700 bucks on a birthday party tells me they have a LOT of disposable income. None of these mothers are relatable. Invite kids over, have popcorn and a movie, throw in grab bags for kids who show up, and your kid has fun. It's the kid's birthday, not theirs.

My collegue told me (we get paid the same she does less work) that she spent 3k on her daughters first bday party. Middle class people or just barely surviving people in this economy are going broke tryna keep up appearances. She also has an instagram with posed photos of her kid. :) so that tells me all i need to know.

@@stalinbeballinmy first child’s first birthday party was about this much. The venue rental alone was over $1200. HOWEVER, that’s not at all relatable. She’s fortunate her grandparents have money to throw huge parties like that. It’s a ridiculous cost for a child’s party, especially at a younger age because they won’t remember anything.

7:34 THIS! Being bored is literally SO necessary for child development. I work with child psychologists and they’re always talking about the dangers of not letting your kid get bored. We need to get bored, encounter difficulties, etc in order to teach our brains how to solve those situations. I’m bored? Ok. What can I do about it? A stick? Perfect, let’s pretend it’s a sword. I worry about the future of iPad kids who literally have 0 skills when it comes to problem solving, being creative, handling frustration…

There is a video that discusses this perfectly from the woman she actually mentions in this video. Ashley Embers. It is a really important eye opening video that these ipad parents NEED to watch and LISTEN to. They are just hurting their children but they are too into themselves and care way too much about online clout to actually care about the development of their own children. It is really sad.

It makes it hard when you go to a group playdate or you have a kid over to play with your child and they don't really know how to just play. My son, fortunately, has a great attention span and it's really imaginative so I don't really have to worry about him being bored. He also knows I can't stand it when kids say they're bored lol so he doesn't try it. But seriously playdates can be pretty tough because a lot of kids haven't flexed their imagination muscles for a while and they kind of seem to want to be entertained.

@@leilanyx_I totally agree but also remember a “sugar high” has actually been disproven and there isn’t such a thing. It’s associated more as the child becoming hyperactive as they’re allowed to eat a treat snack and it’s usually accompanied by a fun experience or an activity with their friends which increases their dopamine and makes them overall more excited. A sugar high is not possible and has been scientifically disproven. The only type of “sugar high” to exist is for Type 1 diabetics who have had too much sugar and no insulin. It’s not possible to get a “high” off of something that isn’t a drug. Which is why you can have a caffeine high.

I’m just shy of 31 now, but growing up my mother put a lot of effort into my parties, however, her effort had nothing to do with money spent, aesthetics/appearance, or doing things “big” for show. Instead her effort was focused solely around MY enjoyment, and mine alone. I got to pick out the theme of my party each year, and she would always make my cake how ever I wanted, as well as come up with fun games/activities to fit that theme for us kids to play (and of course, this was the 90s, so there was no Pinterest, meaning she came up with everything 100% herself). My parents were very frugal so everything was done on a budget, but she’d go to great lengths to stretch that money as far as she could. My parties almost always took place in my small childhood home as well. I still have very fond and vivid memories of all of my parties. I remember the themes, the cakes she made, the games she came up with, and the party favors we made together each year. But one thing I don’t remember is how many friends came to my parties. Some years I can recall our small house being fuller than other years, but if you asked me how many kids were there each year, I couldn’t give you an answer. I didn’t care about that. I just had fun, and that alone was what brought my mother happiness and made all her effort worth it to her. It’s sad what some parents have turned children’s parties into these days. It’s no longer about the children, it’s about showing off and outdoing other mothers. It’s disgusting for any parent to do what this so-called “mother” did to her daughter, and even more disgusting that she is incapable of recognizing just how wrong she was in her actions. Her poor daughter deserves so much better. Makes me so sad for her, having to grow up with such a selfish parent. 😔💔

Social media is wild. Every momfluencer is absolutely trying to one-up each other in various ways. "You don't love your kids if you don't do it the way I do" behavior is absolutely detrimental to mental/emotional health for anyone. If it's not "perfect", then it's not postable/worthy/successful. The stitched TikTok around the 12 minute marked absolutely nailed it: They're not doing it for the kids, they're doing it for themselves. It's all rooted in the insecurity they have, that only doubles/triples down the more they post, the more they spend on various platforms, the more they look for responses... only to look foolish when they create a response just to create a response. Parents out there: If you're doing the best you can to provide for your children's health and happiness, you are doing just fine. Please remember you will make mistakes, and it's okay to do that so long as you learn from them and communicate with your children that you've learned. You're doing just fine. Side note: the "croissant cereal" in the clip is a parody account based on various trad-wives + extravagant momfluencers, and the parody is so good it tricks people into thinking she's actually doing it. Very fun account!

i always feel weird when i go to a kids birthday and its 90% adults ... the kids just want to play with each other, they don't care if the parent of their neighbour friend is there 😪😪

i literally used to invite 10 kids to my party every year and i was lucky if 3 showed up. there was one year where no one showed up and because i was so upset i was sobbing in my bed my dad gave me a hug and instead of having a party we went to the movies and had a pizza night. my parties were never canceled if only a couple kids came bc my parties were mostly for family to come over bc i didn't have a lot of friends. it was fine i still enjoyed everything

Whoahhhhhh. I cannot imagine canceling my child's party. My daughter had her party last year and it was just burgers on the grill and one kid showed up 😅. I will say I'm guilty of playing with her a lot. But she's an only child and I always feel bad because she doesn't have other kids to make a game with. I'm going to go checkout that video.

Most of my birthday parties growing up was a handful of friends. I don’t remember before school aged, but i remember my 6th birthday party. My mom took myself and my two best friends bowling. I loved it! I didn’t need a million people there, I just needed my favorite people.

I wonder if she considered that the reason that the other kids and adults weren't going to go to the party might have been just because they don't like HER. I'm thinking she wouldn't have thought that was a possibility...

I had a big party for my daughter's 6th birthday, because she wanted to invite the whole class. We had about 20 kids there. My daughter didn't care about most of them, and the kids were only there because they wanted to play at the play centre. I've let her choose what she wanted since then, and she chooses her two best friends to come and no one else because it's more fun for her.

I am 39 years old. I’ve been to many childhood parties. 9/10 there were games like Pin the Tail on the Donkey. There was one game that we had to shovel cotton balls from one container into a container with a smaller opening, or the relay races with an egg on a spoon, or Red Rover, but the activities were always structured in a way that we got to do like three games, have food, have cake, and watch gifts being opened. My 11 year old has had a couple themed parties but nothing of extravagance and I always keep what I can for next time or to sell.

i work birthday parties, and one i worked cost the parents close to $9,000 + venue hire. The little birthday girl was 7, and all her and her 2 closest friends did was play with the helium balloons and dance to the music. they simply don't care. its a show for the parents, i swear.

I think part of the problem is that parents are always so toxic with other parents. They always compare their kids with other kids, they compare their parenting with their friend's parenting, and son on, so on. That's why they end up wasting that much money on stuff kids don't even need, they just want to impress the adults, without caring about how comfortable or happy are the children with any of this. But yeah, in this case, being so self-centered makes the insecurities waaaay more obvious

I work in children’s entertainment so I attend A LOT of kids birthday parties. The amount of absolute BANGERS I see thrown for 1 year olds is insane. The ballroom, the extravagant decorations, the entertainment, bouncy houses, soft play, themed snacks, huge cake, photo ops all over. It’s so insane to me. Which is GREAT if they can afford that and that’s something that makes them all happy, but I can see where it would make maybe a mom attending that party feel a little bad if she’s unable to provide the same for her child. Often times I’ll see other moms feel bad because their child wants a party as big as another child’s party they attended, but the mom isn’t able to give them that and THAT breaks my heart.

I remember that when I was in Kindergarten turning 6 that my mom canceled my birthday party because I got in trouble and I was absolutely devastated. I can’t imagine how I would have felt if it wasn’t a punishment, but my mother’s own insecurities that cause her to do that. At least I could understand that my actions caused it, that poor little girl.

At 3-4 years old, kids aren’t the ones choosing to go to the party. It’s the parents. Half her invitees declined to go to the party because they didn’t wanna be around the mom. So she’s kind of right, it really is all about her and it would break HER heart

Lol my 8 year old daughter had her party at the local bowling and arcade here….there was 12 kids there including herself and her sister and two other adults and two older siblings…..the party room looked pretty empty as it was quite large, but literally none of the kids cared! They bowled, played some games, at yummy food and cake and got to spend time together! Kids really don’t need, or even expect these big extravagant parties! The party is for CHILDREN, not the adults…some cute paper plates, a cute cake and being able to be silly together is all they need!

You know what my birthday party was ? My grandma (who raised me since birth) would buy a $5 coconut cake from price chopper every yr say happy birthday and her and i would enjoy a piece before i opened my 1 present...She didn't even start doing that until i was 7 yrs old, other than that i didn't have a bday celebration from 1-6. It was her and i and we were broke but now that i am 27, she still brings a $5 pepperidge farm coconut cake on my bday and we have a slice. I wouldn't want it any other way. These "momfluencers" are not realistic. Smh

I stick to the rule of amount of guests correlates to the age of the child (turning 4, invite 4 children). Small parties are so sweet when they are young❤ the child needs a cape, crown, cake and a good friend or 2 . Balloons that they can actually play with and aren't tied to an arch, streamers in their favorite color and kazoos or noise makers and you will have a smashing party! I also highly recommend baking your child's cake, it doesn't have to be fancy, they will love it!

For my daughters 5th birthday, i rented the local skating rink. I invited her whole kindergarten class, our family, and our friends with children. At that time there was one 1 friend with a child.None of her classmates came. That did make me a little sad for her, but I wasn't going to cancel the whole party. She never even noticed her school friends didnt come. She had an incredible time with her cousins and our friends kid. It was a wonderful party. The adults even had a blast and skated too. It doesnt matter how many people are there. All that matters is spending that time with your loved ones that showed up for you.

The mom of the party feels so terribly about herself. She just keeps putting herself down when the other mumma never said anything like ALL of the things she claimed. Her nastiness is totally unwarranted, but you can tell she doesn’t feel good about herself as a parent or person and is one of those people that is so emotionally immature they have to put others down to try and make themselves feel better.
