It was a nightmare discovering that the doors to my giant cloud rainforest vivarium, Pantdora, were wide open, giving all the creatures within a chance to freedom into my home. It spurred an entire journey of taking inventory of the animals that were still inside the tank and an epic search for those that had escaped, not without some interesting surprises along the way. Hope you enjoy this week's episode, Part 15 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

Then just had to put 1 frog on the outside glass and put the spider on the ground for a second and catch her again, probably did it there so it was wide open floor and no crevices to dart into. Why tf would it just be sitting out in the open like that lol, it would be hiding like spiders normally do.

I live in Australia and can tell you huntsman’s can open doors. Even find your keys, insert into locks, turning door knobs and then push the door.. Then they eat your cat. In all seriousness find a carpenter to hang the doors to your vivarium so they rest in a closed position and the magnets are used more as a locking mechanism rather than a holding mechanism.

About your Mantis: Take it out and hold it with a pair of pliers (unsure of the English word here). Put the backend of it under water for 10-20 seconds, if it is infected. The worms will come out. If it is infected, the logical assumption must be that the other animals are infected as well. If this is the case you can use predators to control it, if you are unwilling to use pesticides (which might hurt your animals). Depending on what you want in the vivarium you can choose ground beetles, flies in the Diptera order, American Bullfrog, Green tree frog, Guppies (which you already have) Bettas (don't go well with guppies though), Siamese fighting fish (will eat your other fish). You can also use nematodes, such as Steinernema feltiae (Will infect your insects and might kill them) or Heterorhabditis bacteriophora to fight them (Will also infect your beetles and ants though and kill them, but will regulate your ant population, which you've talked about multiple times is needed). Your only other option (which is also the most expensive), is to disinfect the water, with either pesticides like Bacillus thuringiensis (will kill your caterpillars and possibly the beetle larvey) for months, or boiling it, move to a cooling tank, move back into the vivarium. I hope this helps. Still looking forward to more footage of your mushrooms! BTW, on the note on mushrooms, have you thought about using mushrooms to control your ant population? Ophiocordyceps unilateralis (zombie-ant fungus) can infect ants of the tribe Camponotini.

At this point I'm starting to think he's just setting all of this stuff up. He most likely faked the frog count (convenient it was Kermit 'missing') and then placed him on the glass and started recording. We know he lied about not knowing how long the vivarium was open at a minimum since he had camera footage but the footage of the dog seems incredibly staged, which means there may not have been footage of it opening itself at all which would mean this entire 'crisis' was faked from start to finish. I'm super disappointed and quite turned off by this revelation.

Thankfully for me, my arachnophobia only strikes when I am near actual spiders in person without some kind of container between us. Just seeing spiders is fine for me. intellectually I love them, but my mind and body just shuts down when I have to get within 3 feet of them in person. I have been straight up unable to move when trying to deal with spiders in the house before, even tiny harmless ones. If I ever had a huntsmen in my house I would probably just die.

I used to be like you because of a traumatic event that happened to me once while cave exploring with my best friend. The passage to get in was very narrow and the rock walls had sharp protrusions, so we had to go in sideways and carefully. As we made our way near the end of the passage our one flashlight died, so we would flick on a cigarette lighter to periodically see about us. The cave opened up into a huge chamber that was also a dead end. I felt something on me and when I flicked on the lighter I saw there were thousands upon thousands of tiny white cave spiders everywhere! On the walls and ceiling. Also over me! In my hair, all over my shoulders and arms and.... I ran screaming like a little girl out of that cave. I cut my back and chest up pretty bad too because of the sharp narrow passage on the way out. My friend casually came out behind me laughing at me! Nonetheless, ever since that day I was petrified of spiders. Almost wrecked my car once because a spider floated in the window on a silk parachute and landed on my arm. After that incident, I decided to get over my fear. I mean, as a kid I would take an old pillow case out in the woods to see how many black snakes I could catch (I let them go afterward). So I thought it was silly to have this overpowering fear of spiders and started going to the library (no internet, yes, I'm old) and learned everything I could about them. That helped somewhat. But this is what helped me get over my fear for good. That Christmas, I asked my best friend what he wanted for a gift. He had always teased me about my fear after that cave incident, and so his smart-ass said he wanted a tarantula for Christmas that year. Little did he know I learned a lot about tarantulas too, and knew one of the most docile species was the Rose hair. So I went to the pet store and told the clerk there that I wanted to purchase a Rosehair tarantula and everything I would need to keep it healthy. The first thing he asked me was, have you ever held a tarantula before? I said no. He said hold out your hand and showed me the correct way to pick it up. This was it. This was my big test. I drew in a big breath, held it, and released it. Then I held out my hand. He placed the spider on my hand. I actually felt the tarsal claws on the end of its legs dig into my skin. It didn't hurt, but it's the strangest sensation. The spider started crawling up my arm and I told the clerk to get it off. I passed my test with flying colors. It was a process, but I can tell you it was well worth it as I have absolutely no fear of spiders anymore. I eventually bought a few different species of tarantulas for myself. If you read all this, then again, my best advice to you is that if you have a fear of something, why let it rule you or take power over you? Learn about what it is that you fear and face it. Conquer it! It's a gratifying feeling and not only will you learn about your fear, you'll learn about yourself. And be better off for it! Good luck! If I can do it, anyone can.

I think there's more than one. Like with vitamin gut packed mosquito larvae (which I think he should look into, very very easy to breed, I used to do it for breeding freshwater bettas for best colors) to feed the water critters and also the frogs once they hatch into adults. There's very rarely just *_one_* larvae of anything. To have just one would be more of a rarity than a handful or small population of them.

I think that was scripted. There's millions of frogs where he lives, it could have been any random frog and we wouldn't have known any better. Like how did he have his silhouette pantomime clothes on when he captured it? He would have had to run and put them on while yelling at the camera guy "get ready he's on the glass!" where it all worked out so nice and perfectly? That's pretty suspicious.

His name is Mikey Bustos, he was a KZfaqr trying to make it big on Canadian Idol before starting this channel. I enjoyed the content until I realized it was full of false narratives and deception. The shots he shows are all planned ahead of time. It's about as real as reality TV. The worm would eventually going to take over the mantis and drown itself anyway. At that point, after the mantis dies the worm then leaves the body, contaminates the water and begins the cycle again. It would be either risk drowning the mantis to see if it's there, and if it is eventually killing it but having the worm in a controlled space or letting the worm do it's thing and potentially infecting the only water supply in the vivarium, which could be catastrophic. @@user-vj1jf9sz5n

Thank you Michael for all you teach us beyond just knowledge. For some reason I love that Rocksteady was the first on the list. Always seeing what Rocksteady is up to every week is one of the highlights for me. What's weird is at 2nd chapter in this neat "series" I really really despised the name "Rock Steady" because it reminded me of something entirely different but I felt sorry for him. Still do. That's how I've grown to like him. He's a pariah with no friends to head butt or toss off rocks with. An outcast. To me, that's a very profound thing to deny an animal or even an insect without potential mates or other suitors - unless they're going to outright kill each other but I think the rhino beetles do really do that but could be wrong. I have zero experience other than watching previous shows on this channel about them which was pretty cool. It's like he says about other insects. I'll bet poor rock steady knows he's all alone in there. Mikey did mention adding a female but it's strange he hasn't done so yet. If me, I would try to establish a self sustaining rhino breeding situation like on day 1 of this project. As herbivores, I think? (he always says it's eating rotting mango or fruit), where not even the ants could harm them unless finding the baby grubs and eating them which is of course a huge possibility. But grown up, they seem to fit in pretty well with the rest of the tank. Even the name Rock Steady is kind of cool I have to admit, it's just kind of fitting. Never thought I'd write a book about the insect, but here we are today. Side thought, wish he'd put in a bunch of cool walking sticks. All different kinds and sizes. You'd look at the tank and coming up to it, nothing would move. Stand still for about 1-5mins especially if you're the "feeder" and they ALL know it, the whole vivarium thing would come alive.

Smaug’s tail looks like it has some bends to it, which is most likely early signs of metabolic bone disease due to lack of proper UVB. I would recommend getting stronger lights that provide UVB that can actually reach the forest floor if that is even possible. If you ever plan on adding more diurnal species of reptile, such as skinks or agamas this issue needs to be addressed. Otherwise they will not be able to survive for very long.

I work with alot of tarantulas and I think the tarantula that would make the most sense in this would be a Hystocrates Gigas. They're a Fossorial species, can dive underwater and stay there for upwards of an hour, they thrive in moister conditions, and they've been known to cohabitate their burrows with certain species of frogs. The frogs protect their eggs from bugs and the tarantula protects the frog in return.

I am not an expert but put the mantis abdomen for minutes it will come out mostly the mantis gets controlled by the worm to water killing the mantis this worm spreads through crickets horsehair worms lay eggs in water thus the reason why it goes to water and the egg gets eaten by small insect larvae such as mayfly and hatches as a larva where it eats the flesh and the adult may fly gets eaten by crickets where it goes to an adult eating some insides and controlling its host if the host is eaten again it will it again like a mantis and controls the mind of the host and begin searching for water and swims there some times drowning the host and goes through the butthole of the host and there it breeds and starts the life cycle again i hope this help even though I’m nota expert.

We live with geckos IN the house, crazy ants, tons of endemic ants like the Comejen, constantly trying to get to our foods, lizards and anoles coming in for mosquitos to eat (thanks lizards 🦎), centipedes and millipedes hiding in corners, and the most famous frog of our island--- the Coquí, which sings us to sleep at night with their chorus outside and the occasional annoying high-pitched singer that makes it indoors.
