I kinda hate how people are talking about the jets moving now when meanwhile the league did everything they could to keep Arizona for over a decade despite the on ice team also being terrible.

Talk of any team moving (Jets included) is just idle barking unless the ownership is unstable. And the Jets have some of the stablest ownership in the league that just bought in on two significant downtown developments. It'll take more than 1-2K empty seats a game to get the owner interested in selling.

People will talk but winnipegers know there’s no need to worry any time soon. True North has invested way too much money in the surrounding areas to be able to afford to lose this team. Plus our owner is the richest person in Canada

they wont move unless money is the reason. i also feel that arizonas ownership is the majority of the problem with that situation, as far as the nhl is concerned they just want the drama to be over. i dont think the jets are realistically moving anytime soon. but that depends on them making better decisions at better times than arizona did with their state.

I've heard the ownership kinda screwed ST holders forcing them to pay for three years+ interest to renew this season. Dunno if that's true but thought that was weird.

TNSE isn’t going to sell the team, large developments happening in the downtown core we are talking several billions. For the STH issues, TNSE had a policy where they needed people to sign on long term to show their longevity. However some shareholders couldn’t afford or moved and couldn’t satisfy the agreement that’s where you hear disgruntled fans. There is some issues TNSE has to figure out, from raising the the corporate STH to 30% from 15%. How to market to a blue collar town then a major city like Toronto and New York. We have a strong base, but it takes time with selling season tickets. People will go to games if a major game is on, compared to not as great teams (a lot of nhl teams are like that). In Winnipeg it’s about a deal. We like our deals. And the problem is people want to buy so they can go to the games they want and sell the rest. But when you play Columbus or San Jose, no one cares so those tickets will never sell if you are a STH. So STH don’t resign when they can get them on a third party app for cheap, and avoid the sunken cost. To them that’s a better deal. So TNSE needs to try to tackle the games the fans don’t want to see. TNSE needs to say this is a game (Columbus) not to miss with some whacky promotion. Whereas selling tickets to wild, the leafs, Montreal game won’t be a problem. The real problem will come when mark chipman dies. Will the org be strong enough to continue? The real benefits for longevity in the city is our city is rapidly growing and the large developments hitting the core this summer and next. Overall I’m not worried, but don’t be surprised if we don’t sell out STH for the next couple of years.

Hope that continues and expands.

The reason the Jets attendance is low is that ticket prices have spiked like crazy in recent years, way faster than inflation. That's why the team is not worried, they are still making more money from ticket sales than most US based teams.

The Jets need more players that are built for the playoffs. Guys that can fire up the group. Far too many times, this team gets hit in the mouth, and they just fold. They get down 2-0 or 3-0, and their heads drop on the bench and there's no belief or confidence that they'll come back. Top teams fall behind, and they don't quit and keep fighting. Sometimes they come back, and when they don't, they still go out fighting. And also, which is similar to the Leafs, the Jets have an ownership group that like to be safe and not make brash moves. They reward loyalty and friendship instead of going by results. No matter how many people keep saying Chevy is a good GM, the fact of the matter is that the team has 3 playoff series wins in his 13 seasons as GM. Where else would that be considered acceptable? We've seen GMs that have won cups not last as long after a few bad years. And the Jets need a coach that will be able to roll four lines that can all provide offense. As it is, with this top 6 loaded up for offense and bottom 6 set more for defense, if the top 6 goes cold, then this team doesn't score. You look at teams that win the cup, and they're able to roll four lines that can provide offense.
@mercywilliams2698

This is so relevant. The management consistently puts together a talented roster and retains depth. Drafts well. But you are so right..they have not had a roster with players who have to win in postseason games. That certain edge. It can be a part of things..just need attention to that. Tampa did it by adding incisive role players. We know what Florida has done. Vegas likes quietly intense competitive players. Every viable team figures this out. Jets aren’t that far off.

@@patrickgoulet8170 I would not have thought either of those guys to be a playoff fit. Each have excelled in their careers but Toffoli has really bounced around and this was one stop too many. Monahan was possibly done with his career from injuries and did well enough in Montreal..again each not an answer to playoff hopes.. How much was Coach Bowness the BBC answer for a playoff run.. that was for me the area where I doubted things. He was quite good at taking over for Coach Montgomery in Dallas on short term but ultimately he was polarizing preseason and they moved on from him.

i dont wanna hear that- i hate the jets- actively root for their downfall even for very stupid very petty reasons (several random incidents in games with the dallas stars where ya boys took some hockey liberties and got away with it) - the jets have no right to feel unsure about their future just cause they temporarily feel like the second coming of toronto. yall are better than that have a good goaltender- had rick shore up your defensive planner- which only bodes well for the next guy they bring in as they wont have to overhall the entire defensive playbook, the stars can attest to that.ALSO you have one of the best playoff traditions ever. i might hate their guts but put that down and see the hockey lover within you-and trust theyll find a spark. youre not buffalo or the clipped wings blackhawks, or a yotes fan who had to literally watch your team keep showing sparks of brilliance just to fumble into utah, youre the phoenix. a damn good team that just refuses to leave, you spent sometime in hell (atlanta) and ya came back 3 days later(several years) have some faith and maybe bully the owners into doing better promotions. its no fun kicking a dead puppy i only want to win if everyone is legitimately godtier. and i want everyone to feel the exact same way as i do when you move on in each round. thats how ya get the best hockey. and ultimately i remember that more than i dwell on their limits. dobby didnt beat the bolts- but boy did i believe he could. its magical to feel like that, i remember crying after that brutal bolts win. but thats it- the rest of the memories are of glory- kivi scoring a hatty against the avs, dobby raising his skill to its highest level built in rags to riches narrative- everyone was cheering and happy and in a good mood for like 80% of that run. and i made a song from a qoute in the locker room "were not going home" we eventually did but we were just so happy to have each new day graspin. forget that part- and thats how you become the leafs.

Morrissey needs some help. He’s one of the 10 best defenceman in the league, and on many nights he looks top 5. However it’s a major drop off after that on the Jets blue line. I like the look of all the youth they have coming up front. I realize sheiffele is coming off signing a recent long term extension, but if you’re really looking to change the feel in the locker room, and create cap space, then he’s the guy you gotta move. I also agree on Ehlers. He’s had flashes of short term brilliance over the course of his career, but the reality hasn’t really lived up to the hype for the most part. I think a change of scenery could be beneficial for both parties there. If you can move those two guys out, and bring a couple pieces back to shore up that D, and maybe a couple picks in return, it would be a smart move. Id like to see Winnipeg ice a younger team next year. A group that’s built around Connor, Hallebuyk and Morrissey. Maybe some real hope for the future, instead of continued mediocrity can get the fans excited again. Something just feels stale there. An injection of youth, and some different leaders in that room will be a long term benefit in my opinion. Look at what Dallas is doing right now. They’re rolling with 3, or 4 really young players, who are contributing for them nicely in the playoffs. All of whom they drafted well down the board, and, or got on the cheap from other teams that gave up on them too soon. You always gotta have a few guys on entry level deals contributing, if you hope to stay competitive in the cap era. That means you need to be able to find gems late in the first, or in the second round consistently. That’s what’s worked well for Dallas; and for a small market team, it’s imperative that the Jets keep drafting well, and playing their young guys.

I can't find the quote from after this year's playoffs, but he admitted not changing how his team played over the course of the series, and it showed in how his teams played. Once their opponent figured them out, they lost four straight in back to back years. You can win in the regular season with good players, but you need good coaching to win in the playoffs. And for the record, I parked on Main St, free parking, 10 minute walk to the arena.

He would be a superstar if he didn't throw breakaway passes to the other team, if he found some defensive consistency in his game and played a role in a system rather than wheel around wherever he wants. If he had more than 4 goals in 35+ playoff games, if he wasn't injured every season except this last one, if he made his teammates better. I'd agree with you at that point.

Kings and Jets are a wash between last year's trade. The only positive with the Jets is the fact that they got rid of PLD, and for the life of me, why would Blake and Luc sign him to an extension. As a Kings fan, it didn't resolve issues the year before, especially dealing head-on against the Oilers. It's becoming comical. 😅

And the worst thing is it was a game we shouldn’t of pulled the goalie when the score was 3-1 that was a brutal call by bowness to pull and I do think that was the turning point with the jets. Nonetheless still a great season and I can see us losing to the cup champions for another year running

The problem with the Jets was identified by Rick Bowness last year. Collectively the Jets are as soft as baby poo. They get physically pushed around by any team that decides they want to. The team has a bunch of guys who like to win and not a single soul who hates to lose. No spirit, no heart...no push back, year after year.

Jets’ problem is that they lack star players who can carry the game… They have just one, Helly in the net… Connor is a good goal scorer, but he needs supporting cast. Scheifele is a good second line center at best… Morrissey is very good D, but he isn’t like Makar who can carry the team if needed… Their first line is probably second line at best for most of the PO teams (apart from Boston I guess)… they are just an average player team with a all-stars goalie… I watched all their PO games, and they just couldn’t keep up with the Colorado’s talent… 🤷🏻‍♂️ What they need to do? Well, they need to attract star players… get 1st line center, and a passer to play with Connor. Get a steady def-man. They will probably need to take a shot on some players who don’t perform well and try to turn their careers around… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Almost every team drafts their core players and Jets have drafted only once in the top five in their thirteen drafts and that was when they took Laine behind Auston Matthews. Jets haven't been awful at drafting but not getting multiple picks in the top five really limits your chances of drafting superstar players. First five drafts they drafted Scheifele, Trouba, Morrissey, Ehlers, Kyle Connor in the first round, in those same drafts McKinnon, Barkov, McDavid, Draisaitl all went in the top five.

Thought the Jets were going to the Finals back in 2018; was shocked Vegas brushed them aside so easily (only for Washington to stifle Vegas’ high-octane offense, win handily) The Jets now are very good but not as stalwart as the 2017-18 team and now they’re several years older. It’s up to the Perfetti’s, Vilardi’s, Samberg’s on this edition to keep Winnipeg’s playoff chances continuing. For a 110-pt team, they got ousted like an 85-pt one that snuck in from a weak Division. 🤨

The 2017-18 team had less experience, but had a rock solid blueline and had scoring depth from all four lines. Trading for rental players at the deadline there is like a 90% chance you are throwing away all you trade. The jets wasted a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick for nothing. Teams that constantly make the playoffs and do rental player trades and lose this can be the very reason they do not win the cup. Sure if you win the cup you look smart but the odds are you will not.

@@sameold5050 The team has 3 playoff series wins in his 13 seasons. That's not good enough, in any league. This is a results-based business. Not a "drafting players well" business. He should just be a scout for drafting players. But when it comes to the business of assembling a team, a new set of eyes is needed. The Jets need a GM that will be ruthless when it comes to winning. That means making the hard, but necessary moves to move the team forward. Chevy has not been willing to do that and it's what is holding this team back.

@@pomerlain8924 It's not easy getting top players to come to Winnipeg (or many Canadian teams). It's getting worse & Winnipeg (and Calgary) seem to be very undesirable places. Monahan & Toffoli, well done by Chevy getting them here without giving up any players off the roster. Maybe Monahan will re-sign, I'm doubtful though. Hopefully they can bring in a great coach & not promote Arniel. When over 25% of season ticket holders don't re-new, that is very troubling.

@@sameold5050 lol I love that response. No one hates Winnipeg, actually a lot of players like it because most players are close to home instead of being on the opposite side of the continent from home. Also Cheveldayoff is terrible I was just being easy on him. I was a Thrashers fan and I followed the team to Winnipeg, since I no longer follow them instead I’m a Buffalo fan now. But with that said he’s been there since 2011, that’s the longest tenure in the league currently. He hasn’t done anything. I agree he should go back to scouting like he did for Chicago before being hired in Winnipeg. The roster needs to be overhauled, they need to bring in a player with experience. Maybe someone like Pat Maroon. Cheveldayoff won’t do that instead he’ll bring a guy in like Alex Newhook and act like that is going to solve the veteran presence in that locker room. I’ll give him that he finally moved Wheeler because mainly I hate that man with every gut in my body lol🤣.

@@Zach3ry Look, if you think people like Shitterpeg,Manitoilet you're nuts. It's undesirable for many reasons. For over half a century there has been a net migration of people from Manitoba to other provinces. It's hard to attract & retain people that have other options of places to live/work. Any GM would have a difficult task building a top contending team here. A rebuild (like other markets can), nope. Chevy has done quite well considering this task. Unfortunately, the Jets tend to look like contenders but they fall short in the playoffs. Pat Maroon won't solve this. And he didn't move Wheeler, he signed with the Rangers.

It doesn't matter the players he picks in the draft or if he wins a trade in July. Outside of 2018, he hasn't assembled a team that's built to win in the postseason.
