Another Onan DJC

2 жыл бұрынIt has been a while since the last time I dragged an Onan home, but today was the day to add another Onan DJC to the collection. This DJC was being sold locally and is in good condition. The DJC was made in October 1980 and produces 12 kw at 120/240 vac single phase (perfect for residential homes). The hours on the set is unknown, but I'm sure it has its share of use over the years. This DJC was kept indoors as it has no rust unlike those that live their life in a doghouse outside.
After I got the genset home and doing a quick assessment as well as a couple of minor tweaks, I hooked up an electric fuel pump and a battery and it started without any problems.
This video shows where I got the genset as well as it's first startup in over a year.

Great vid! i have the same DJC. I had it now about 25 years. This unit is a beast! The only thing i had to replace was the start solenoid and a glow plug. Other than it being so loud, it has been an amazing unit.

What monster battery did you use…? I have the two banger….but haven’t started it since purchased

I bought a 140-1907 air filter for a DJC. It replaces the 140-0636 air filter. The service manual does not specify maintenance on this filter. It is a metal frame with a removable foam element. Does this element need to be treated with oil? If so, what type? 30 Wt motor oil or special air filter oil? Also, the ball joint on the governor linkage that connects to the throttle was broken and has to be replaced. Is the number of turns the linkage is screwed into the ball joint critical? Will the governor require readjustment? Will appreciate any insight I can get here.

I'm Javier and I'm a firefighter in Puerto Rico. I need to know if any cable comes out of the panel for the starter. since it does not have the cables to connect to the battery. How can I communicate with you?

I bought a 12 djc a week ago. but I need the 2 screws for the generator cover and the cover for the electricity cables that come out of the generator. I haven't turned it on yet. thanks for the video where you light one from the beginning.

Most likely your problem is the automatic voltage regulator if your JC uses a YD generator end. Where are you located?

@@jaytank31 Yes, with slight modification. Google "sx460 AVR". They are cheap in price, made in China, but work very well. The sx460 is not a direct drop in swap with the OEM AVR, but is very easy to adapt. Many on the Onan Smokstak forum including myself have done this modification.
