I think the Mutombo thing is a coincidence. I mean, one in four odds are not exactly a long shot. I can definitely see an organization emailing a former player a message to tweet out if they win.

1/4 is pretty bad odds pretty good odds for a first pick admittedly but bad odds. A 25% chance is not the same thing as a guarantee surprisingly enough.

2009 was a sketchy af lottery that always goes untalked about. Sacramento drops to 4th (the lowest possible spot for the team with the highest odds) while the Clippers won it right after their LA counterpart Lakers won the title so both the teams could be good. Esp since Blake Griffin was the consensus number 1 pick

In the end did it really matter though? Sacramento would have ruined whoever they drafted anyway and Blake was injured in his rookie season and proceeded to be injury prone and unreliable for his entire career

The most likely thing is that they already know the results a few days beforehand, the "lottery show" is just that, a show. They draw in more fans that way, instead of just releasing a list of the order.

That’s correct! The teams know about the results when the show starts. We don’t! Plus, when the lottery show is over, they show the lottery on the NBA KZfaq channel.

It’s not. The head coaches are in the room with the commissioner and they find out who gets the number one pick then number two then so on.. the live show for us is in opposite order. Did you ever see the Alvin Gentry’s reaction to winning the #1 pick in 2019?

The only thing I can say about that is Curry put more work in at the NBA level than Lonzo. If you watched Lonzo at UCLA on a game by game basis he would be cold blooded and drain unreal deep 3's for no reason. You have to earn that respect to even try that on the NBA level. Curry did that, and Lonzo didnt.

Why didn't you throw in LeBron's draft day circumstances? I'm always skeptical of the hometown hero pick, and Bron was no different, especially considering the implications of the draft day and the particulars of that pick. The league had every reason to benefit from Bron staying in OH.

Why? LeBron was going to be a big deal wherever he played. Cleveland is a medium sized market at best so why rig it? For the hometown story? So what. LeBron going to New York or LA or Chicago would have better for the NBA.

@@analcommando1124 When NY was in the lottery every year, they were still ranked in the top 3 most valuable sports teams. Why? Cause it's the Mecca of basketball AKA a big market team. The NBA needs to make sure small market teams are doing well, as big market teams will always be fine.

And the Pels getting the 1st in the same season, while these two teams tried since February to make a trade with AD, was really suspicious. The Lakers getting another peace to add it to a potential trade, and the Pels except the possible 4th pick in this trade (which they got eventually), getting the 1st pick to get Zion (who went well deserved 1st, no questions need to be asked), a once in a generation talent, to lead them in their new era. Sus.

2019's draft Pelicans wouldn't trade AD to the Lakers(which the NBA wanted SO BADLY) without Zion so the league just gave them Zion and I can assume the 4th pick was given to the Lakers instead of the 1 pick so it wouldn't look too suspicious

I like how you had so much footage of David Stern. Most of these controversial drafts happened under his watch. I dont know if those drafts were rigged but Stern was a very dodgy character.

He also hated the spurs or any small market team getting in the way of big market teams. Anytime they played a big market team the refs were horrendously against Spurs. The first big market team I've ever seen Spurs play without refs helping the other team big time, was 2014 championship when spurs beat heat 4-1. Funny enough 2014 was the first playoffs stern was gone.

Maybe I’m looking too much into this but another “sketchy” thing I have noticed is small market teams who jump in the lottery because they can “potentially” lose the following year’s pick to another team. For example… The Kings jumped to 2 in 2018 and lost their pick in 2019 The Grizzlies jumped to 2 in 2019 and lost their pick in 2020 The Timberwolves got the 1st pick in 2020 and lost their pick in 2021

Teams already know their lottery draft and where they will end before the date of the draft, because they need to know if that player will suit there team or not. Also they will have to work out any trades etc to suit the team.

The reason why Detroit Pistons got the #1 picked in this year's lottery are: 1) Ben Wallace would be inducted to the Naismith HOF later this year and 2) It's the 40th anniversary of their team to be picked at #1 on the NBA Draft (but that year it wasn't a lottery scheme to pick on the draft) and at that time, they'd picked Isiah Thomas.

@@wazzup233 dawg, I dont wanna here it, the pistons have sucked for 15 years and we kept getting the 9th pick in the draft. The pistons waited long enough, bout time we got a top pick. First since Bob Lanier in 1970. BTW, Isiah was the second pick in the draft. Mark Aguirre (who actually was on both Bad Boys pistons teams that won the titles) was picked first.

The Draft is definitely rigged by the league and all teams know it. Lebron “the next goat” drafted by his hometown team..? Imagine he was drafted by The Orlando Magic or 76ers…it just wouldn’t have been the same. Also, NOP conveniently getting Zion when AD leaves? I’m sure there are more examples of this.

Yeah, the NBA had made it blatantly rigged with Cavs, who won 3 lotteries in 4 years. So they tried to be subtle. Even then they fixed the 2019 draft so obviously.

As a Pistons fan, we have not blatantly tanked at all. The amount of times we have finished 8th-10th in the east over the last 13 years is stupid. Idk if u were talking about the pistons, but I feel like we have at least been respectable. We have at least tried to do our best 😂.

#1 The Timberwolves have only moved up one time in the lottery in their entire franchise. And that "one time" is still debatable since they had the same chances of landing the #1 over all pick as 2 other teams.

The Kevin Love to the Cavs trade for Wiggins is rigged af. Another example for this is the Pelicans getting the number 1 pick. The league gave the Pelicans the 1st pick so they can move on from Anthony Davis. Resulting from the team trading AD to a bigger market with another superstar in LeBron

Lakers had the second pick like 3 years in a row. Suns got the first pick when Ayton (hometown hero) was the consensus (it was a 50-50 between him and Luka at the time) first pick, especially when the organization is Phoenix

I think Magic did not know that the pick would be top three, but it was their plan to get a top 3 pick no matter what if that was through the draft or through a trade.

I think it was rigged for us too, pistons were in the best position of all the tank teams, new arena, moved downtown, sleeping giant.

I definitely think that the late 80’s and early 90’s drafts were rigged for sure. Popularity in the NBA started to take off around that time to new heights, so putting players in the right place was important for the league. Nowadays I don’t think they are as rigged. But the Cavs luck is super suspicious

@@kenrickeasonthat Lonzo pick was rigged, though. No way they were letting the Lakers lose that pick. The Cavs #1 and subsequent trade for Love also was rigged. They’re probably all rigged, like people watching reality TV thinking it’s all real and not tinkered with.

I used to be a huge NBA fan, but drifted away from it for some years now. I love basketball and I'd still watch some highlights from time to time. But, I've always known that the NBA is a business and a lot of sketchiness goes on to make it more marketable. Questionable games and lotteries doesn't surprise me anymore.

They only rig it when it's big names like LeBron to home state Ohio. Magic to Lakers, bird to Celtics, etc

Bird wasn't a lottery pick, the league changed a bunch of rules so Boston could draft him without needing him to declare for said draft, a full year before he was due to graduate. Nobody else was permitted to draft Bird either, just Boston.

I really feel like these leagues already know who’s drafting where, who’s drafting who. At the end of the day it’s a business, they’re not just gonna let these GM’s run these teams into the ground and ruin the overall product. I feel the order of the draft is based upon the product the team put out in the previous season cuz if not then all teams would just tank at the end of the day to accumulate more talent

Speaking of the Lakers, one I always found sketchy was them moving up to #4 in the draft lottery in 2019, thus giving them the pick needed to add to the package for the Anthony Davis trade. Of course it got us a championship so I’m ok with it 😛
