My 2007 P71 had the same problem. Dropped the tank and where the filler goes into it, there is another flap that was stuck partly open. Fixed that and no more problems. In mean Time, just put fuel nozzle halfway in and was fine. Great video buy the way brother.

There are videos where this problem is from a clogged vent tube and or a filter in the vent system. The repair is cheap and easy. This is the first I have heard it was caused by an expensive filler tube repair. The hack is awesome though. Thanks!

The dirt gets in through the over flow pipe that comes out through the rear driver side wheel well just blow some compressed air through it and you're good to go!!!! Or you can do it this way temporarily thanks to Mr random great video bro

Yep, its a Ford thing. Same issue with my Explorer, my Mazda pickup (ford Ranger in disguise) and my Merc Grand Marquis. Never experienced this with any other make. Ive always just squeezed the trigger half way to reduce the flow and stood there holding it. Great simple hack, thanks!

Used to encounter the exact same issue with the old "box Chevy" trucks, '73-'87. Same trick resolved the issue.

I wedge the gas cap between the door hinge and pump handle, got to turn the pump handle a bit till the cap fits, works good for me.

My grand marquis did this twice and never again. But I appreciate the hack and the info, this is gonna be helpful if it happens again

The first time it happened to me I thought my gas gauge was broken and the far was full lol.

Yes, I have the same problem and the tank tries to expel fuel if the pump is not held firmly! Quite helpful video! However, I saw another video which probably fixes the problem. There's a rack underneath the tank which holds some black plastic casing with some tube like structures. Don't know the name but when released and cleaned, it purportedly showed the issue addressed!

Its called a plugged fuel tank vent hose. Its an easy fix and all cars a susceptible to it. It's a fairly easy fix.

same issue with my marauder. Just slightly lift the pump and try to hold it downwards when filling up. Works everytime. I think its more convinient than holding the pump upside down. Just dot put the pump all the way down to allow breathing room.

Its a common ford problem and if you lightly swueeze nozzle to full throttle instead of yank on it, and/or slightly pull nozzle out a bit fixes it as well. My vic and all my older fords have same issue.

I had the same problem. I sprayed rubbing alcohol in the overflow tube to clean it out. Than I pumped compressed air in the tube. Problem Solved! 🚗🏁👍

My crown vic gas gauge always freezes if I fill it to the top then slowly rises to full in about a day.

Never overfill the fuel tank. Everytime the gas handle "clicks", this tells you fuel/vapors has reached the neck. WHen this happens, fuel vapors as well as fuel, travels down the breather pipe to your fuel vapor "charcoal" canister. It is mounted on the underside of the gas tank and is easy to access. I reccommend CVPI owners replace this canister, as well as inspecting the connected hoses. When clogged, it can affect emissions and less performance. Lastly, the fuel vapor canister is both vacuum and electrical which sends signals to your PCM. Check it out!

I've been using that hack myself ever since I started driving what is now my crown victoria when my grandfather was still alive. Its a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria, non-PI and don't always have to use that hack, just depends on which gas station I go to and how fast the flow is at the nozzle.

Does this still allow it to stop when the tank is actually full? Seems like it could be a problem. I usually just hold it the gas trigger down like halfway and it lets me actual;y fill up my vic. Pretty annoying though still.

My Passat does the same thing, my fix is just to pull out the fuel nozzle a bit further and it stops cutting off fuel

I just lift the nozzle up a little bit and perhaps it helps ventilate so the problem goes away. We don't have the holding clip here anyway so it's not much additional effort.

ANOTHER TIP, use the gas cap from your car and put it between the bar that you squeeze and the inner part of the handle to keep it going if the handle is missing that bar with the 2 slits for the trigger lock. 2nd thing you can do regarding the fuel-off-kickback is: only put the tip of the penis. lol. first 3mm of the nozzle in the hole and let the weight of it keep it there and then use the lever lock slit, or the 2nd position of the lever lock (silver tab that goes inside one of the 2 slits).

My 98 Grand Marquis does this too, so i always turn to nozzle to the 3:00 position so the shut off still works. Don't know how true it is but I've heard spiders like to make nests in the vapor escape line in the filler neck and causes this. "skinny tube next to the main fill tube" I have no idea how they can even get in there though.

Random, I have an 09 P71. I've changed the battery and starter on it, but once in a while after I drive the car a long distance (100 miles) it won't start. It has power, it doesn't crank or anything but then it starts up. Usually it happens when I have the parking break on. Any ideas ? Anyone have similar issues ?

I have a 2004 Chevy Impala that needed an evap vent purge valve replaced. I bought it not knowing you can't put more than 0.5 gallons of gas in it at a time. I guess the next car I buy I should try filling it up with gas LOL. Ya never know. I had to wait at least 24 hours before trying to put more gas in it. Damn all brands have issues it seems..
