Every foster parent should have to watch this video. You should do classes at foster agencies around the country. No one explained why we couldn't cut hair when we fostered, they just said we couldn't. Also, most foster parents think they can love trauma away but there is much more to it. Your background has really prepared you for this. Thank you for helping these kids.

Even children who have both parents, married… get trauma. Most folks don’t survive childhood without some painful lessons… or battle scars at least mentally if not physically. The key is learning how to discern who is truly helpful and effective in wanting the best for you - who is not willing to accept any less? Once you learn to identify those people, you can feel their love and learn to return it or pay that support forward. Love the idea of fosters simply extending the family and leaning on extensions when we need them because it takes a village.

What a great Q&A!!! I really respect your views on fostering and on valuing children. My husband and I fostered and adopted our (now 12 year old) daughter 7 years ago, then fostered her newborn sister 2 years ago for a few months. Prior to fostering we were told by so many people not to give the foster child our whole heart because it will be broken if they leave. That is SUCH boloney!!!! I am an adult and I can heal, they are children who have been through SO much, they need our whole heart!! Thank you for sharing what fostering is really all about. ❤

I love your videos! I was put with a family at 17 and was there until I was 20 and moved out. It was really difficult for me to go through and I haven’t spoken to my biological parents for 11 years now. Fostering is incredible and it’s something I would like to do some day when I’m more financially stable ❤

In NC it's mandatory for children to be enrolled in school and preschool for foster children so there is a check and balance.

Peter, you mentioned most of the kids you take in are white kids...do you find that "white" families have more family issues when it comes to dealing with kids, VS other nationalities, where they more or less take care of their own? I'm not part of the foster system, but its always seemed to me like other nationalities jump in and just take in someone else's kids if they're having problems, where it does seem like white families seem to just turn their backs...using the they're not my kids who cares mentality, rather than stepping up and just taking care of the kids until their parents are ready to take them back....I think it would be a much better solution, if a friend, relative, or neighbor could take the kids in until the parents get things straightened out, and leave the foster system for there are no other options type situations...what is your take on something like that? You also mentioned that you had a Native American child at one point, would really be interesting to see some of the different cultural things these kids get to be involved in, if that is possible.

💢Hi Peter! I've been wanting to tell you something for weeks! A few weeks ago, I woke up in the night and for some reason you vcame to my mind quite clearly. I'd been angry at your father the previous evening, so I believe the Lord wanted me to see something and also, to share it with you.i saw it very clearly. The Lord showed me that from the time almost, of your birth, your father was jealous of you! Unseemly and insane as this is, it is the case of another brother in Christ whom I know too, who suffered physical, verbal and emotional abuse like you (though I don't think the physical abuse was quite so bad, but bad.) Your father saw the great love your Mom felt as she held you to her breast, smiling at you and just loving on you. You were quite special and it showed; your dad hated you for the bond that he perceived she and you had; which bond, he knew he could never share.) Rather than tell himself, "Hey, he's *my* son too!" And try and overcome his hatred and jealousy; being a drinker, he just let it mount up. Every day he saw you, filled him with rage; demons had entered him, and he began to abuse you outwardly and within, in the latter case, by belittling you and trying to make you feel worthless and rejected. Long before you ran away, you were living with a literal devil who likely (as I've heard you say,) would have murdered you. Your father was swallowed up of the devil: he was literally a demon, and that demons" goal was to kill you, steal your joy, and inheritance in God, and leave you a destroyed wreck to roam earth *until* he could kill you. But jealousy is how it began Peter. I saw it all so clearly, as I sat up in bed, in the night. It wasn't any fault with YOU! The exact opposite! It was jealousy in extreme.
