Angelina Jordan Astar is a Norwegian born child prodigy in music. Angelina was first recorded on tape, singing a Whitney Houston song at 1 1/2 years old. She began teaching herself to sing at 2 years old. Her first studio recording was made at 6, with her singing "I Who Have Nothing." Angelina's primary focus has been on the great jazz masters, such as Screamin Jay Hawkins's 1956 classic, "I Put a Spell on You," sung in Hawkins own style. At 7, her parents relented; allowing her to audition on Norway's Got Talent. She was the last to audition, and no one was prepared for her. A diminutive 7 year old, mussy haired, barefooted, and teeth still growing in, stepped onto the stage of NGT. Her first performance was "Gloomy Sunday," Sung in the style of Billie Holiday. She went on to win shortly after turning 8. Her parents insisted that she should enjoy as normal a childhood as possible, which has been the reason she's down under the radar. Nonetheless, Angelina has performed around the world and performed for Heads of State and many others, such as Quincy Jones, Alan Walker, and Noah Jones. She's performed over 180 covers and has 5 originals, all by the age of 15. Angelina will be turning 17 in January 2023. She now lives in LA. Deciding on not signing a contract through America's Got Talent The Champions in 2020, she was prevented from being able to advance to the top 10 level. Her audition for AGT-TC was her own arrangement of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." Her audition earned a golden buzzer, as well as a congratulatory tweet from Queen. Queen subsequently gave Angelina the rights to her version of their song. Angelina also turned down a contract with Disney. She did, however, sign with Republic Records at 14. Republic gave her complete artistic control and control over the release dates. As she graduates high school in 2023, we are expecting an album and possible live performance in the US. - The Barefoot Princess - Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz", amongst many other names. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at age 6, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina says that she really loved her shoes, as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them. But she saw the other little girl’s need for them, which outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them. Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle, but the ruins of a building next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world, "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true you, have to remember the poor children without shoes; and I will pray for you Angelina.” Later that day 6 y/o Angelina wrote in her diary, "The world is very strange. Right then and there, I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” From that point on, Angelina takes off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world, who are orphaned, hungry, or in want of even basic clothing. In 2015, at the age of 9, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter, as everyone continued to ask why she sang barefoot. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, created the artwork for the book. So at 9, Angelina Jordan became the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina has performed alongside many other artists, raising attention and helping to raise over 21 million euros and millions of dollars for children in need.

When she visited Iran, her grandmothers country of origin, she saw a young girl barefoot begging at the side of the road. Angelina gave the girl her shoes and decided to always perform without shoes. Along with her grandmother, who is a known artist, they wrote and published a book about the incident. It made Angelina the youngest person in Norway to publish a book. The proceedes go to her charity, so far she has collected, along with others, over 21 million Euro's.

Great first reaction! Oh boy, you are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Her early influences are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. She entered and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, " Wow, what a rendition!" Not only that, but she received the copyrights for her version of this song from Queen, which makes it hers now. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity. Now 16 years old, living in Los Angeles, and is signed with Republic Records, whose clients include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake to name a few. Her family and Republic Records have agreed not to heavily promote her just yet so she can live as normal of a life as possible and finish her schooling. She is working on a new album of original music which will be coming out next year. She made money by weighing people. After speaking with her for a few minutes, Angelina noticed the scars on the girl's feet and asked the girl what her dream is. The girl said she wanted to be a doctor but she couldn't because she had to make money for her family. Congrats, you just discovered the best female vocalist on the planet... - At this point this may seem a bit exaggerated to you, just wait until you saw 10 or 20 more of her recordings, then you may begin to understand why so many people maintain that claim... song choices? Basically everything she ever did, she's dripping golden honey into your ears whenever she opens her mouth, but as you need to start somewhere: Bohemian Rhapsody & Yellow Brick Road, Feeling Good, her four performances from NGT, My Funny Valentine '22, Suspicious Minds... Her covers are world class and yet sung with her special interpretation. Many are better than the originals in my opinion which is incredible because she covers the best singers in the world from Whitney Houston to Etta James to Adele and more. As impressive as this cover of Screaming Jay Hawkins was, Angelina is a much better artist now at 16. She also has several originals which are fantastic. To get to know her more I'd recommend her live version of Summertime, I'm Still Holding Out for You (she was around 10 for those) her covers of Stay by Rhianna and A Million Years Ago by Adele when she was 12. Of course her version of Bohemian Rhapsody from AGT when she was 13. Seriously you could pick anything she does at random and be amazed. Her latest covers of Elvis Suspicious Minds and Whitney Houston I Have Nothing are this year when she turned 16 and are unbelievable. Others will give even more recommendations I am sure. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on KZfaq, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she con convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Hearing her for the first time challenged my beliefs about what is possible. Many have been stunned and thought “how can such a young child convey such mature emotions?” The “old soul” explanation probably has some truth, but it’s also worth realizing that young children experience intense emotions, possibly more intense than at any other time. She gives a voice to this intensity in a way that goes right to the Heart. You can hear a different side of her in each song she sings. I look forward to seeing more of your reactions to her music.
