With the bike's loom modified & ignition relay fitted in the last video we can now get around to installing the new Dyna (high power) ignition coils. This video covers the step by step process & includes a few helpful mods/tips that will maximise the benefits of fitting these expensive upgrade coils...
In the next video in this Series we will be then able to make up new ignition HT leads using the kit I ordered from the UK.

A good crimp is better than any solder connection, but a good solder joint is better than a bad crimp and is certainly the practical reality vs NASA / MIL SPEC perfection when you are not sending men to the moon. It was good to see you take in mechanical and environmental factors into account which I have never have thought of, like making sure a disconnected connection will be sheathed if coming from the battery positive so as not to short to the frame. Also similar thinking about rain dripping down wires. I look forward to see this CB750 run!

"Do it once, and do it right". I've always crimped and then soldered as well, partly because it's difficult to get consistently good crimps but mainly because I like the belt and braces approach. My brother says do one or the other because solder wicks down the cable and cause vibration fractures at the point where it stops, but then the use of a decent length of shrink wrap doubles as strain relief and mitigates this (according to me!) Also like the sensitive and sensible resto-mod approach like the use of M6 cap screws because they just work better with the new parts. And on the JIS thing, I have one screwdriver which I found behind the back seat of a VW beetle I bought in 1989 which just happens to fit JIS better than any other screwdriver I've ever owned. I love that screwdriver ...

I solder terminals as well, but only use a little bit, not enough to move down the wire significantly. And only keep it hot for a short while.

Great bike. Glad to see it coming back even better. I had a 69 K-1 in the early '70s and loved it. Accept when I threw a chain threw the cases.

I hate wiring , but enjoyed watching you do it Andy. My mega perfectionism is truly satisfied. I also picked up a great tip with putting the insulated female connector on the flow side .. Makes perfect sense but I've never thought of it myself . So thank you Andy always a pleasure to learn new tricks . Peace and love brother 👍🏻☮❤

Andy, I really enjoy watching you (from Oklahoma USA). I appreciate the attention to detail. A lot of times it matters. And the longer the video the better for me. Means I don't have to find something else to watch. Have you measured the resistance through the relay to see if it's better than what you had before? I like the idea though, bypassing all the connections. You should look at all the headlight has to go through (on a K6). Was thinking of switching with a MOSFET. Keep it up Andy.

Hey Andy....hope you had a good Christmas and Happy new year! One thing that I have to say and agree with you on is to use proper connectors, proper soldering, and heat shrink tubing along with the Loom tape or Loom plastic covering. It makes a huge difference in your electrical connections.

Was there a polarity to the coil wires? Such as, black/white wires positive and blue/yellow wires negative. Or, does it matter.

here is one setting that was left out of all the installs on You tube. That is the space between the magnet on the rotor and the 'pickups' on the modules. If set too far out the corresponding cylinders will misfire. I set mine but forgot what the setting was, maybe forty two thousands?? can you confirm the range??

Thanks for the CB750 videos. I feel like I've seen every CB750 on the internet, so it's always nice to come across new ones. : ) The Hackaweek guy installed the 3ohm Dyna coils on his 750 and used a ballast resistor because the original coils are 5ohm rather than 3ohm. How have the 3ohm coils worked for you? I used the 5ohm black Dyna coils on my 750. So far they've worked great. Interesting to ditch the old connectors and go straight to the coil with the loom wires. When I did mine, I recreated how it was done on the original coils, using short wires (proper colors of course) with bullet connectors that could be plugged into the original wiring harness connectors. (For a beginner like me it was nice to be able to sit at my kitchen table with the coils and get all the wires and connectors hooked up nicely before stepping into the garage to put them on the bike.) If I ever need to remove the coils I just unplug the connecters and unmount them...although I probably won't ever have to remove the coils.

My original coils have an earth wire but my replacement ones (just like the stock model) don't have an earth wire. Do I need to install an earth wire?

Its critical that the coils are well earthed so yes, I'd connect the earth wire from your loom to the metal part of the coils. Cheers Andy

Hey I did install mine and I have a ? The coil get warm. Why is that

They can get hot....due to current flow - this creates heat, remember there are windings inside... Cheers Andy

Just tried installing these on my 81 susuki gs850, do you know how to get the firering order right? I know each coil is separated 1-4 and 2-3, is there a way to figure out the right numbers or does it matter?

It doesn't matter as it's a wasted spark system so for example when the coil feeding cylinders 1 & 4 fires you should get a spark at both of those spark plugs. They must both be grounded at the same time for this to happen though.. Hope this helps. Cheers Andy

You should tape the side loom to the main loom, in a continuos piece of tape. Don't cut it, as You did. Also, when You connect two wires onto one - use double connectors. One end crimps to the feed wire, and the other end to the two consumers - the coils, in separate female connections. The main feed to the coils, should therefore have a splitter connetcor, allowing You to have two short leads from the coils that go into one female connector each. What You did to that end of the main feed, was quite unprofessional.
