I just had 3 Sisters Missionaries and 2 Elders over for pizza. I love to feed the Missionaries. The spirit with these young people was so strong. But I started telling them one of your story's i had been watching before they came. So your story set the mood or brought the spirit a bit stronger. They had also been teaching the gospel to others that day. So thank you for your part of bringing the gospel into my home. The story about your daughter's kindness in worrying about the young person that was being bullied. It shows you've taught your children well. Thank you for sharing. I struggle with doubting myself, I sometimes believe I’m the lowest of all people. Thanks for this message, it’s a great reminder that I need to start acknowledging the huge progress I’ve made in my life in the last 2 years since finding the restored gospel. In hindsight I will be able to look back at this period with extreme gratitude, in that God allowed for me to be refined in His name (it’s a blessing not a burden), to better serve Him in the future.

When I was new in the Church, about a year after my baptism, I got a job in Great Falls, MT. The job didn't work out, and I was let go, but I was committed to an apartment for the summer. I was sharing the apartment with a friend who was between jobs, and he found us jobs stacking hay in the area. The man we worked for had regular customers and all the equipment needed, and only needed workers. His one big difference from other hay contractors, was that we didn't work on Sunday. We'd shut down after lunch Saturday, and run back to Great Falls for Sunday, then back to the job Monday morning. His story was that if he honored the Sabbath, his equipment would be more reliable, and accidents wouldn't happen. He hadn't always honored the Sabbath, and the breakdowns and problems had plagued his business, keeping it barely at the break even point. When he started honoring the Sabbath, the problems just went away. His crews could get more hay stacked and with fewer issues, than his competition could, and for less cost. He tithed his business to his church, and honored the Sabbath. Those were the differences. It was a strong message for an impressionable 20 year old.

I went to the scriptures and looked them up. Oh boy, if that isn't true, I don't know what is.

Geez, really, big Jim was penalized for being inactive? That's two insults, first, the difficult shame of his father's alcholism which makes church activity a struggle. Second, actually penalizing big Jim because of inactivity which stems from the shame of his father's alcoholism. ( I know of very similar situations ) Some members had the spirit of discernment and understood. While others had no clue but chose to be condescending and judgemental.
