Forget about keyframes, animate using a background node instead! This is a fun experiment showing off some cool features in DaVinci Resolve Fusion like the Probe modifier and expressions!

Very good example for those who are more visual and colorful than animation curves

More important would be to have a visualizing system in Davinci Resolve for Keyframes you make via Fusion Macros. Just made something via a Fuse and published at WSL. Called it VisTransform. It blends resulting curve into the clip. But Jakes method would give you the possibility to blend resulting grayscale and do it in a macro.

The reason this method is so useful is because it’s significantly more repeatable once it’s been set up as a macro, regardless of the duration of the comp. So in the long run, you can use a gradient to do easy animations in any comp just by applying a preset and adjusting the gradient, done.

As soon as I saw this my mind immediately thought this might be the answer to a technique I'd been trying to apply but it doesn't seem so If you could figure out a way to set animations in the spline window for different controls across different nodes, and then have a master slider to "drive" those animations from start to end in time, that could prove INCREDIBLY useful as you'd be able to control the easing on all the controls via 1 slider. I tried this by modifying all controls with animcurves, setting input to custom, setting up my Keyframes, and then Linking the Time offset of each modifier to 1 slider, but fusion didn't like that and crashes immediately when you try to animate the time offset (or when it's at 0, can't remember) It would sort of be like Time speed node but way more efficient as it's not based on frames

Are you saying different length animations but they all have the same easing? Or different animations with the same length an easy? (For example one might be 0 to 1 and another might be 5 to 1)
@abstract2756
@abstract2756 9 күн бұрын
@@JakeWipp different animations with whatever set of values, whatever lengths, but driven by 1 "Time" controller thats NOT the TimeStretcher or TimeSpeed node. For better understanding, I got the idea when i was making a little animation for moving your mouse to the youtube video's settings icon, opening it while moving to Quality, then opening that while moving to 480p. In this case, multiple animations are happening that have pretty much exactly the same easing It's rather hard to explain for sure lol

Is there a way I can connect the gradient points to a custom control.?

nice idea, I tried to apply this method to custom slider from 0 to 1... and the Davinci always crashes (freezes) :D
@JakeWipp
@JakeWipp Күн бұрын
Did you add the customer slider to the Background node with the gradient? If so that's causing the issue because in order to render the background node the probe needs to be calculated, but before the probe can be calculated the background node needs to render. So just add the slider to a different node.

@@JakeWipp nope, I added the custom slider to the second background node, then I tried to the Custom Tool :/

Add a Time stretcher node with the expression floor(time/2)*2. That would take a 24fps timeline to 12fps. Then just change the /2 and *2 to customize the scale. You can just put that in a adjustment clip if you want

Other than you making it as a macro others can use, for its re timing ability, I don't seen any benefit over tried and tested key frames and all the tools that are designed for key frames. Nice experiment, though. Too complicated to be efficient to set up each time, compared to key-frames. And mainly it works for predictable motion graphics, pretty much unusable for VFX work because its all unique. Probe modifiers and expressions have their place and wide application in fusion, and depending on what you are doing they can be life-savers an time-savers. Personally I've used them mainly in VFX not in motion graphics, which seems to be the main focus on this channel. So there is that motion graphics bias for sure.

Well this isn't really meant for practical use for 95% of people. I'm trying to show those fairly familiar with Fusion some cool and creative ways to use more advanced tools. And yes I pack a lot of information into a short time, which is how I enjoy learning instead of listening to a bunch of rambling that isn't important. If the video is all good information but too fast, you can always watch it again or comment with any questions. Just my 2 cents
