This demo "Angels With Dirty Faces" and others from Like a Prayer are being auctioned between 7/17-7/22-19. Here it is for free. PL
To be crystal clear if it isn't already:I'm referring to the music itself and not the physical cassette it's on. If people want to bid on that cassette and are willing to pay for it, then by all means feel free to.

Pure magic. I can't even explain how I feel hearing this. I know the purpose of releasing these tracks in relation to the auction, but that aside, these are a true blessing to us long time Madonna fans. You have no idea Pat, how grateful and happy you have made fans of both you and M.

Both were a perfect team. The songs she has written and produced with Patrick Leonard a real classics. Remember LIVE TO TELL, LA ISLA BONITA; WHO` S THAT GIRL, LIKE A PRAYER, CHERISH, I`LL REMEMBER OR FROZEN, to name only a few. I wish she would do another work with him.

I'm guessing he's slightly miffed that she chose William Orbit to produce Ray of Light with her instead of him (after he co-wrote so many of it's songs with her.) Did you know he helped her write Frozen, Skin, Sky Fits Heaven, and Nothing Really Matters?

Honestly, this is my favorite song ever from her. This is a gem. Wonderfully written and produced. I can’t get enough of this song!!! One of her greatest vocal performances in her storied career. My goodness, a freaking classic. This would have been a perfect B-side. 😊❤️ Madonna/Leonard masterpiece!

Madonna before she got vocal lessons. i appreciate her rawness. But yeah by 1996 she learned a vibrato and used higher notes after Evita. Even in a simple song like Beautiful Stranger and Power of Goodbye you can hear how much more of a singer she became than this era. Madonna is very talented. but back then very rarely was there ever any talk about her musicianship when she wrote all of her hits mostly

some of that "kind of voice" appears brieftly in the chorus of "inside out" from "rebel heart" i guess... it's a very nasal tone of her vocal register

Probably because Madonna felt that it did not fit Like A Prayer album. I like the song, but it could have been the odd one out the tracks. Even the title is somewhat strange. It could have surely and easily been on True Blue or as a bonus track.

Seif Eddine - Absolutely. The title comes from a popular movie from 1938 starring James Cagney. Madonna already did a tribute song to one of his films in 1986 called "White Heat" with dialogue from that film. She might have thought it was too repetitive and wanted to do something different.

This is such a nice, catchy song! Had it been released back then -- maybe with some embellishments -- I think it might have done quite well. In any case, thank you for sharing it now. This was Madonna in her prime, when she was very much a first take artist. She's of the school that "if you don't get it in the first few takes, you've lost whatever 'magic' was there in the first place". Live to Tell is her original guide vocal as is the Like A Prayer vocal (the demo vocal is the track vocal). In later years, she's been chasing the crowd and working with the "it" producers of the day, whereas up until Ray of Light, she was setting the trends and making producers famous.

Love that late 80's sound. It was a time of innocence and enjoyment and this song perfectly reflects that. Can you work with Madonna again? The world needs this music back.
