I really can't see this franchise lasting much longer beyond this particularly entry. Every single DICE game since Battlefield 4 has launched in a miserable state and the fact that Battlefield 2042 isn't even salvageable after 2 years of updates is the straw to break the camel's back I think. It'd be a miracle if the next Battlefield game met any baseline for expectations either critically or commercially.

Just FYI when it comes to the general gunplay feeling shit. A lot of it is due to the fact that the mouse/controller input are still bugged to this day so your sensitivity can change mid gunfight. With the recent patch, they even re-introduced a separate previously fixed recoil bug that affects most guns.

I am baffled COD CW realized that "Hey, different teams should have different operators" yet somehow this game didn't. At this point it seems them porting Battlefield 1943 (the 360/PS3 digital download only game.) to PC would have been better but of course they shut that game down instead.

You're right about the keyboard annoyances when starting up a game. I always have to check it. Annoyingly enough it's not always clear if the setup will be right or wrong. In old games (around 2000 or a little later) the keys were linked to the letters. So my azerty-layout always needed adjustment for at least z and q, but often for some other keys as well. Some later games (2008-2014 or so, I haven't played that many games after that time) could sometimes detect the keyboard though, or perhaps the configuration was linked to the place of keys rather thanj their value. So it's always confusing, but I defiitely need to check to make sure it's okay.

This game really is the whole AAA industry in a nutshell. According to a quick google search, it apparently cost a ridiculous $2 billion to make, and somehow came out broken at launch and needed 2 whole years of updates just to be playable. Even with all the micro transactions and battle passes and what not the game still didn't meet sales expectations because of how ludicrously costly it was to make.

For the story contrast, It's like Starship troopers. The world was dark and giddy but the soldiers were like punk boys or something.

Surprised you didnt mention the choppers, they make the Apache from BF4 look like a paper toy, its not uncommon to see a chopper pilot with 100+ kills in 1 game with 0 deaths farming infantry, with an almosy infinite amount of flares

In Killzone 2 and Garden Warfare your health only regenerated 50% so only through healers could you regain 100% health. I think they should have done something like that in 2042.

I played a lot of it when it was free on PS+ about a year ago and had a lot of fun. There is a lot to dislike in the GAAS aspects of it, but the game itself it really good, now that it's actually mostly functional. I won't hate on it.

I think you lost your way with this review, while i agree with the majority of your points i felt that i was being told things i already knew tbh, i bought this for 5 dollars last year, i played the beta and went nope, im out. However ive tried season 7 and 6 previously and tbh honest despite the glaring flaws this game has gone through from the drawing board until now ive had small reminders while playing of what battlefield used to be. I play this to literally take my brain out and shoot stuff and play the objective, also lately ive noticed a few games where the tickets have really come down to the wire! which is great because you dont know which way the battles gonna swing. Despite all that i enjoyed your video it was good. Perhaps you could do a video with reasons why you should play this? after all the players make the experience, its easy to hate these days its harder to be positive. While i dont LOVE this game! its still got something to it and battlefield is still there underneath the rubble somewhere here, and in my experience it shows itself in the really close matches.

This just looks like a haphazardly cobbled together playground, instead of a combined arms military game. Then again, every Battlefield since Hardline seemed like that too.

Pretty sad to see EA ditch Bad Company 2, a way greater game, but of course they have no problem mooching off of its success and trying to get people to play 2042 by marketing to nostalgia with the Portal mode. Portal mode was the best thing about 2042, and it was basically a glorified demo for the real Battlefield games.

Season 7 added visual recoil and that messed up gunplay mostly and RUSH game mode is in game, but yeah the game has had too little new content and most big updates come with new bugs.

The gun play is awful same as pretty much every map they don't play well. I load the game up and go why play when bf5,bf1 and battlefront is better. Shame the player base ent that big anymore and what happened to platoons?

I think most of us agree with you about being dumped into the action upon first boot instead of going to the menu to adjust options. However, the reason they do this is because menu options may be too overwhelming or confusing or off-putting for many casual or newbie players which could be a significant chunk of the consumers of certain mainstream titles. That certainly doesn't apply to you or I, but we are seasoned and savvy, and of course these big budget AAA console games, such as Battlefield, are not necessarily built and marketed to our kind. I wish that practice would burn in a fire, but I just wanted to share some insight into why that abomination of design exists.

It's worth it on sale if you've never played

I agree, this game is still a far cry from earlier, better Battlefields and I don't have much hope for the next installment if EA doesn't pull DICE from it and give the franchise to somebody else. Even the so called class system is only half assed, because every Specialist can still use every weapon and isn't restricted like in the previous games. The maps are still bad and way too open, there is no proper city map, the vehicle limit is way too strict for the amount of players in a match and the only good thing about this game is Portal mode.

Bf 2042 is just a game that feels so lost in what it wants to be. It's not a battlefield game since it basically takes most of its identity with only a few mechanics that resembles bf. The other mode don't really have much to it since portal is just okay and the hazard zone was completely abandoned. The specialist are bare bones with most with pretty useless abilities with a few of them being the better option. It's just a game lost in what it wants to be

2042 is now days a decent game, its not great, its not terrible, its just ok. if it was you first battlefield and you started with it recently, i would say you could have done better choosing the starting game, but i could see why some one would like it. There are a lot of good ideas in it, held down by shitty decisions around monetization, update style changing to a live service game, abandoning all the good ideas that were tried in past game in an effort to reboot the franchise form BF5 and having a large amount of veteran dev´s leave before the game. The game just feels... standard. it looks fine, it has the same type of cosmetics spam that most current live service games have, it plays like old battlefield, all the stupid shitty gunplay features included, now just having even more weird and obfuscated meters and green texts telling them instead of having just numbers to show what does what, welcome to modern gaming i guess, don´t want the players to be "confused" about big numbers. in the end, 2042 feels soulless, it has nothing it does terribly where i could go and say "this was a terrible idea, who was the idiot that came up with this", especially after the launch´s stupidity has been mostly fixed these days, but nor does it have anything that really makes me think " i hope they keep this mechanic, i use it all the time and it really improves my gameplay experience". Its the most fine BF title currently on the market and thus, has nothing really to sell someone on why they should play it instead of any older BF.

"medic is useless because you have auto-heal" is such braindead statement. It's like saying "why use 3rd gear in my car if first gear works just fine!" Healing is incredibly strong, so are the revives for the whole team. You have to be blind to not see that. "guns are bad at start" - while some guns do benefit from some attachments which unlock after around 300 kills, starter guns like PBX, M5 are VERY strong and work just fine. Git gud. "High Power ammo does more dmg" - incredibly stupid statement that shows how ignorant you are. HP has better damage fall off, not higher damage. I guess throwing such buzzwords as PTFO, TEAMWORK is more important that undestanding how guns work in a FPS game, right? While you are right about gunplay feeling bad (or rather unintuitive), you actually have to be so bad to not notice how accurate most guns are. SMGs can easlily kill up to 60-80m depending on a gun, ARs can go even beyond that. And speaking broadly, while there are some stronger weapons, most guns can be used with great outcome. "OMG IT'S ANOTHER COD CLONE!!!!1!" - it's really sicking to hear this again and again. CoD and BF have VERY different gameplay loops in regarding to infantry gameplay. Once again, it seems nostalgia about TEAMWORK and BF2 is blinding and more important that undestanding how games work and play.

Battlefield was always like that, the guns are inaccurate and the shotguns go very far, they should've give us more visual/sight recoil instead of random cone spread, it feels like the gun's barrel is made of rubber or gelatin
