Those were the foster parents, not his biological mother. Then Zay lived with Peter as a foster child for about 1 or 2 yrs. Peter wanted to adopt Zay, but unfortunately he decided to go & live with his biological family. But now he’s back, so awesome!

I appreciate that you let him back in even after he aged out and don't get paid to take care of him. You care about him as a person and not just a job. That means a lot to a person to have a stable family to rely on or stable friends to depend on. When you have lifelong relationships, you have someone there for you when you need them too.

Sometimes I think older teens and young adults are more in need of parental care and love than younger kids. At that age, they are physically and legally able to navigate the world as adults. But, as those of us who are parents know very well, mentally and emotionally most of them are not ready to be fully on their own. They are more at risk of making bad decisions and suffering the consequences. Bravo to Peter for recognizing this.

You are the real example of a father. One who gives an identity, a safe place with no condemnation, just a launch pad from which to go into the world. Welcome back Zay and blessings/appreciation for such a loving dad! It is wonderful that Zay has the option to return to this loving home as so many others don’t have that option. I am delighted for all of you - even the dogs who clearly were also happy to welcome Zay with their special doggie love. Your new bedroom with new mattress looks very comfortable. Its so common for kids to turn 18 and leave home, either by choice or by being told to leave, most aren't ready and they struggle, and fail....and there are a lot of parents out there who don't care, they're just happy to get the kid out of the house, and don't want them to come back, so the kid struggles, fails, ends up on the streets, and doesn't have any sort of support from anybody. Once the kid no longer is a means of a tax break for the parent, the parents don't want them anymore....just because they turn 18 and graduate high school doesn't mean they're ready for the world....and that is the parent's fault for not guiding them and helping them along the way to be more prepared. I've helped a lot of kids over the years, a few of them still come by occasionally, some of them come "home" when things go wrong, and they know they're always welcome at my house, and they know I'll always help them....they ain't even my kids, its just their parents don't care enough about them to be there to support them when things aren't going well....the kids know they've got a place to go, and someone who cares about them, that's the biggest thing....sure you encourage them to go out on their own and start their own lives, but you always make sure they know they can come home if things aren't working out.

This is such an important time in a young person's life.. it's the lift off stage to adulthood and a decent life. Glad you're there for this young man. He'll remember this his entire life. Just the way you do Peter when you were so young and the help you received. I hope one day we can meet your life changing Angel you speak of often. I hope he's doing well.. 🙏

You definitely want to help them learn those basic life skills. In this case Zay needs to save some money as well, so maybe have him pay for his phone and once he has a job have him chip in a bit for groceries and utilities. Then when he's ready to get his own place he'll have a little credit history and can show that he can be responsible.

It seems to me that Zay can "handle" kids really well, and the kids adore him. "Handle", this sounds horrible, I mean: how he interacts with children is really cool, so natural, witty, caring, funny, and letting them do things, he has good ideas, is so spontaneous. But comforting, like a "rock", as well. - Who knows, maybe he will work with kids one day, directly or indirectly. Or get a qualification into that direction. I am convinced that he is intelligent, and maybe he would even like to study something. Anyway, he is impressing. - Interesting (and not astonishing): that Anthony, of course, too, is very good at "handling" the kids. And deeply kind and thoughtful Isabella, and the slightly younger, so bright and sparkling brother, and even the little one (wanting to help, so cute). - There seems really to be a specially "caring mood" (combined with a high sense of humour, so important, the laughter) in your little community i.e. family. (I grew up in a patchwork family, without a mom, I was raised from 5 ys on by my dad (and lots of other people ("it takes a village"), I had so many different temporary siblings), this was so unusal at the time (in Germany), fifty years ago, and those skills (caring for each other without being tied together by biological bonds)) are so great in your later life. If you have good people around, like you, Peter. Intelligent, caring, good at heart, determined, funny, witty, so modest a.s.o. You're one of a kind. Great. - Hugs from Switzerland. Su

Family love in abundance! Love how the little ones flock to Zay for his sweetness and warmth. And then with Anthony, they're like happy to see each other but did a shy bro hug. They easily bonded when Zay brought out the game console though.😂 Hope we see a cooking video again with the kids! That's always fun😊 Really good of you, Peter, to help Zay become more stable. Praying he does finish college, find work, save up, and then find his place with darling Maddie. We believe in you, Zay! You have all the support you need in reaching your dreams. You have surpassed many tests in life, just remain strong as you have always been and you will go as far as your perseverance and effort takes you!

Welcome back Zay! Those of us here missed you and Maddie as well. This so wonderful that all of them get to experience what it is like for older kids to grow up, move away and come back for awhile. It fives them a continuance of family even as adults.

I love your family, Peter. Zay and Anthony are so good and patient with the little kids. The 20’s are the time to explore different hobbies and jobs to see what you like. I hope Zay and Maddy can do post secondary studies too. Anyway, good to see Zay! ❤️🇨🇦🙏

Yay! We'll get to see Zay more and his sweet interactions with the kids who just adore him. What a great big brother he is! 🤗 He's really good with the littles. Also I totally relate to needing support even as you're learning to leave the nest and establishing your new nest! It's so important, so I'm glad you have each other, Peter and Zay!

🌍✌️You're my favorite Dad, fatherhood is just as hard as motherhood. You're doing great. I call teens that are becoming adults pre-adults because they're still learning about the real world and how much responsibility they will have when they're on their own. So I love you for having a good mind and heart to love more than just yourself 💖 We need more men like you in this world.
