There is a fictional universe (Bangtan Universe - BU) that runs through a lot of their MVs and this one is very much BU. You can enjoy the MVs and songs without delving into the BU, but there may be some things that don't make sense or seem out of place without that context, like the snickers. Just know that nothing is an accident and it really DOES make sense. Each member has a particular thing that represents something from their past/fear; you'll start to notice that certain elements always appear with certain members; water, fire, the shipping containers... There is also an extended version of this MV.

You're starting to ask questions about the BU (Bangtan Universe) (Why he is on Snickers, what JK is doing in that room) -- there is a storyline running through a lot of their music videos (basically, an alternate universe). This song is so layered. I think it refers to the need to know and love yourself before you can truly love someone else. You can’t not be true to yourself to make someone else happy. Also the fans fall “in love” with the image they present and this is only a percentage of who they really are and how they think of themselves.

It’s crazy that all the scenes they filmed are real and no green screen or CGI, like they really blew up the windows while Jin was in there and started a fire while suga sat in a chair 💀

Or is it about false self-love, when you seem to love yourself, but in fact you are your own main enemy and always put others, often strangers, first. or maybe this is a song about romantic love when they don’t love you. or you yourself don’t love, but remain in a relationship... a universal song. There's a silent greatness to Namjoon...a calm yet strong charisma that draws people to him, whether they'd like to admit it or not. Once you really go in depth into understanding him and his music,you will eventually see how special of a human being he is.

Anthony I think at this point you'd really enjoy exploring the fictitious storyline in BTS mvs aka the BU (Fake Love is a part of it, and the Snickers are connected to the story). You don't have to, but since you like to especulate and try to undertand the meaning of their works I think you'd really like it. You're so good at grasping meanings, so it'd be really fun. If you ever decide to give it a chance, it starts on the mv for "I Need U (original version)", then it continues with the "on stage prologue" video, then the mv for "Run", then "Epilogue: Young Forever" mv. I mean you'll watch the mvs anyways, since you said you wanna check out their whole catalogue, so I guess might as well do it in the storyline order? Whatever you decide, have fun haha

“Why is he lying on Snickers?” *Bangtan Universe analysts and theorists crawling out of the woodwork*: WELL YOU SEE- (Actually BU discussion & spoilers below:) So BTS has this expansive universe that spans over many of their music videos and includes short films, a webtoon, a mobile game, and novellas called “The Notes.” It tells the story of 7 friends (the boys) and how one of them, Seokjin (Jin) becomes trapped in a time loop trying to save his friends from tragic fates over and over and over again. In the storyline, Hoseok (J-Hope) was abandoned at a carnival by his mother when he was a child. She gave him a chocolate bar in front of the carousel, specifically a Snickers, and told him to close his eyes and count to ten, then left him there. So that’s why J-Hope is in a room with carousel parts and then is later lying on Snickers. There’s a lot of BU content in Fake Love but you only asked about the Snickers so I shall refrain from info-dumping any further lol

This mv is in continuation of their storyline. The part of the SNICKER BARS is sad. The character in the room lying in a bed of SNICKER bars was abandoned by his mother as a toddler. The mother took the toddler to an amusement park to spend their last moments together; they even took a picture together. Then, the mother sits the toddler down, has him to cover his eyes and pretends it's a game. She tells the little boy to count while covering his eyes. As he counts, the mother places the photo and a SNICKER bar next to the toddler before she disappears out of his life forever. Now, if you look at the room, he has tried to fill the void of his mother's love with the last moments he spent with his mother. BTS' storyline goes all the back to 2014...2015. It's the most well thought out storyline of any kpop group. The Kpop industry knows that storylines draw you in and locks you in that kpop rabbit hole. Lol!

I totally get where you're coming from. This was the first song of theirs I had heard and I was just leaving an emotionally and mentally abusive and manipulative relationship. This song helped me so much it's one of the reasons I love them and their music so much. They're just so honest, genuine, and vulnerable about both the good and the bad that comes with life.

Find all you can on Bangtan Universe. I’m a new Army, just discovered BTS in June of this year, 2021. When I found out about the alternate universe, I started trying to find & watch them all bc @ first I thought, “Why is J-Hope lying on Snickers bars?” It’s all very interesting to find the back stories or alternate universe stories & how all their videos tie into each other. I’m a RN & single mom so I can’t watch a lot all the time but I find it all so intriguing!

This song is in my top 5 BTS songs, I absolutely love it. I have the lyrics "I grew a flower that can't be bloomed in a dream that can't come true" tattooed on my right forearm in the original Korean/hangul. As far as the candy I have seen some ARMY talk about its relation to the BTS Universe but if you aren't ready for all that I think it can be taken pretty simply as metaphors for the feelings we have or unhealthy habits we develop after/during a toxic relationship. The candy = overindulgence. The phones = escaping through social media and the like. The floor falling = feeling like we are collapsing inside. The water = drowning in our sad/unhappy feelings. Opposite being the fire = having explosive feelings like anger. Etc. That all being said, it's a work of art. And any great work of art will say exactly what the artist wants to say while also having room to mean something special/different to the viewer.

12:15 he's lying on Snickers because [BTS Universe Spoiler] his mom took him to an amusement park, gave him a chocolate (probably Snickers) and asked him to count to 10 and find where she'd hidden... she left hobi in the park and never came back (that's why he can't count to 10 properly, the reason he passed out at a highway in I Need U because he developed Narcolepsy due to this. he was also seen taking pills for his Narcolepsy in the same MV). An orphanage/NGO found him and he lived there for around 10 years (until he was like 18) and then he started working at an eatery and attended Dance Classes with Jimin. I dont want to spoil anything furthet but i will answer if u have any such questions :)

Generally I think you d probably enjoy the album LOVE YOURSELF: Tear - you already heard many songs from that album and it seems to be resonating with you. This album is the 2nd one of the album trilogy of LOVE YOURSELF. 1st album (HER) - focuses on the feelign of falling in love and how pink and easy can all look at first. 2nd album (TEAR) - focuses on how toxic love can become without self love and balance (if you remeber the Singuliary song by V, that is the intro to this album), how it can be easy to start losing yourself in loving sb else, and how toxic the outcome can be 3rd album (ANSWER) - is about literally fnding the answer, finding yourself (tho this aspect is more focused on in their next albums), accepting who you are and learning to love who you are . its a celebration of self love.

I absolutely love this song. It does hit hard because it’s so relatable. It’s also fits with the concept of the album. Love yourself: Tear is an album of losing ones self. Being alone, hurt and abandoned. The intro Singularity talks about losing oneself to please another, The Untold Truth talks about wearing a mask to gain the heart of the one they want but that doesn’t work out. 134340 is the coordinates to Pluto. It’s talks about feeling abandoned. How one went from being an important person in their significant lovers life to no one. Just like Pluto went from a whole planet to just another rock in the sky. They never out right say this in the song but being RM named the song the coordinates to Pluto, it’s something you have to put together.🤯. Even Anpanman has a meaning of loneliness. As fun as that song is. (I don’t feel like breaking down who Anpanman is lol, somebody else do it) their giving so much of theirs selves and are asking for nothing in return. Then there’s Tear outro. I know that suga wrote this song for the members when they were thinking of breaking up but they made this song fit the album as well. RM Tear came from a place of bitterness and pain. He used Tear like he was crying. Suga Tear came from a place anger and dare I say cruel. His verse was at times nonchalant wrapped in savage passive aggressive . Trying to hide his pain but failing with every word . He used Tear like something had been torn apart. Jhope verse is acceptance. Yes it hurts. Yes he Fear going forward but going forward he must. Fake Love had a lot to do with loving oneself. The title of this Album is Love Yourself: Tear part 2 of 3 albums. You can’t love anyone if you don’t love yourself first. The lyrics talk about becoming someone for that other person and losing themselves completely. They don’t know who they are nor does the person they were in a relationship with. The verse “I grew a flower that cant be bloomed in a dream that can’t come true” hits right in the heart. How many of us have done something we knew wouldn’t work. We knew better but we wanted it so badly we threw common sense to the wind. Big or small. Sorry for the novel.

I think it’s about ARMY and how they felt they had to show a fake side of themselves in order to be loved. Hiding their pain and making themselves seem like perfect idols. Each aspect is something different. RM was constantly told he was ugly so him looking in the mirror at himself was symbolic, the phones because they’re constantly watched and monitored (plus that’s the only way they can communicate using Weverse) and even the candy bars was symbolic because they have special diets and Jimin would sometimes starve himself to lose weight because people would say was fat and send death threats. At the end, it seems they’re ready to release that and be true to themselves to receive love from ARMY the right way😌
