Anil Kumble born 17 October 1970) is a former Indian cricketer, coach, and commentator, who played Tests and ODIs for 18 years. A right-arm leg spin (leg break googly) bowler, he took 619 wickets in Test cricket and remains the third-highest wicket taker of all time (as of 2020, behind Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne). In 1999 while playing against Pakistan, Kumble dismissed all ten batsmen in a Test match innings, joining England's Jim Laker as the only players to achieve the feat.[1][2][3] Unlike his contemporaries, Kumble was not a big turner of the ball, but relied primarily on pace, bounce, and accuracy. He was nicknamed "Jumbo".[4] Kumble was selected as the Cricketer of the Year in 1993 Indian Cricket, and one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year three years later.

A fine bowler indeed. Us English had no clue really and Kumble was a fine bowler indeed. No massive spin but an absolute master of varying angles and pace not to mention the dip and bounce. A total handful of a bowler.

My family didn't have a television set during those times...I used listen to commentary all day on our Phillip's radio then look for next days newspaper for any pics....

This series against England in early 1993 marked the beginning of an excellent phase for Ind cricket till the 96 world cup. We won so many tournaments in that period!!

Great tribute on the great man's birthday! Absolute champ - India's premier spinner for such a long period of time. Not orthodox but certainly effective. 619 wickets is no joke and is easily up there with Murali and Warne. Indian fans - why is he not given due credit as someone like Sachin or Kapil Dev? Something I always failed to understand :)

@key and locks. At South Africa 2001 test series South Africa need 54 runs to win the test match in the second innings Ganguly give the new ball to Kumble. 2004 Kumble was not selected in the Australian tour Ganguly said he need Kumble in that series.

Excellent 👍 uploading. I was in the stadium first test at Kolkata... Kumble a true legend....strange after a good series vs Pakistan and West Indies at Sharjah 1991, Kumble was not picked up in the Australia series and world cup 1992. He comeback again 1992 vs south africa at South Africa rest in history.... Salute to Anil Kumble sir. It is true Kumble never get the scope to touch the world cup but his achievement of 10 wickets at Kotla. In the same Eden gardens he scored 88 vs South Africa 1996 what an innings that was.

Whole world was playing Kimble on back foot and getting LBW or bowled . He was not a typical spinner - very unique

Anil Kumble The Legend. India won home series against England, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa in 90s under Azharuddin and one series under Tendulkar. Then India lost against South Africa under Tendulkar.Then that epic series under Ganguly and again India started dominating the home series. The only loss in 2000s was against Australia in 2004. Then few series India played under the captaincy of Dravid and Kumble. Later Dhoni took the responsibility and India is really unbeaten in home ground.

Watched this series on Doordarshan. Cable TV came at the time of the 1992 World Cup but still didn’t spread like wildfire up until late ‘93. Indians had just returned from South Africa in Nov ‘92 and were beaten badly but remember Kumble, Raju & Chauhan literally spinning out England. Remember the Sportstar magazine cover after the series having the three holding each other’s hands as the new spin trio in Indian cricket. Vinod Kambi’s 224 was a huge innings which he followed up with 227 very shortly against the touring Zimbabweans in the one-off test at the Kotla in Delhi. Amazing memories!!

Excellent upload Bhai...Golden era revisited...Born in '86 this is the first test series I remember watching after catching the Cricket bug via the1992 World Cup...Only our dear broadcaster DD kept spelling Kumble as Kambli time and again.😊I can never ever forget Richard Blakey & his plight on the tour.

But unfortunately now the day no legie or offie sticks on the basics but instead trying too many variations instead of trying to turn the ball bcz of white ball cricket.In the current IPL Bishnoi pitches the ball far away from the stumps to save runs and not turning the ball and is not giving any flight.

Sidhu was in red-hot form with the bat during this series and so was Kambli.This was Sachin's first full fledged home series. after playing tests in Pak,New Zealand,Eng , Aus and SA

Yes after that Chouhan played till 1997 raju 2001 Kumble 2008. Kapil Dev sir achieve his 5000 runs landmark in this series at Chennai test...

Totally agree.... This series is something cricket lovers in Ind would always cherish. We beat a strong England team who were the runners up at the previous world cup in 1992.

Commentators realised very early in Kumbley’s career that he doesn’t turn his leg spinners but it took about 15 years for the opposition batsmen 😊

Exactly Kumble had a good series at Sharjah vs West Indies and Pakistan October 1991 after a month South Africa tour of India Kumble was not there raju played. India tour of Australia tri series at world cup and 92 world cup raju played not Kumble. He deserve a place but Azhar opt for Raju....

You see clear that English batsmen very uncomfortable against spinner trio raju, kumble and chauhan. This is nightmarish tour England they lost test 0-3 vs India and 0-1 against srilanka.

I listened to the commentary on AIR of all three test matches. India clearly were better side under those conditions but to be honest there were certain Debatable decisions from indian umpires.
