Questo primo movimento é interpretato magnificamente. Vorrei dire ...ogni nota ha senso! Un suono magnifico, ritmo i calzante, drammaticità e malinconia assieme. Qui c'è il DESTINO che marcia e travolge la vita, qualche momento di luce. Richter rende benissimo tutto questo

In one of his letters Mozart said;the most important in piano playing is the thempo...it is so difficult to have the right thempo and to don't loos it.Make the lines smood. Every single peace played from Svjatoslav is for me the absolute perfection. I always enjoy to listen different interpretations and again and again is Svjatoslav the best!

Speaking only for myself, the first movement played at the perfect tempo at which it should be played.

Richter always followed the composer instructions, and I like it this way. But I guess Mozart often played it faster, just to show off. I feel he was that kind of musician :)

Piano lessons, Boulder Actually not quite, we have metronome markings left by Czerny(who studied with beethoven) and Moscheles, both of whom wrote q=132. this is about q=116

The first time I hear mozart played really Forte and aggressively and it doens't sound bad, all the oposite, this sounds GORGEOUS!

Exactly in this tempo I am playing this piece. It's losing all its power and pain when you play it too fast, Imo. But I think he is getting a bit faster...

Richter somehow thought he didn't have quite the touch for Mozart. This was not false modesty. He really believed it. Also, Beethoven's à posteriori influence on Mozart playing is often a revelation, like here. Beethoven's revolution has an influence on interpreters of works composed before and after him. Sort of like Paganini for the violin.

I agree with Richter. His playimg is heavy. He never expressed the joie de vivre and sponteneity of Mozarrt. He plays Mozart like a comedian telling a joke written for him that he doesn't quite get.

Richter is a great pianist, one of the greatest, but this interpretation of his, is very personal, for he plays reading he ends up playing some parts a little different to what is really written, i mean mostly when it comes down to pauses, or longer notes that he plays, for example sometimes its crotchet and he plays quaver and so on. Not criticizing who am I do to so ? I'm just saying this for students who end up watching this video and just copying the way he plays.

I appreciate playing according to personal thoughts and feelings, which goes with the flow - the way how music should be. there is not right nor wrong unless you try to be

I’m studying this piece now and I don’t see any instance in which Richter plays anything other than what’s written. Can you provide some specific examples of what you think is incorrect in his performance? I think he does a brilliant rendition.

It is sooo slow, I cannot find any energy or angry! He plays very well but if faster, it will be perfect I think.

Am I the only one surprised by the little amount of light he plays with ? I mean, I often play with a weak lightning but usually professionals don't show that.

Richter never really liked concerts or even recordings - he was very very nervous, so he played with as little lighting as possible, so that it feels more like a "private" rendition. Also he tends to rush quite a bit because of that, but honestly that's what a "Richter rendition" just is and it's what made him famous - his fire - together with his at that time much envied technical skill.

+PredatorTomW addition: Funnily enough here he played some parts very "metronomical" which conveyed the majestic feeling very well; it's great! It's the "late" richter anyways, so he wasn't as nervous anymore, I guess.

Shootokill nice remark, well mozart wrote this in his early age when his mother died so it’s one of his dramatic works which is quiet rare in the mozart encyclopedia
