Not really. Most people get away with only a bitemark, from a shark attack. When sharks find something they don’t know what is, they bite it to find out. However, it just so happens that sharks don’t actually like human meat, therefore they will often just make a curious bite and then swim off.

@@jacquelinemarie1078 The thing is most humans who are fascinated in this sport only react and make this decision after they encountered such situation. Until then people do not imagine this to happen to them... "as if a shark would appear and attack me". This goes not only for people in this sport, but for everything in our life. Most of the times we prefer to react instead of acting preemptively. Otherwise he would have not started this sport in the first place before that happened. And honestely... I do not blame him... One reason why surfing has always made me nervous to get into, was the fact that when I'm out skateboarding & snowboarding (on groomed runs at least), I won't be dealing with ANY apex predators. But when it comes to hiking, camping, kayaking, diving, surfing, it is a natural RESET BUTTON on your power as a human, and a reminder that you too are just a potential meal for a larger creature.
@Catjuggler
@Catjuggler 2 жыл бұрын
Spot on mate. There's a reason why we have legs and they have fins and bigger teeth. In UK I think we've only technically had one recorded shark attack in British waters and it wasn't even serious. Someone just got their finger bitten. I think it's more River fish, like pike that attack people and that's something that happens only once every so many years. I did surfing once when in Devon and even though it's an amazing experience, the constant thought of something big lurking nearby gave me anxiety, even though it was very unlikely. It's not official, but we do supposedly get great whites in Devon and Cornwall, just as you go through the channel and out into the Atlantic. Same with Greenland sharks on North Coast. I once stayed near John O' Groats with some friends and during time we was up there, on a couple of beaches, each had a washed up seal with big chunks missing. We thought it may of been a Greenland shark or possibly orcas, because we definitely do get orcas.

@@gorilla5089 well as humans were are at the top food chain , however, we humans aren't fish, you get in the water, your food for the creatures living in it , common sense !! @@WahyuPratomo89 we are at the top. We're so 'On Top' we have what we call shark fin soup, and many more. Being on top of the food chain doesn't mean no weaknesses. In our case, our strength lies on our preparation, the technology, and strategy.. our advantage is our mind. When we can use it to the fullest that's where we are the strongest. This is observed in many stages of history.. even on a man vs man scenario those who prepared the best is sure to be the winner.

@@jackvanhove288 funny how you have 15 comments each with 3,000 upvotes saying "Hur dur surfer says he's quitting competition, he smart to value his life" as if there's a precedent that surfers are massively risking their lives everytime they set foot in water. @@jackvanhove288 In most beaches around the world, you're probably more likely to be struck by lightning twice in a row than you are to be bit once in your life by a shark. However there are a lot of great white sharks that propagate the north west and southern coasts of Australia so the odds probably increase substantially over there. But even so, most sharks and particularly great whites never attack humans on purpose as they only attack when they've mistakened someone for a seal, usually they'll bite someone's leg and immediately let go and swim off. Bullsharks on the other hand are a different story, not only can they survive in practically any type of water including Rivers and Lakes, they'll eat you alive and not even leave the bones left over, they're basically like pitbulls of the sea but 100x worse, but don't let this comment section hear about this lol

They give off a strong electromagnetic field or something, cuz I was kayaking and felt a very menacing energy behind me and looked over a short time later and there was a very large bull shark swimming parallel to me and it was there basically for 15 min.
