He ended up selling his card not too long ago.

I prefer the TCG ("censored") Mystic Tomato more. But what pisses me off is that a few months ago they released Mystic Potato (22 years after Tomato), and they didn't make the TCG art consistent with the the TCG Tomato! They left it as is, which looks like the OCG ("uncensored") Tomato!

The deal with Spell Card: "Monster Reborn" is that Konami goes through phases of making cards based on moments from the anime. Usually they're upgraded versions of monsters the characters used with the names of their anime attacks added like Kaiser Glider - Golden Burst. Spell Card: "Monster Reborn" is referencing the duel between Yugi and Arkana when they're both chaining effects to each other's cards and they both revive the other's Dark Magician.

Spell Card: Monster Reborn is not strictly worst than Monster Reborn for exactly one reason. Its a Quick-Play, so if your opponent plays Monster Reborn, you can respond to it with Spell Card: Monster Reborn targeting the same monster And you are the one that ends up with it.

Spell Card Monster Reborn is a call back to the anime when Yugi activated Monster Reborn during the Battle Phase. Something that you cannot do in the game. Spell Card Monster Reborn is a "Quick Effect" so it can be activated during the Battle Phase

For Kyle's information regarding the first card: Yu-Gi-Oh! players would happily pay half their total life points to get that effect. Knowing for a fact of how to not trip and fall into a rake pit turn 3 is worth that. Besides that, anyone ever tell you guys you're a complete joy? because you are.

Tyler's wish was to have himself be on a yugioh card and Konami obliged and made this one of a kind, no reprint, special card. Tyler survived his illness and recently(?) he auctioned off his card for thousands of dollars because either he desperately needed the money or needed the money to start his business. My memory's foggy. Was a huge deal when he decided to do it

the secret behind mystic tomato getting new artwork for the tcg release while mystic potato just kept the ocg art is that tcg mystic tomato was first printed in 2002, while mystic potato's tcg print is from _earlier this year_ the last part of the quiz demonstrates what's happened in that 22 year gap pretty well, as not only has the lingering remnants of the satanic panic and the subsequent soft ban on religious iconography in children's media faded away, but the _massive_ expansion of the internet has made it completely effortless to learn of the changes made during the localization of the franchise. hell, the tcg has actually flat-out released "lost art promotions" that are reprints of various notable cards ( including _multiple_ reprints of dark magician girl ) that feature the uncensored art, so the concept isn't even limited to yugioh nerds. so in the end, the reference isn't actually lost on the vast majority of people familiar with mystic tomato, and while coming up with special tcg art for the potato could've been a cute touch that took the reference even further, it also probably would've have gone over that well with peeps who aren't fond of the tcg tomato. and, most importantly, mystic potato ... is complete packfiller, and it only gets _that_ honor because of the game's practice of bundling promo cards from other regions into packs. little dude is a card you got _for free_ with your monthly copy of v jump! it's not some major nostalgia bait to be pushed as hard as possible, it's just a cute callback to a notable old school card

The mystic potato thing does make some kind of sense, because mystic tomato is a very old card when Konami was more conscious of religious subtext and the like, so they censored it (...for some reason). Mystic Potato is way more recent, I think it's like a year old card, and at this point Konami is way more lax with censorship so they just didn't bother censoring it. The issue now is that we don't have the original art of mystic tomato (ever since they stopped caring they've been porting the original arts of some of the old cards) in the TCG so we have these disjointed artstyles

If you notice, the original uncensored name for "mystic tomato" is actually "killer tomato". This kind of treatment is incredibly common, as any words even slightly considered offensive such as "death", "blood", or any variation of "kill" are changed in the TCG. If you see a card that has a word in their name that looks out of place or seems like a strange inclusion, chances are it's a TCG change.

to negate the special summon of a monster within a chainlink you need to negate the entire chainlink anyway. (so the card would just do nothing anyway) the reason for this card text to exist like that is, that it may not be possible anymore to special summon the monster, because after activating a card you can activate other cards, not only cards that directly negate the activation. so if a trap card says, nobody can special summon that gets chained to monster reborn reborn, the opponent would chose a monster, but the monster cant get special summoned and because it doesnt special summon the other monsters dont get banished. the same can happen if your field got filled by cards like ojama trio and you simply cant special summon an additional monster because no space left.

It's very much so a legally distinct super Saiyan version of what the kid drew up as their future self. The owner actually ended up selling it only recently and put most of the money directly back into charity. It's actually a very famous card even outside of Yu-Gi-Oh circles

Ultra Athletes are the closest you’re going to get to building a football themed deck in Yu-Gi-Oh. Cardfight Vanguard on the other hand has Spike Brothers and the Diabolos. Entirely football themed.

Firstly the english art of mystic tomato is clearly supperior, seccondly U.A's are sort of a football arctype.

Oh, and Spell Card: "Monster Reborn" is literally an anime moment from one of yugi's duels with kaiba (the battle city finals). Hence why it's called that - as it's the direct quote (art is a recreation of that moment). Kaiba has a similar "Spell Card:" card that recreates one of his anime moments.

Japanese Mystic Tomato's name appears to be "Killer Tomato". I guess the 'killer' part was too insensitive for localizers and changed it to 'mystic' along with the card art to differentiate it?
