This is so great, it reinforces the theory so much more than books, siing it in practice over a whole piece like this. It reinforces also what a bloody genius Mozart was, as if we needed reminding! xD Thanks for all of the hard work this must have taken, looking forward to many more!

I love this Mozart sonata. And about the exposition episode, I have seen something similar occuring in the Pathetique Sonata, although I myself consider the Pathetique Sonata to be a 3 theme sonata form like this: Theme I, C minor -> Theme II, Eb minor in Exposition, starts in F minor in Recapitulation -> Theme III, Eb major with these characters: Theme I: C minor scale in octaves in the bass, adrenaline rush that just doesn't want to let go so easily, Theme II: Hand crossing, melody starts in the bass and rises up, Peaceful, or is it? Theme III: Alberti Bass in contrary motion, More joyful tone, but not for long Since all 3 of these themes get broken down and developed after the G minor reprise of the Grave, that supports the idea of a 3 theme sonata form in Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata.

playing first movement of this for a year now... still capturing and entrancing... especially the recap part is a masterclass in composition and theme development. I have heard that Mozart has written this piece around the time that her mother died and he was in tour, away from home. That's probably why it is so intense. The second movement is in major but sounds sadder than minor!

Hi! It’s a bit of a dilemma. Roman numeral/chord analysis can be misleading/confusing when it comes to Mozart, but at the same time figured bass isn’t generally helpful because many listeners don’t feel confident with it. I’ll have a think how best to communicate harmony for the next one 👍
