Vintage Stool Restoration

Metal leg, rusty stool restoration. I found these stools in a friend's lathe workshop. They are very robust and carry the traces of years. I tried to restore them without destroying their scars.

Metal ayaklı, paslı ahşap tabure restorasyon / yenileme. Bu tabureleri, bir arkadaşımın torna atölyesinde buldum. Oldukça sağlamlar ve yılların izlerini taşıyorlar. Bu izleri yok etmeden onu restore etmeye çalıştım.

Awesome! I truly thought that those stools were too far gone to save, especially with that one warped corner! Putting the boards in the water surprised me, but seeing how you could get all that dirt and paint off was mind-blowing! I also thought that using your little pile of sanding dust as filler was genius! I was so surprised to find out the base was metal; and I would have not tried to match the "color" bc wood has the beautiful variation of the grain, whereas the paint on metal lacks that. A black paint on the metal base would be nice, I think. All in all, this was an outstanding job on 2 stools that I thought were beyond help or hope!!! Wow.

I have a similar stool in need of some repair/restoration, although mine has timber legs, so I was particularly interested to see how you would go about restoring the timber seat part 🙂 I got some great ideas from watching this video!

Really nice job. Those stools would work in so many types of homes... country, mid-century, contemporary. Too many people just throw away old things rather than bringing them back to life. The stories those stools could tell. Who knows what conversations they have overheard?
