Widely regarded as the greatest Offensive Lineman of all time, Anthony Munoz revolutionized the Left Tackle position with his enormous size and refined kickset. His signature wide stance for pass protection (which is now common place in the league) coupled with incredible athleticism in the run game allowed him to dominate the league for a decade, blocking for 2 MVPs and accruing myriad accolades in the process.

The 1985 bears defense had one player who was the most feared of all. He was edge rusher Richard dent and was considered the hottest edge rusher in the league immediately. Besides being voted All pro for 1985 he also had the really unique honor of being named super bowl MVP in the bears only modern super bowl championship. With the super bowl finished he was on top of the world it seemed like nobody could stop him. Then he went to the pro bowl where the tackle on the other side from him was somebody he had never met named Anthony Munoz. After the game at the press conference a journalist asked him to give his assessment of Anthony Munoz. Richard dent shook his head slightly and said " I couldn't do anything with that guy"

He was so unique. He played baseball (I think he was a pitcher) for USC in college while playing football. He supposedly ran 5 or miles a day. That is unheard of for a linemen today. His technique and body positioning is perfect. I wish I was able to watch him live.

When you watch highlights of a high school OL you see this kind of dominance against players that are smaller and less talented; the talent gap is what is so striking. Munoz is doing this to PRO DL. Individually each of these characteristics- balance, offensive punch, and footwork- could make someone an All- Pro. Dude has all three plus hand placement and smarts. Universal GOAT as hands down as LT, Brady, Deion, and Rice.

Munoz singlehandedly moved the left side of the Steel Curtain backward while giving Cincy QBs Anderson and Esiason that vital extra microsecond to find and hit the open receiver. Kenny was top QB in the NFL in '74 and '75, and then, with the addition of Munoz, he returned as best QB in the NFL in 1981 and 1982, his ratings even higher than the previous 2. Having Munoz on the left (or "blind" side) of the offensive line meant a world of comfort to a traditional (no back-pedaling, no shotgun formation) drop-back right-hander like Anderson. After connecting on his 1st 7 passes of a Monday night game in '83, Ken's fortunes were changed by a Steeler lineman who came at him full-tilt with a brutal, neck-twisting face-mask tackle--from the right side of the line. Next year, the Bengals brought in a new coach (Ken's 6th), who favored youth and speed over accomplishment and experience. The Bengals could have used Ken's cool accuracy in a Super Bowl rematch ('89).

The person that uploaded the video and others commenting on here have forgotten to mention that he made the NFL's 75th Anniversary All-TIme Team alongside fellow great offensive linemen John Hannah, Gene Upshaw, Mike Webster, and others. This is a greater individual accomplishment than the all-pro selections. Here, he was measured against the best in NFL history up until 1994.

@piggy8761
@piggy8761 6 ай бұрын
Good question I wonder about that too U could ask boomer on his radio show that haha but I’d say If you take Munoz out of the LT position, which rarely gets help from right end, you’re replacing him with someone else. Even if Boomer was left handed, it’s still gonna be a HUGE downgrade. You boost the right, but hurt the left. When they talked on wfan about taking the RT and moving him to the LT they both said it’s not as simple as it seems Around 1:00 of this video -> kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fr-SjNeY0tnLh58.htmlsi=KCAqCZh7Fo7ZDTJc
