Passed exam in July for HF side of the hobby. I had zero interest in 2,70 or DMR. Few months on and I’m the proud owner of the Anytone 878, I use it with the MMDVM hotspot and I love it. Still can’t believe how long the battery lasts. Cheers for the video. 73 M7BCN

This is a fantastic beginners radio. It makes all the contacts and has all the settings a newbie would ever need. I use mine for work and it is a tuff mofo. I run a fork lift in a warehouse constantly jumping on and off a lift. My belt clip did break but I replaced it with a Baofeng BF888S belt clip. It'll work until I can get a official replacement. But I give this thing a solid 8 out of 10.

The only issue I’ve had with the 878 Plus, along with a lot of other users, is maintaining the Bluetooth pairing. I’m pretty sure it is a firmware issue. And yes, the battery is HUGE! The radio feels like I’m holding a potato in my hand. There is a 2200maH battery available that really slims the radio down.

1. When a channel is broadcasting does it mute the second channel or can you hear them at the same time? (Single receiver vs. dual receiver) 2. Do VFO A and B contain UHF and VHF or are they limited to UHF or VHF only? 3. In VFO a and b Display mode, how many characters can you see without scrolling? 4. In VFO single Display mode how many characters can you see without scrolling?

I like the Alincos, I've never had any issues with them I've had them 30 years ago, and I bought 2 more within 2019. I also have Yaesu, and Icom. Everyone kinda has their favorites, if they have issues with one they'll hate that brand, it could have been programming issues, cost, warranty, it didn't work/do what they felt it should. I have a few cheap knock-offs as well but we use them for communicating around are property between ourselves. I can go on but you will find everyone has their favorite.

If anyone could way in on an issue I am having with the 878uv I would appreciate it. So I just bought it not long ago, finally was trying to get it up and running and come across an issue. I programmed in some local repeaters in my area, none over 10 miles, and I can not seem to make any contacts. On one of the repeaters about 6.5 miles away, I was able to get the CTC tone and hear it come back. THe status LED light is and has always been on a constant green, which tells me that there is acitivty but I am unable to get anyone. WHen I connect my 878 to my PC and using echolink software connected to the same repeater via DRM node I am able to make contact. I am using a Nagoya NA-320 and I have also tried using the stock anntena.

4:55 Roaming doesn't find repeaters based on GPS coordinates. It will look in the CPS for channels you marked as roaming and try those to see which has the best signal. If you're mobile and have enough programmed in, the radio can hop channels and stay on the same talkgroup throughout the journey.

Analog rules! Kenwood TH-D72 was the last decent analog radio with all the bells and whistles. If you have one, cherish it. They don't make real analogue radios like that anymore. What ever you buy these days, even the better brands like Yaesu, icom, kenwood all work with single chip digital circuitry mimicking analogue. Two HT radios I will always keep are Yaesu FT-60 (one tough, easy to use radio with beautiful sound quality and reception) and Kenwood TH-D72. The rest just comes and goes. Having said that, I am looking into DMR these days, just out of curiosity. I don't care if it has GPS, compass, APRS, bluetooth, wi-fi, color screen etc. For me those are nothing but waste of much limited battery life. What I need is just a decent, well built, simple, dual band DMR which can do local repeaters and access points. Any recommendations?

Belt clip fixes to battery ... I REALLY hate that. I've also heard it isn't Chirp programmable. Also, that the proprietary software only works under MS Windows and can be a little buggy... don't know if that's true, but it seems a bit silly limitation given the ubiquity of Chirp. Others have commented elsewhere that the belt clip is a little shallow for broader belts... and, from the video, it seems to me that the clip looks quite low. Others have also commented that the menu is a little awkward. Otherwise, it seems like decent little radio. I just wish I wouldn't have to clip all my spare batteries... it just costs more, takes up extra space in the bag and is a nuisance. Also - if anything fell from my belt, I'd far rather it was the battery than the radio.

Thanks for your review. It is very bad that they did not put an o-led display on this radio, like on the XIEGU G1M, so that can always watch the information. It was also possible to make a normal s-meter in analog mode. This is probably because the AnyTone company does not have enough radio amateur brains. They are only interested in money.

(Digital Mobile Radio) It’s more technical, but offers a cleaner audio without static, but it only works or doesn’t, no in-between. It also offer digital modes that can send and receive digital packets of data as well as being able to attach to your computer to use with the radio to send email/text messages, etc.

Te better ham radio DMR is a Yaesu radio and YSF2DMR. You don't need programming anything. You will have a radio without bugs not a beta tester's device. Also digital APRS is easier to do.

In my experience, analogue reception is poor (compared to CRT 4CF V2 and even to Baofeng GT-3TP, using the original antennas)! Moreover, it is very annoying that the lowest volume is still too high, and that changing the volume level interrupts the audio. Can't speak about digital capabilities, though - but I will send it back.

That’s weird, I find it much more sensitive on the receive..
@fred-283
@fred-283 2 жыл бұрын
@@HamRadioConcepts Well, I have to correct my statement a bit... Sensitivity is quite okay (not great, though inferior to some other cheap radios, but not by much). BUT: The analogue squelch is way too insensitive, even at the lowest step (step 1)! There are some tricks using "test mode" settings, but this doesn't really improve anything. Weak stations that are still well readable, are blocked by the squelch, whilst radios such as Baofeng GT-3TP open the squelch just fine. I am not the only one who talks about that issue. Of course, if one does not care about weak stations/repeaters and analogue operation, one will not notice a problem. - And as to digital, I cannot say anything bad (because I did not do anything digital yet).

DMR blows for ham radio use. I made the mistake of first getting into it prior to d-star and fusion. The radios suck and the networks suck. The fm receiver in this radio ( I own one ) is terrible. If you simply want to use it for DMR and only DMR with the occasional use for fm, it might be ok, but it doesn’t hold a candle to radios like the ID-51 or the D74. The bundled battery also doesn’t charge anymore. Was purchased back in November 2019. The sound quality and dual slots are irrelevant when everything else about DMR for ham use is a fail.
