Yes! I ran into the same issue when I was looking for inspiration. It really pushed me to make something more relatable cause it’s just like you said. There is so much flashy content out there but it’s not the average reality.

Apartment hunting here in chicago is like hunger games lol. Being here my whole life and finally finding something after a year and 10 months of looking. Hoping I get it, its down south since I'm use to living down here but on the beach. And yes, chicago layouts are truly something else. Congratulations!!

Thank you. The market may calm down by August. The fact that you are preparing for a move this early is a great sign of success. I wish you the best with your move! Just hang in there and it will fly by soon enough.

Try the suburbs next time especially if you like the older vintage buildings, lower rent prices and a little bit better availability. Places like Oak Park, Riverside, Skokie come to mind. The city tends to rip you off on a few levels and the demand is so high. Most suburbs have access to Metra if you need to commute to/from the city.

I grow up in the suburbs. There is low action, not a lot to do and for someone with no car I'd rather be close to everything

Am glad someone said it, realtors in Chicago are a bunch of scammers. If you aren’t looking to rent those $3000-4000 apartment, don’t bother using one. I had one realtor from Compass ghost me so much, I had to block him. 😅. Your apartment is beautiful ❤.

Yes! You are right. Honestly not easy finding a good one. At the end of the day it’s a way of living for them to upsell you. Sorry that happened to you. Thank you for sharing

Thanks for this video! Very relatable and useful for me rn. Do you have any comments on transit to U Chicago in Hyde Park from the North Side? Benefits of north side outweigh living somewhere south like Kenwood?
@chismprism
@chismprism Жыл бұрын
Glad this video helped! Traveling north to south like that would probably be a 1hr train ride on the Red Line or a 20-30 min drive. I've never lived on the south side so I can compare them fairly. I will say the north side seems easier to get around without a car and I feel safe as a woman walking around at night. But I know people who stay south and they are fine. Might need to do more research into the neighborhoods.

What do you think the market will be looking like since we are seeing such high interest rates rn? I assume prices will start to drop but just not sure within what time frame
@chismprism
@chismprism Жыл бұрын
Hi! Actually end of Fall/Winter usually has lower prices because people aren’t moving as much. Sometimes you can even get deals, like a month of rent off for example. With that being said it’s few options to pick from but can still be worth it

Which city do u like better and why?
@ShireseLouie
@ShireseLouie Жыл бұрын
@@jf4272 I have only been here a little over a month, it is winter, and I have a knee that makes it hard to get around due to an accident I had a month before coming here (with p/t, I will eventually be fine); it is hard to compare just yet. Also, I am biased. Chicago, being the city I was born and raised in and having lived there until I was 40, I am going to choose it as my favorite city until I die. I know the news shows a lot of negatives about Chicago, but there are a lot of positives, too (summer festivals, the lake, the food, the diversity, the architecture, etc.) Chicago rents are considerably less expensive than Boston's. The cost of living in general is. Right now, I think both places are equal in diversity and food culture. From what I have experienced in Chicago and what I have been reading about Boston, Chicago has a more varied summer festival scene, but Boston's is pretty decent. Chicago's transit network is good; Boston's transit network is excellent. Chicago's architectural scene can't be rivaled. (I have my master's degree in urban planning and notice these things.) Boston and its surroundings have many historical places to visit. (I am a history buff.) I love Chicago's beaches (though not a beach person) and have been to some oceanic beaches in California and Ireland, and an ocean beach does hit differently. I suspect many of Boston's beaches may be better since they sit on an ocean. Boston's cost of living, especially rent (as I said above), is ridiculous. Unlike Chicago, where I lived in Washington State, and Charlottesville, VA (where I lived briefly), Boston usually uses a broker that the renter has to pay. The broker's fee is equivalent to the first month's rent. Then you also will have to pay the actual first month's rent, security deposit, and last month's rent. That means you need to have four months' rent upfront. This whole broker fee crap is a scam! I am sorry that I did not answer your question. I need to be here until summer and be able to move around better to see if Boston penetrates my birth bias. I think it is an amazing city if you can afford it and also feel that people who are more into the nightlife scene than I enjoy those aspects.

I'm originally from LA did some time in Miami and just wanna try something different but I don't too much about the Midwest or the east coast so I just wanted to get a good overall opinion about a city like Chicago or a city on the east coast as far as the people and nightlife and all that? I heard the winters are harsh up there and that's the only thing that I be thinking about

@@ShireseLouie I like the city but I wanna be around my people but I like diversity and also wanted to be around blacks that's not pretentious but authentic as it can get u know wat I'm saying no racist vibes just a thriving city that's on a different time and level of progression and level?
@ShireseLouie
@ShireseLouie Жыл бұрын
@@jf4272 Since I have not been able to venture out much, I can't give an opinion on the racism here. Historocally, it has been said Boston is racist. Both Boston and Chicago have a huge black population. Both have a thriving nightlife as well. When I was in my 20s and 30s in Chicago the nightlife was great, but I have always been more of a bookish nerd than nightlife person. My nieces and nephews back home say the nightlife in Chicago is still great. Chicago bars and clubs stay open well into the wee hours of the morning. I have heard that Boston's nightlife does not. Chicago has colder winters but Boston has more snow.

Wonderful video with excellent practical advice. However, the real little diamond in your video was, to me, your statement to the effect of, "if it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be." Sometimes one thing doesn't happen so that something even better can happen later. I have had that experience so many times in my life. Now, I have a modest two-bedroom/one bath in a safe neighborhood in a desert city almost as far away from Chicago as one can be on this continent. I don't like the city or state I'm in, but this is where God put me many years ago and where people dear to me are. I'd much prefer Chicago, but such is "not meant to be." However, my neighborhood is older and has trees, grass, brick homes - so it all worked out for the best! 😀

That is a beautiful story. You are 100% right when something is meant to be it falls into place. City, suburb, or remote country (where ever you find yourself), as long as you feel safe and happy then you are winning in life. If you desire a change in location then trust your gut and start taking the step toward your goal. I hope that is something others take away as well. Thank you for sharing :)

@@chismprism Hello Chism Prism. Talk about gut! Here's a quick story: I live in Phoenix, a city famous for its cookie-cutter brown-stucco homes, gravel yards, filthy air and half-dead plant life. I had been driving an hour to work every day, and I told myself, "You can do this! It's only an hour of white-knuckle driving twice/day!" My plan was to find some little place in a somewhat greener place when I retired. However, one day, a "little voice" kept yelling in my head that I should put my little 2-bedroom stucco house with almost no yard on the market IMMEDIATELY. I did, and it sold in eight days - but I had only a month to find a place, get financing, close and move. STRESS! I found my current little condo on a marathon one-Saturday search with a realtor. It is somewhat older (1970's), affordable, and in a neighborhood full of grass, miraculously lush trees, and mostly BRICK homes ranging from the 1920's to the 1960's. In fact, it is as much LIKE a Chicagoland suburb as one will ever find in Phoenix. God is good. Always listen to that little voice! Thank you again for your video! And Happy Thanksgiving!
