If you are spending hours painting landscapes in watercolor, you need an intermission! Try this simple, one layer landscape scene that focuses on the beauty of sedimentary watercolor paint on textured paper.
In this lesson you'll learn how to choose a limited palette of colors for watercolor painting, and how to use color temperature to create distance. I'll also demonstrate how edges and contrast influence composition, and when and where to make a big, dramatic, risky brush stroke!
The supplies used in this video helped me get bright colors, beautiful flow and expressive brush marks:
(Comprehensive BlickU list: bit.ly/2mGI2aZ - affiliate link)
Paint: QoR Watercolor Paint: Naples Yellow, Cobalt Turquoise, Cobalt Green, Quinacridone Violet, Raw Sienna and Burnt Sienna
Brushes:

Scroggy's Loose Goose Dagger Striper #1 from Cheap Joe's Art Stuff bit.ly/2PM7qWw

Your "fearless" approach really shows when you paint a delicate whippy line and then turn your brush sideways and smear it down sideways to erase it when you change your mind. Inspiring! :)

That tip about selecting different proportions of colour groupings was brilliant. The demonstration with colour squares just instantly communicated what you meant.

First time viewing this peaceful, serene painting. Then you make it come alive. I'm trying to get back into watercolor and I think you're the one to follow. Very enlightening. Opened my eyes to a lot of different areas to follow. With this 1 watercolor I learned so much. Thank you and on to the next one. Judy

I have a large supply of student grade paper, which I started buying when it was recommended by other teaching videos. After trying 100% cotton paper I see the difference easily so I am buying this now. However, it is a slow process do you budgets and my learning skills don't warrant that cost. Thank you so much for your lessons and providing the Facebook page for us all to share our work so we can get the help of others.

Angela, watching you paint this scene was very helpful. I struggle with the urge to try and paint each detail too soon, and too dark to start out, so it was good to see that light to dark transition in action. I will definitely be watching again (and again!) Thank you.

Angela, this is another great landscape! I thought the photo was somewhat lonely, but your painting is very calm and peaceful. Really liked your color selection. I look forward to trying this. I also really like the Indigo sketchbook. It is very hard to find a 100% cotton sketchbook or journal so I will definitely get one of these. Thanks again for sharing your talent and experience. Your encouragement is priceless.

Hi Angela, I'm trying to paint a wintery Colorado mountain scene that is only in various shades of blues with lots of blowing snow. This video was helpful showing how to create depth and your comment that foreground landscape is warmer and background is cooler was very helpful. In a future video I would love to learn how you select the paint colors that aren't necessarily representational of the reference photo, such as this demo. I struggle with not having the skills or vision to select colors that go together yet are different than my reference photo. Thanks so much for this.

My desire to try is growing. You give enough guidance to boost my confidence to try!!! Do you have a link to any video on your brushes. I noticed you like the rigger a lot! I’m curious about that.

Hi Angela, for a future video could you demo value jumps in the focal point? For example, show two landscapes with light and mid values ranging between 1-5 or 1-6 then make a focal point that jumps up in value to a 7 or 10. ....just wanting to know your thoughts about overdoing the center of interest . the.

I'd say artistic license and Angela's profound love of color. Who says mountains have to be boring brown? She often times sees "inside" the hill to a color gifted to her exclusively at that moment.
