That is one thing I should have spent a little more time talking about. You are right. When it is one piece it is a little bit sturdier. I wouldn't normally use it on a bed so I can't really comment much on that. When you use it on a recliner on your lab, I'm able to use the detachable versions pretty well. I don't have a ton of issues with it. But I will say that it's not quite as sturdy

The new trackpad pad is worth it. I went over to Best Buy and I played with the demo and it seems that there's new texture on the new trackpad and it seems to be more consistent with my finger. The problem was the old track pad was it was made of plastic. And it would also absorb oil and sometimes your finger would glide or not glide. I felt like I had to clean the track pad more often than I should. I'm not really hearing anyone talking about this. So far I haven't even heard from one. I am getting keyboard for free from the preorder But like I said in my experience it actually feels different and better. I have seen past reviews of the trackpad and some would claim it to be trash. In my experience i had to rewake the mouse every 5 seconds if you are using a external mouse. When using a external mouse. There has never been accurate scrolling. Since I use mine for school. I have used the trackpad and mouse for accurate scrolling. It is annoying but hopefully samsung will fix that issue. I guess you can scroll by using the touch screen for less annoyance.

I think you are referring to the S8 Ultra trackpad. If you watch the video the S8 and S8 Plus slim cases don't come with trackpads.. You have to buy the older cases to get that

it looks like for the base S8 they trimmed off your edge key's in order to try and keep the core keys as large and as spaced out as possible. Backspace, that weird \| key, tab, caps, shifts, the bottom and top row, space bar. The core 33 keys look about the right size.

I have the S7 with it's keyboard cover and like it quite a bit. However, I rarely use the keyboard. I just use the back as a great stand and SPEN keeper.

Thanks a lot for this video! Great info! I've just one question tho. How good is the magnetic power of the slim cover? Re: for the SLIM. Because I've heard some people telling that it easily comes off.

I don't think it easily comes off at all. Just my experience though. Seems to hold up pretty well. The magnetic kickstand on the book cover keyboard for the Tab S8 Ultra is a little different. Since the tablet is so heavy it can fall down a little more often

Somehow in Malaysia we get the S7 keyboard with mousepad with purchase of the S8 tablet in official Samsung stores. The S7 keyboard is actually packed inside the sealed box of S8. I just watched this video before going to the store and felt so lucky getting the S7 keyboard with my S8 purchase

Yeah I prefer it strongly. I like the flexibility it provides. The slim keyboard is a little sturdier on your lap buy that's about it

I got this keyboard for free when I purchased my first tab s7fe. I don't really mind the lack of trackpad but since my whole purpose of this tab is to draw the keypad literally is useless to me because my tab is in drawing mode and doesn't connect with the keyboard. I would've appreciated it if the keyboard actually had a Bluetooth connection.

Plenty of tempered glass screen protectors should work out there. amzn.to/3smuz9Z is one I've used. I use that with the case and I'm good to go.

With last years model that detached (I also have a Surface Book 3 15", so I didn't buy a keyboard for my Tab S7+) does it type while detached or does it have to be connected to get signal? I got the free keyboard with my S8+ and bought a few other style cases as the keyboard case was advertised on pics as detached. The keyboard case isn't protective at all & I'm not gonna take it in & out of a protective case to use the keyboard so was hoping to use it like a frankencase.

If you detach the keyboard from the detachable model you cannot type with the detached keyboard. It doesn't work with Bluetooth or anything like that. You do still get to keep the protective backing on the back, the kickstand part, but it doesn't wrap around the edges or protect the sides of the device. Hopefully this helps.

No. It won't work at all. The S7 keyboard will work with the S8, and vice versa, but the plus keyboard won't work with the s8

I recently get the S8 plus with slim keyboard for free. Is it worth paying for the keyboard with trackpad case?? Btw is the slim keyboard case unique for the S8 series? As I think that tab S7 & S6 didn't come with official "without trackpad" case??

The Slim keyboard case came out with the Tab S8 Series, though it is backwards compatible with older models. I will say that the slim keyboard is sturdier in your lap, something I didn't talk much about. It really depends on what you think and what you prefer. Do you want to detach? How often would you detach? Are you bothered by having to put it in a separate case when you detach (or have no case) or is that no big deal? It's really all up to you. Some people would prefer the sturdier slim keyboard for lap usage, but there will be many that want to have a trackpad and the option to go back and forth between tablet and laptop like usage. It also depends on what prices and deals you find, sometimes you can find these keyboards like new on amazon for pretty cheap if you look. Feel free to use my links if you do decide to buy, but it's really up to you, hopefully this helps a little bit!

Is the gift keyboard that comes with the tab s8+ the same as the cover... I mean can I detach the keyboard because I don't need the keyboard every time I use the device but I want the device to stay protected

Honestly it depends on where you are. From what I'm hearing different countries are getting different keyboards. And now that the preorder period is over, currently the US is getting no keyboard cover for free. But the US was getting the Slim keyboard cover for free. The one with no trackpad, the one that requires the keyboard to stay attached to keep the case on.

In the pre order process, on the Samsung website only, in the US (different countries are different), it would automatically add to your cart. If it didn't, it could be because it would be sold out. If you go through your orders it should be attached to that order, it's possible it was sold out. And you can contact Samsung and explain that you never received the keyboard. And that you pre ordered. If you pre ordered from another place like Best Buy I think you can contact them directly, I think they did the same thing, if it was another website they may have had a different promotion

Are you talking about the s8 slim cover or s7+ cover? I am upgrading from my s4 and also love the sturdy corner protection and flexibility to open it up in portrait mode folded back without the keyboard falling off. Can you please give me more info on your experience with this?

@AndroidDigest Sorry to ask you a question off topic, but you seem to have a lot of experience with these tablets. I've just bought an S8+ and set up different users. I discovered though that OneDrive synchronisation of the "guest user" won't literally appear in the setting menu of gallery (only admin user has the option), OneDrive keeps asking to synch but than it can't find anything. It's very strange. Anyway, if you experienced it and found a workaround I would love to know your opinion. Thanks a lot.

@@AndroidDigestthanks a lot, I had, meanwhile an answer from Samsung, guest users are simply not allow to synch the gallery to their ondrive. I simply use onedrive cause is integrated in my regular samsung device gallery app. But it is very limiting to allow only admin to use it. I 'd love to rework the images directly from Tab gallery.

The only keyboard that has a backlight is the one that is sold for the S8 ultra. Whether it's the Tab S8, S8 Plus, slim keyboard or not slim keyboard, none of them come with backlighting

Quick question, and probably a really dumb one, but I've been out of the mobile space for a while now. So back when I last wanted to connect my Android device to a monitor/tv a protocol called MHL had to be supported on in addition to your OTG cable. Am I right in assuming USB 3.2 natively just does all of the above and MHL is now a redundant/legacy protocol?

1st time Samsung or "Android" in general falls behind in innovative new "features" or "products". Their slim keyboard is like apples horrendous 1st keyboard for their iPads. Magic keyboard is actually really nice. Samsung needs to step it up, especially for tablets accessories for prices like the ultra/+

Yeah I prefer the detachable model from last year. I hate any non detachable model, but I do agree... If you stay attached the Magic Keyboard has this slim keyboard beat by a mile, it's like double the price but it's way way better

I guess this new s8 keyboard is more for portable use like on the lap, on plane table or for those who alrdy have good laptop specs. But s7 keyboard more for those who want as alternative to laptop due to trackpad thats placed more on table but s8 one more for lap/portable. Thats my analysis. What do you think?

i bought the keyboard for my s8 on the description with the trackpaad and its not connecting to my tablet, i dont want to return it so what can i do to fix this situation

I'm not sure what to tell you there. If you have the tab s8. The keyboard cover that worked for the tab S7 will definitely work with the tab S8. Now if you bought the wrong one, maybe one for the tab S8 Plus or the tab S8 Ultra. Or one from the tab s7 plus or the tab S7 Ultra. Those won't work at all. But if you for sure bought the Tab S7 keyboard case with the trackpad, And if you magnetize it to the bottom with the pins. And it clearly fits. But the keyboard just isn't working. All you can really do is disconnect it and connect it again. If it continues not to work it's probably defective. But I bought that keyboard several times for the tab S8 and it has worked great

Yes, any bluetooth keyboard works in dex. You may have to manually open dex in the menu, but yes, it will work.

You can use any Monitors with a usb-c port. I am currently using the Samsung M7 and it does this with one cable. The USB hub is built into the Monitors so you can connect a mouse and keyboard or flash drive.

Someone nerds to make a magic keyboard type case for this these tablets. There's a ton of clones of these on Amazon for the iPad. Idk why no one has thought to make one for these.

I don't think they can make something magnetizing to the bottom, they can only make a Bluetooth keyboard, they don't have the rights to use Samsungs tech I'm guessing. So making a Bluetooth keyboard is probably less appealing to them. Hard to stand out, plenty of people do it. So making an expensive case that's only Bluetooth could be risky. That's just my guess. I actually prefer a detachable keyboard because the magic keyboard needs to be added to a separate case every time you remove it from the keyboard. So I'd prefer a better detachable model. And one that doesn't cost $350. Something like the Surface Pros

@@AndroidDigest That's what I mean is a detachable Bluetooth keyboard. So more or less a Magic case that includes a detachable keyboard. I could care less if the keyboard attaches at the bottom lol. Bt keyboards work just fine. And some of the clones I've seen on Amazon are pretty cheap & according to users work just as good as the expensive pple one.

The detachable models can. But it's pretty pointless to do that anyway, because you can quickly just pop it off and back on. Bending it back could slightly wear it down over time. Maybe not to the point that it's noticable

I really liked the Samsung S7+ track pad KB cover on my S8+, until it just stopped working. All it does now is protect the screen. I'm really having a hard time justifying the cost ($230) to replace it. Really should have lasted longer than 18 months... 😞

That's definitely not typical. I'd recommend looking on the used market. You can find them in mint condition for just over $100 to $150. $100 is a little bit easier to deal with. Plus you could buy a squaretrade warranty on it through eBay and it would cover it

I feel bad for not mentioning that now. Yeah if you bought it within 12 months they would definitely replace it. If you end up having issues after this though, I would recommend the used market. With a square trade warranty. But I'm glad you got it taken care of through Samsung

What happens if you plug insert the tablet backwards in the wrong way, i.e. screen not facing the keyboard. I once had a windows tab (notion ink Cain) which someone accidentally inserted in backwards and from then on the keyboard stopped working.

Nothing will really happen at first. This keyboard does have magnetic pins and if you bend them the wrong way too often I'm sure you can damage them. But accidentally putting them the wrong way a time or two won't do much. I've misaligned the keyboard several times. Being one or two keyboard pins off and nothing happened

Never liked trackpads. The challenge for me is the fixed viewing angle which sometimes does not eliminate reflections...

WAAAY Late. But the S8 Plus Slim keyboard will fit the S7 Plus. It will NOT fit the S8. The S8 is a different size. The S8 will fit the S7, and vice versa. Sorry! This comment just popped up on my feed!

Yep. The Slim keyboard is a little more stable on your lap, I will say that, but I don't like that it doesn't have a trackpad and it isn't detachable. If you look on ebay or amazon you may be able to find a good deal on the detachable model, but you have to factor in price like you said. You will pay twice as much, it will be more portable than a separate bluetooth keyboard and mouse, but it won't be quite as good in other ways. So you can save money and get a keyboard with more travel, and a nice mouse. It depends on what you are looking for though.

@@themastersvoice8636 Yes, the only thing that has issues is, if your country has different keyboards than the regular qwerty style keyboard. and you of course only need one, if you are planing to write text on it. Like more than just a few messages and googling stuff here and there.

I haven't noticed any scratching on the screen from the keyboard. Either way I'd recommend buying a tempered glass for the screen, that will guarantee your screen is protected.

To my knowledge, no. None of these keyboards will work with Bluetooth. You can buy a bluetooth keyboard and use it with your tablet separately

at this point, I think I rather go for the S7+ than the S8+, even though S8+ is really nice with it's processor and the latency, I wanna that trackpad, like cmon! Spending more money on the case feels not worth it Btw one question, does every tablets come with book cover case?

The case from the S7 Plus still fits the S8 Plus. So you could always get that case and then still buy the S8 Plus.. And no. The book cover keyboards do not come with it. There was something at the launch of the tablet where they were giving it out as a pre-order bonus. But that's not happening right now. It's possible you will see it as a sale where they will give it away. But it will specify it pretty clearly if they do. Because it's not a normal thing for them to do

Feel free to check the links in the description. Also if they are sold out or if you can't find them, you can go to a place like eBay and look up tab S7 Plus keyboard. Make sure that you skip all the ones that say Slim. And look for one with a touchpad in the picture. The links in the description should show them or you should be able to find some on the used market

Samsung book cover sell is misleading, for tab S8+ the book covers keyboard has no backlight and same product name as a keyboard for S8 ultra has a backlight, I bout for my S8+ and it's an expensive keyboard with no backlight!!

I think you can turn the trackpad off, I think, can't remember, but there should be a way to do that if you won't use it! The Slim keyboard is a little sturdier on the lap, just not detachable, so just one thing to consider Hope you enjoy it! You could also try the Samsung protective cover (just recently reviewed it) that has a kickstand and you could get a bluetooth keyboard, just a few ideas if you can't stand the trackpad

No trackpad, FAIL. No S Pen cover, MORE FAIL. Only 1 angle to place the tablet, EVEN MORE FAIL. Not detachable keyboard, EVEN MORE FAIL on top of already a few FAILS. Overall verdict - FAIL FAIL FAIL.
