Mare is a Canadian KZfaqr sharing her journey in daily vlogs. Mare has a son, Thomas, who is deaf and on the Autism Spectrum. In June of 2017 Mare's husband Jeremy committed suicide after battling depression and anxiety for years. They shared their story for a couple years on this KZfaq channel. Mare created the Mareathoner community, a place where she makes sure everyone feels less alone. Mare left a decade-long career in radio to start her own business in 2016, Redhead Mare Media. Love how even though your going through such an unbelievable time, you still are taking time to do things for your friends. That's so amazing. You seem like such a great friend! And a great mom!!

Love that you enjoy making Q&A videos, because they're some of my favourite to watch! Can relate, in a way, to the unsolicited feedback received (not for being vegan) in my case, but I don't drink, haven't for 5+ years; and you wouldn't believe how worked up some people get over it! It's really odd because it literally doesn't affect them...!

OMG I bet you are asked if you are pregnant every five seconds. Why do people seem to care so much? I remember when I was pregnant and couldn't drink, suddenly I wasn't as fun for my friends and they didn't want me to come out. So confusing! I was still the same fun person and now I was the DD! So weird. But, you do you babe!

Haha, I've actually only been asked that once, and it was on vacation in Hawaii where I think a lot of people must go on babymoons, etc.! It is odd, though, the number of family members who always 'forget' and then constantly ask me at family functions if I'd like a glass of wine...

Good on you Mare, for taking care of yourself and recovering. Having had exposure to a family member who wanted to commit suicide and was eventually successful, I know how exhausted you must be. People may not always realize how difficult it is to keep someone who wants to die, alive. It's extremely hard and mentally exhausting. I understand your anger and that you are moving on without the constant threat dominating your life. Stay strong Mare.

Thank you for the Q+A! I live near Vancouver and my husband's parents recently moved to Osoyoos so I know the Penticton area, only I've only stayed there in the summer. For the next Q+A What's your favourite thing about living in Penticton? What is your favourite type of coffee, and what do you put in it as a creamer and to flavour it?

It's definitely up there, that's for sure. Not that I find myself being angry, it's more of a driving force to create a life for Thomas in which he's happy and safe and healthy.

Love the Q&A videos Mare! Thanks so much for being such an open book with us all the time. I appreciate how down to earth and easy going your responses are. I thought of a couple more while watching today: - Your recently asked what our favourite apps are -- I'm curious what yours are! Perhaps a video or thrown in with a vlog discussing some of your favourites? :D Do you think you'll do a review of the Headspace app you mentioned? - Running a household and your own business I have to ask -- any organizing tips?! Especially for all the documents (financial, legal, bills, random adulting-type mail you can't throw away lol). Thank you, and see you tomorrow! :)

You always amaze me with your openness and honesty. That cannot be easy to share that with the world. You are probably right about the anger towards Jeremy from others-I know I am angry for you and Thomas. On a more positive note-you make putting makeup on look easy. If I wear makeup, it's eyeshadow, mascara and lipstick. But I love the concealer you put under your eyes-so I'm thinking of trying that. Anyways, 5 more sleeps until school-happy dance! Do you follow any KZfaqrs that have an autistic child? Long time viewer of yours and because of you I've learned a lot about it and wanted to educate myself more. I just recently started watching "Fathering Autism" on KZfaq, they have a non verbal 12yr old daughter Abbie , ❤️ I have learned so much and I think that is the key with anything, is to educate yourself. Thank you. That makes me so proud that you are learning from us about Autism and want to learn more. That was a big reason for Jeremy and I deciding to go public about Thomas. We want people to be more understanding and accepting and see how great he is :)

About a month ago I decided to challenge myself to a week of being meat free, no big deal right? Well, I made the grave error of mentioning it on FB and what a shit storm rained down on me!! Talk about a polarizing topic! Yikes! People literally thought I had lost my mind. I plan on doing meat free much more going forward either a couple days a week or a week a month idk. Won't be telling anyone about it though. I'm not going down that rabbit hole again!! LOL

Isn't it fun doing adult outings? My bf and I went and saw Lady Gaga a week ago and stayed at a hotel in Cleveland. A must have get away! Her concert is a must see.

Check out the podcast "Plz Advise" if you like Q&A style videos. Molly McAleer is the host and she used to be a writer on 2 Broke Girls. She is absolutely hilarious and gives some great advice on a broad range of topics. I love having it on in the background.

I have leather goods from before going vegan/plantbased. I have some leather on my couches, purses, shoes, etc. I will be keeping. Although I really dont pay attention to brands, if I had any I would probably get rid of them if say if it was branded (name brand) and visible. My husband has to buy leather boots for work once a year. No other options. I have regular birthday cake once a year. Will I consume more than that in the future? NO absolutely not. I hope there will be better options in the future. Considering we are not consuming animal products like we did before I think it is progress. I pay no mind to fanatics. I believe in "when you know better you do better". I think I honor the animals by doing that. We do the best we can.

How has the grieving process for Thomas been? I imagine with his autism along with his age it makes it more difficult and confusing for him.

I've been vegetarian for sixteen years now and it's only in the last few years that I haven't gotten harassed for it. I started to tell those people when visiting, sorry, guess you can't have any of this delicious apple pie, it's meatless. Haven't heard much since then. 😉 Ridiculous but true.
