Welcome to Day 1 of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek Series, the gear prep episode! In this first video, we talk about my first full day in Kathmandu where I went shopping and did my last bits of prep before heading to the Annapurna Region. I discuss what my guide and I thought I needed for the base camp trek. I also talk about my feelings going into the trek and my two small concerns!

Thank you for this detailed video! I got distracted at the beginning of the video because I thought it was Joshua Weissman, a youtuber chef.

Evening, Viktor... Wow, I hope those new boots are going to work out for you. What an adventure! I'm going to share some of your South Pole adventures with my Mom, tomorrow night. She'll be 87 this August. We're just waiting out this Covid-19 business here in the shore of lake Ontario, New York. Take good care, God bless always; we will be waiting for your next check-in. Thank you for your efforts to share this with the rest of us, it's a real treat!

Wish that I found your channel sooner, great content my man, although it seems that sadly, your content was lost in the mountain of other channels on YT.

Beautiful, you either fall in love with Nepal or hate it (still think the few i know who hated it were strange). We completed EBC last year and hopefully will get to ABC next year. The life straw was amazing!

I would agree! I loved it so much! Amazing that you did EBC! I’d love to do that someday ☺️ But I hope you make it to ABC, it’s stunning there too 🙌

Been binging on South Pole videos and now watching this one. Those items like north face and other name brands could very well be real. Products made in China like shoes and clothes are made in factories. Customer orders 100k units and factory make 300k and unloads them on black market which can easily be where you were shopping in Nepal.

Sadly I don’t think these were! The shoes didn’t last more than another hiking season, and the pants zipper broke on this trip. Hahah.

@@GoneVenturing That’s very possible they were counterfeit then. If you’re ever in China like Ghuanzou (sorry spelling) they have market after market with product overruns. Your videos are awesome! I’ve always wondered what it’s like to live in the South Pole. You bring it to life! Almost can feel the chill in the air when you went outside. I like to cruise on cruise ships and watch a Russian icebreaker take on the North Pole. I’m fascinated by these remote parts of world! I told fellow cruisers that you not only need lots of money but you need balls to do what you’re doing. Kudos! Can’t wait to see if you venture back to the South Pole!

@@JamesBaker-qx1cx Yeah fair! I’ve heard it can be hit or miss, so just don’t get any really critical gear from those shops. The boots were the big risk but they got me through! Haha. Ahh thank you so much! I’m really happy that you’ve enjoyed the South Pole videos! It’s a really special place. Sadly I don’t think I’ll be going back for some time as I’m currently settling down in NZ. But I’m missing making videos and would like to start up again. It’s just the getting to it and doing it!

Any chance you can write a timestamp in the discription. Something like filmed in may 2020.

No need for a stove? Also, 50+ years of experience has taught me that cheap tools can actually injure or kill.
@GoneVenturing
@GoneVenturing 4 жыл бұрын
Nope! We stayed in villages the whole way and the guest houses all had a little restaurant. And the food we cheap. So no stove or cooking needed! Also I totally agree on the cheap tools thing! I would never say to get super vital things that are cheap or poorly made. But certain things that aren’t going affect your safety (like an extra pair of pants) I don’t think it matters too much.

I’ve been able to do it because of the work I do! I spent an entire year in Antarctica which allowed me to save up a lot of money since there isn’t much to spend on. I’m back to working now!

@@GoneVenturing I've seen some of the work you do from your videos and I have done similar work, nothing with fuel and airplanes but i have worked in warehousing, distribution, and inventory. Yet I've never had or been aware of any opportunity to travel around the world for work. So, there must be a stark difference between us. Perhaps your education and experience. Im not asking for a resume, just a bit more information so that i might tweek mine, and perhaps move my experience in that direction.

Honestly it just started with a gap year. I finished my undergraduate studies and decided that I wanted to take a year break before continuing and getting my masters. Through traveling and just meeting people that we’re out doing cool things, my eyes were opened to some of the opportunities that were out there, like Antarctica. And then I just did work that was similar and relevant. For example, working with wine (tanks, pumps, and hoses) is very similar to working with fuel! And yeah, just networking and working hard!

@@GoneVenturing wow thats crazy. Ive worked as a lift driver, roll clamp, flat clamp, high reach, stand up loaders, with computers rf scanners inventory. When i saw your video i thought well hey why dont i go do what i do some where besides here? Right. So i dont how or what have to do to get there. But in a world so hopeless, thanks. You have inspired me to look to the future.

Ahh, those are definitely super valuable skills, particularly in Antarctica! There are a wide variety of jobs to look into. I would check into supply, cargo, etc. Those jobs are all listed through the PAE job portal! New jobs for the year always go live on Jan 1!
