Yeah he may have looked healthy, but the fact that he had Tom deliver his speech for him said a lot, there's a good chance he may have been having trouble speaking at this point.

I live in the same city where Hillenburg lives & skate around the Ocean Institute where he first drew the comic. This is the best cartoon in a very long time. I am so sad for him having ALS! I had a cousin, she was an artist & suffered 5 years before passing. She couldn’t paint or move , eat or speak anymore. So sad! Awful disease! Wish there was a cure! Maybe he will survive, there are stem cell therapies & he has all the money to try everything. I hope that he can somehow beat this ( would take a miracle). So sad he has this! Everyone send him letters saying how much you love the cartoon forever. Would probably mean a lot to him!

Stephen looked good in this footage but you could tell there was something off about his smile. When I first watched this it took me a minute to realize that Tom giving Stephen's acceptance and thank you speech for him probably meant the Stephen could no longer talk, and that his ALS was progressing fairly fast.

Tom mentioned glandular injections while giving his speech, which meant that Stephen was taking them to soften his disease
@gooshinggrannythesoorigina38422 жыл бұрын
He could definitely still talk at this point, but it was getting harder for him to speak in longer sentences, a speech would definitely just be awkward, but also Stephen was notoriously shy and introverted, he probably wouldn't have wanted to get up on stage and talk in front of everyone anyway. The disease didn't really strike him hard until the last few months. Around August it was just too hard for him to walk anymore so he stopped coming into work, but Vincent Waller reported that he could still laugh and talk however much he could at that point.

All the people we admire just been dying this year and I think it’s really pure coincidence because everyone has their death day, but these deaths have been happening so close together that it really just clusters up your emotions don’t they . SpongeBob is the most important cartoon of my life and was my damn childhood, my mom and grandma told me I'd stay up for hours watching SpongeBob and banged on the TV when a episode ended. I remember when my mother told me he passed, I was like 13 at the time and didn't really understand the importance of his death until about a year a half ago, I cry any time I see one of these about him because he made my childhood and we lost him too soon...
