I think this tournament was the reason Federer's 2013 season was in shambles. He was aiming to get that No. 1 ranking back from Djokovic. Wawrinka nearly gave it back to Federer during their epic match in the 4th Round. He was clearly overpowered by Murray here and could not do anything.

I remember this well. Murray won OG and then his first major less than 6 months before. It felt different to before. Even though it was 3-2, it was only fed’s greatness that made the score look tight. In reality federer was fighting to stay in the match the whole time. Also Murray’s serve became a huge weapon in this period whereas it’s never been a strength of his. I fully expected him to beat djokovic in the final which sounds crazy to say these days.

This match shows that Murray really is an underrated player of this golden era thanks to the big 3. Also a majority of people forget that Djokovic prevailed against Murray in the 2012 AO semi which was a marathon 5 setter almost as brutal as the 2012 AO final between Djoker and Rafa. Your expectation that Murray was gonna beat Djokovic in the 2013 AO final back then makes a whole lot of sense because Murray had been actually playing so well against Djoker since the 2012 season started, especially beating him at the olympics and the US open final.

One of the best matches I ever watched live. Murray's backhand was murderous that day, not to mention the clean return winners off Federer's serve. Roger managed to somehow squeeze it into a 5th set, but Murray was too relentless for him throughout the whole match. Federer was under extreme pressure almost every rally, on a different day Murray would have won that in 3 sets. Sadly I think the 5 sets took a little too much out of Andy for the final.

It was well done for Fed to even get to the semifinals in 2013 here. He was in poor physical shape (which was developing since Wimbledon 2012 and even more so after US Open 2012) and consequently poor form. Tsonga probably should've finished him off in the quarter-finals but missed his opportunities which Fed took due to experience. Then Fed had to fight hard to give himself a chance in the semis against a fresh in-form Murray (who had a favourable draw and didn't drop a set coming into the semis), but not to be. Great effort though, definitely should've lost in 4 sets but got lucky and extended into a fifth but by then he was cooked. And I can't help but think that exertion of effort with his back problems affected the remainder of 2013.

Quite funny to see some dirty tactics used by the Big 3 to throw their opponents away. Shouting at the net to put pressure 2 points away from the match here in the 4th set, Djoko eternal bouncing to tire the opponent or his infamous toilet breaks, Nadal convoking a youngster at the net to tell him to shout less (coming from him, really?!) or taking sooooo long before serving... Good games but not so classy and clean behaviors at time...
