Amazing! I took lessons from Anthony about 20 years ago. Only played for a couple years then gave up. I just picked the bass back up a couple months ago and this video just saved me a whole lot of time and headaches. Thank you Anthony! Picking the bass back up years later really shows me how much I was able to learn from you.

I just came upon this video and saw Anthony talking about he responds to people, and I have to say a couple years ago I sent an email to his website to ask him where to find those hair ties that he and Victor play on their basses. Anthony actually responded back to me within a couple of hours. My jaw dropped I never expected him to actually respond I expected either no response or someone from the website to hit me back, he seems like a genuinely nice guy and just really authentic so I get what he is saying about being a nice person because that's what people are going to remember him for - he's definitely one of the best players and teachers in the world but also a genuine good dude as well!

The BEST learning moment and music lesson I've ever had. I understand music theory but heavily struggle with it. I've been playing instruments and making music for over 20yrs. New to really playing BASS in the last 2yrs. I play piano very well and could never remember the modes by name though I can play them all by ear. I now have it in my mind, so no matter what instrument I pick up, I now know what I'm doing. THANK YOU Anthony Wellington and Fodera Guitars.

I watched this video. I made sure to memorize the pattern (Whole Step - Whole Step - Whole Step, Whole Step - Whole Step - Whole Step, Whole Step - Whole Step - Whole Step, 12-4, 12-4, 1-34, 1-34), but other than that, I just kind of let the video go over my head. I watched another video, which covered moving scales up and down the neck on a 4-string. He started off with 1 octave scale shapes starting on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th fingers on the third or fourth string, and one last shape starting on the second string to tie them together. Then he expanded each of those shapes from a single octave, to every note you can hit in that scale position. I started practicing based on that lesson, and you know what I found myself saying to myself? "2-4, 12-4, 1-34, Whole Step - Whole Step - Whole Step." The lesson in this video has stuck with me.
@ekess123
@ekess123 8 ай бұрын
Sure but in this video he says whole step - whole step, which is essentially from 5 to 7 (one whole step) - from 7 to 9 (one whole step) being 2 whole steps in total not three like you mentioning.

I am a piano player, but play guitar and bass as well... modes are really simple, but people make them complicated starting with the Greek names. they are simply derived from one scale where you create other scales by starting on different notes in that scale but remaining within the notes of the original scale. Jazz musicians use them to improvise, some do not agree with modes because its just playing scales and not truly improvising. Rather, improvise in the actual chord that you are in. Anthony explains it simply from a modal perspective. I agree also tabs are bad, and some argue simple modes for guitar and bass limit your understanding of music. Anthony certainly knows music. But I believe learning all this in perspective and relation to music theory is essential to become a master of your instruments. Don’t turn away knowledge if it makes you understand. Only if it cripples your ability to understand by over simplifying.

Anthony You should have your own basic classes on the web.Explaining Basic concepts like that showing this kind or clear points of view would beinvaluable tool.Showing a pupil making mistakes like this one would be a very effective way of teaching too.We all know that your are and awesome bass player but I did not know that you were so good teacher !I feel that you love playing over anything else but now I know that the second thing you love is TEACHING !It is a blessing to find people like you that after all your years of effort learninghas understood that EGO has no Value !Share and enjoy sharing is what you do and where you enjoy most.Exactly like kids do playing and sharing with other kids !thanks for your giving !

Good lesson. I see this grid as a 3 Octave... 1st finger start ... Mixolydian mode fingering, for one position, on a 7 string bass. To expand on this a student should also work on 2nd finger positional start, and 4th finger positional start, and using the same formula Anthony has used for this lesson.example.... for 2nd finger start the grid would be 24 124 134 134 ww ww ww .....for 4th finger start it would be 4 124 124 134 134 ww ww

A nice way to memorize the patterns for the modes of the major scale.......but i see some problems with this, first problems there are lots of diferent scales and modes not just major, second, this way you memorize the fingering patterns for bass, but you dont know where to play all those modes and you dont know why are those modes formed, its not musically oriented, i see it more as a trick to memorize fingering patterns for major scale, than a really usefull tool, you can not improvise thinking that way, its my humble opinion, i know Anthony its a world renown bassist and im nobody. Thank you.
