Annihilator Broadheads had a booth at ATA this year where they displayed their original broadheads as well as a newer larger cut model. The short, 3 blade, one piece 4140 construction makes this a very durable head. 60 degree bevels are known for being very easy to sharpen and very durable, though they aren't as sharp as smaller bevel angles. The concept behind the broadhead is to push tissue out of the way so that the arrow shaft can slide through unimpeded behind the broadhead.

I love them, used this past fall. I had a blow thru at 30 yds @ 60 lbs. Easy tracking, great blood trail. They might be a bit pricey, but I have ruined almost all of my mechanical broadheads with shoot thru. I can shoot these over and over, Instead of the one and done mechanicals. If you have to repair the mechanicals they become more expensive that these broadheads.

For both UTS and 2% yield strength, 440C stainless shines over the other steel and aluminum alloys in this comparison. 4130 alloy steel comes in a close second. Aluminums fall at the bottom in terms of UTS, but 304 stainless steel has the lowest 2% yield strength at 42.1 ksi.

Question: I can't help but wonder if "punching a hole" inflicts more pain or shock that scares the animal to run harder? I would think the cleaner the pass-through the more likely the deer isn't as sure of danger and the more likely they won't sprint until they can't (I hunt on small parcels).. Anybody have thoughts on this? I've had some great luck with replaceable stamped ramcat blades bringing deer down within 40 yards, so I simply don't buy that clean cuts result in less bleeding. I do however like the idea of a heavy duty broadhead on a heavy arrow penetrating at any angle regardless if it hits bone (my one bad experience with my ramcats). Maybe some ballistic gel tests to back up their claims of larger wound channels without sacrificing efficiency. Perhaps it would result in less arrow drag that would compensate as they theorize. But most likely I'm only considering these because they look cool...I'll probably end up giving them a shot.

@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 4 жыл бұрын
The smaller of the two heads is quite small. So even though the scoops would be harder to push through, they're not as bit as I'd imagined by looking at pictures. It's sort of like a pilot hole. If you get the head though, even if there's more resistance, there's very little resistance on the rest of the shaft. I don't have any real world experience with them, so that's about all I can say.

There are a few broadheads out there using knife steels like S30V (Solid and Daysix) and Iron Will with A2 treated to 60RC. One thing to consider is that knife steels aren't always designed for the same level of impact resistance a broadhead might see.

These are awesome broadheads there's just two little flaws. The first one is the small cutting diameter but it kind of makes up for a little bit with the little scoop cut that it makes number two is the way it's designed with that little cup or scoop that helps with the cutting diameter in creation of the hole is that out to further yardages which all the reviews agree on 45 50 yards and that Broadhead loses its kinetic energy and starts to drop really fast because that scoop is scooping are in slowing the Broadhead down. From 0 to 40 yards it's a great Broadhead but passed that 40-yard mark and the aerodynamic design of that Broadhead just kills its flight and kinetic energy
@grizzledmillennial4765
@grizzledmillennial4765 4 жыл бұрын

I just spoke to the owner of the studio and have convinced him to testing and recording the results of Arrow flight noise of arrows with feathers, Blazer vanes, 4 inch standard vanes and FOBs. He composes, records and produces music videos and is a perfectionist and is willing to set up this test. He is currently deciding on how what is the best way to do this in a controlled environment. I would like to see if your broadheads limit vane noise due to the turbulence you say they create over the shaft. Would you be willing to sell me one for testing?
@OutdoorShellback
@OutdoorShellback 4 жыл бұрын
Just for clarity, now we want MORE drag and surface area on the non cutting edge of broadheads? It feels backwards too that you'd need less, or "zero", tuning on these heads. With more surface area on the front of the arrow...wouldn't that typically require MORE tuning? Look, all I see is another fixed head BH that's not a lot different than the rest that's still going to require tuning for good flight and sharp edges for cutting meat. $50+ for a 3 pack is definitely not incentive to even give these a second look, much less paying money for it.

This is almost an exact copy of the Bishop Holy Trinity. In fact, if Bishop has a patent on their head, this is basically their head except 1/8” less cutting diameter. Bishops are awesome heads, so if this is as strong as theirs, and doesn’t infringe on patents, you probably have something.
@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 4 жыл бұрын
I'd say it's different from the Bishop in the design of the "scoops". The Bishop HT (which I own and love) has the ferrule taper up to about 11/32 to match the biggest insert sleeves. This head goes bigger to try and really oversize the initial hole, and then downsizes the cutting diameter to account for the greater resistance it appears. VPA is more similar in design to Bishop I would say, though I believe VPA has been around for a really long time.

My experience with 60 degree bevel 3 blades like this is that they are very easy to touch up on a stone, but they will never get as "sharp" as a narrower bevel.
