Excellent video Brant! I think Beach Bum Outdoors should have a Melanie Catch and Cook demo one Saturday. Your crowds would be a more diverse group and once you get them in the doors once, they’d certainly come back more often.

Went on vacation a and fished with a guide a few years ago. He put us on speckled trout. My dad caught 3 between 25”-30” long. We had no idea how special that catch was, the guide was beside himself. The guide told us that that we could win a tournament with that catch. That was the only 3 trout ever caught, we released everything we caught. We also caught a lady fish, a sting ray, and some pin fish.

Brent. You need to put lights in the water. The lighting is great for the camera too. But, the light shows you where the fish are. You stay away from hardly boys. You can even swim an artificial and see it swim.

Many many years ago, down in Oak Hill, FL. my grandpa got stuck by a HH. Our family owned Goodrich seafood and oystering, getting mullet, etc was how he made his living. He ended up losing part of his finger because it ended up gangrenous. They are nasty little buggers!

First of all great video and massive spec very cool of you to release it as you said it is a breeder so hats off on that.. Now here's my thing every time someone suggests we're gonna do a catch and cook whatever, it usually turns out to be the obvious best choice or one of them! What a shocker!!! Ha ha ha ha.. Ok just do a catch and cook stingray, moray eel, nurse shark (I would recommend skinning those) / That would be a catch and cook whatever

Thanks Brant and Mel! Yellow and zucchini squash with some nice batter very good. Your knife looks good for large fish. I use a Rapala signature knife, razor sharp and flexible to get the most meat from a fish. The blade gets skinny near the end and has a small, very sharp point. Great for panfish and hard to fillet types. Also pulls out cheek meat quite well.

Brant, the next time you fillet speckled trout try this. After you remove the fillet from the fish and after you remove the skin put a small cut right above the rib cage at the bottom of the fillet mabe a half inch long and then grab the rib cage in one hand and the fillet in the other and pull. All of the bones will come out of the fillet with the rib cage and you will save lots of meat. Speckled trout and white trout are the only 2 fish that i know this can be done on. Give it a try and tell me what you think. Keep up the great work my friend and God bless.

+1 on the Dexter knives. I live in New Orleans and we have a really nice restaurant supply store in our area. I saw whole display of various Dexter knives and picked one up and was shocked by how sharp it was. I think that knife cost me 11 bucks. So you can use them till they’re done and just buy another one.
