When taking about the older folklore, I tend to wonder how much of the perception of more malicious Fae comes down to the antagonism of the story tellers, rather than the nature of those Fae. Throughout most of Europe there was plenty of folklore about types of human people that is similar to stories about the Fae (they steal children, cause disease, kill cattle, etc.).

I had a "interesting" incident back in the early '90s. I was in Scotland, and had ended up at Melrose on May Eve, where I had the cheek to climb up into the Eildon Hills, taking my small harp along. (While playing up there, I lost a little time, but that's another tale.) Anyway, on the way back down, I had a sense of someone - or Someone - just behind my shoulder, and every dog I encountered, out walking with their person, wanted nothing to do with me, including the local police dog, who bounded happily toward me, tail wagging, and then stopped, hackles up and growling, and another dog that when I came near whined and cried and hid behind their person. The cats at the B&B, however, thought I was wonderful. The effect wore off after a few days, but thirty years later, I'll still sometimes meet a dog that looks at me warily.

Excellent video! I wondered recently about the relationship of fairy beings and other animals and rather or not they (or some types of them, as different fairy creatures have very different behaviour) treat animals similarly to the way they treat humans, as fairies are, generally, not humans themselves. Unrelated to that, I was wondering if you might do a video on hags any time soon? I am really curious about those types of beings but I find it hard to get reliable sources. I often hear they are malevolent or dangerous but I also heared that they can be more complex and ambiguous, still dangerous but they might also be helpful if you respect them and do as they say.
