Hello, PNSO continues to impress me with each release. Smaller figures do make it nice for diorama scenery.

I gladly welcome a modest sized spinosaurus. Pairs well with the SAFARI Ltd figure and does not occupy too much display space. If it were as large as the most recent entries it would price itself out of the range of many collectors. Also, I appreciate the intricate sculpting details all the more when the figure is smaller. Splendid review so late in the year, pleased you’re not slowing down. Happy Xmas.

Very nice sculpt-EXCEPT for the position of the head and neck. Why such a sharp curve? It’s only possible to shelf-display facing to the left-and even then the head will not be in profile. It’s a nit-pick but I wish figure manufacturers would consider how a piece will appear as a display piece.

Where does everyone get the information that this is a 1:35 scale? The pamphlet included with the figure says Essien is 15 meters long, setting this figure at about 1:60 scale.
@spinoguy35553 жыл бұрын
It's 1:35 scale if you are basing it off the 10.93 m. Sub-Adult specimen that Ibrahim dugged up. So I guess it passes in that department, but still not as cool as having a New BIG Adult Spinosaurus. I mean if this figure was just 15-20% bigger, it would be better in terms of value for that $40 price tag.
@jtabber3 жыл бұрын
@@spinoguy3555 as per the pamphlet that ships with the model, Essien is a 15 meter animal. This is according to the manufacturer, PNSO. This model does not appear to be based on a particular specimen. So I'm wondering where people are getting the 1:35 scale from, unless they are just making assumptions based on the smaller size of the model.

Maybe buy directly from China and ship it internationally as this one cost £16.85 on taobao. PNSO offers free shipping in mainland china for almost all products and is releasing one new model each week till Feb, so might as well wait for 10% off before spring festival and grab a bunch of them. iirc I have seen comment from buyer in the US who paid around $20 to ship 4 or 5 big (over 30cm long) models.

I don't think that 1/35 scale is accurate. If this figure were posed completely straightened out it would come to roughly 12 inches, if that much, meaning that at 1/40 scale the actual animal it's based upon would be 40 feet. Of course we know that Spinosaurus reached at least 50 feet in length (maybe 5-10 feet more depending on the specimens and the various size estimates out there), so a 1/50 scale designation would be far more accurate, in my humble opinion. It's similar to their Mamenchisaurus, which was likewise listed at 1/35 or 1/40, but at roughly 18 inches long that would place the actual animal at around 60 feet...which indeed was true of some of the very smallest of the group, but far below the average 80-90 feet and roughly half of the length of the very biggest specimens such as M. Sinocardum. I sent an e-mail inquiry to a major manufacturer regarding these sorts of scale discrepancies. The representative's refreshingly honest (if only half-joking) answer: "We 'lie'". Most manufacturers have (unfortunately) largely abandoned uniform scales for their model lines for a variety of reasons, but most of them are tied to manufacturing cost and price point. In many cases scales get assigned to models that simply aren't accurate just to make them conform to that of the rest of their lines. Financial factors are also a huge part of why we're seeing so few sauropod species represented anymore (and if they are, at scales ranging between 1/50 or even 1/100). I'll admit that scale discrepancies have wreaked havoc in recent years on my ability to properly organize my collection (at least the way I prefer to, where I can see at a glance how two species compared in overall length and girth). I still love the hobby and the detail on the miniatures is better on average than it's ever been (especially with regard to PNSO), but it's a bit of a bummer to see scales all over the map, and especially when they're misrepresented on the packaging or website listings to boot.
