But in the video you said you are comparing the bows ? Isn’t accuracy for the most part a result of the individual archer not the equipment?

@Historical Archery The only reason it would matter for someone to shoot more arrows in a short time would be during battle conditions. I am a 100% positive the guy with the modern bow would be trying harder to sling more arrows downrange if they were in that situation.

More like a pellet gun to a field knife. One is for just hitting a target at range, one is for hunting, war, close range, long range, self-defence, portability, durability, and versatility. Modern bows are big, expensive toys. Medieval bows are tools.

ive seen ones that look like straight up oversized tripods. compounds will never not be silly to me which is disappointing considering every time i go into my local archery shop they only ever have compound related stuff (literally dont even have string material) and they give me the wildest looks when they find out i shoot trad bows

Old ass bows like that don’t serve any purpose anymore. They have been completely outclassed by modern materials and design A more extreme example would be saying “muskets still serve a purpose in modern arsenals”

Actually compound bows can be shot much faster than you were shooting the trad bow. I’m sure you have seen vids on speed shooting compounds. The only difference is the compound is much slower at tracking targets. That’s why compound shooters never move around. They stand like lame birds in trees or stiff monkeys on the range. 🤭

It's generally advisable to hit your target in order to damage it, so I wouldn't discount the accuracy of a compound. Especially since it will almost always be hitting much harder because let off allows someone to pull a lot more poundage all other factors being equal.

Well this was probably designed for mass volley fire. If you are facing a army of spearmen spanning giant amounts of land. It doesn’t really matter how accurate it is as long as it fires far enough to reach the enemy. Volley fire isn’t exactly known for accuracy but for the hoards of arrows going towards the enemy.

Scythian bows are not known to be particularly heavy

In 2010, Kevin Strother claimed to use 135-150lb@30" compound bows for hunting. One these supposedly managed over 165 ft-lbs (224 J) with 410-430-grain arrows. Strother held world record for shooting the fastest arrow & longest range with a compound bow (not sure if these still stand). So that's at least an example of compound bows with high draw weights.

Compound bows deliver way more power at any given draw weight & draw length. Historical soldiers would have used them if they had them, though not with all the accessories for slow but accurate shooting.

@@HistoricalWeapons I know I actually practice both styles, but just because you have a different type of bow and shoot fast doesn’t mean you should sling wood all over the range I mean you hit the target twice, they weren’t exactly the best shots ever anyway, and your grouping was godawful. Shoot fast AND shoot accurate that’s how I was taught with a traditional horse bow, aim small miss small with a compound, And I’m pretty sure the ancients would agree with me.

@@blacksnapper7684 A bow used in war has a different purpose from a bow used for hunting. In war, you want to sling that wood as fast as you can. Human targets move around and standing there taking your time to aim for that pinpoint, dead-on shot, youre more likely to miss than simply shooting a bunch of arrows. Still need accuracy though, but Jack's accuracy isnt that bad considering how many more arrows he shot compared to the compound archer. Its not like he missed all his shots wildly, theyre still pretty close. When I shoot, I figure as long as I hit a target the size of a human torso, im good. Of course if you can have the same accuracy as the compound archer with Jack's shooting speed, even better.

@@Aulaein Idk man I still think/ was taught that if you can’t purposely hit your enemy in a place that would kill them in a timely manner than you as good as dead that’s why I’ve developed a combination of both styles of archery after practicing both for years.

Shooting quicker is not the point. Those bows are designed to be shot slowly and aimed for competition
