It's shocking how the episode from series 11 called Hector the Horrid delt with the bullying far better than what apology impossible did 11 years later how is that possible.

The fact that this episode is literally in the same season as an engine of many colors (a episode in which james actually felt bad for his reckless behavior) just makes it worse I feel like the only way the episode could've worked was if they brought vinnie back and used him instead of James

That was well said and Diesel should’ve had James’s role. I do agree the apology doesn’t feel sincere, it’s feels like he only apologized just because he got scolded. James’s apology in Tale Of The Brave feels sincere because well yes in some extent it was because of being scolded by Thomas, but it was still on his own. It is so satisfying that Philip stands up to James and it is so funny that even the Troublesome Trucks were so mad lol. That proves how bad it was.

The Kids Toys Plays version was so much better! In that version the bridge sequence wasn’t a dream but actually happened. STH sends James away. It’s like Kids Toys Play knew those are bad episodes and made them better!

Apology Impossible would have been a much better episode if a genuine villain from the Thomas franchise like Devious Diesel or Vinnie from "The Great Race" would have taken James' place. It's really jarring to have James be a bully to Phillip, especially since the little diesel boxcab had saved him from falling off a bridge in a previous episode, "Phillip to the Rescue". Anyone else getting Sonic the Hedgehog vibes from the fantasy sequence where the engines sink into the water? The music sounds like the drowning music from the games.

There are three ways of fixing this episode: 1: Just replace James with a new steam engine from the mainland who is a bit of a bully (maybe you could even make its basis one of the engines designed by Oliver Bullied) 2: First have it that James was going in reverse when he had his accident near Philip so it’s more plausible that he could think Philip did it and at the end of the episode have James actually face some consequences for his actions 3. If you absolutely have to include the international engines, just have Vinnie come back and fill the role that James plays in this episode. But again have him actually face consequences for his behavior, like being sent away.

I agree with you. This episode is not only my least favourite James, but it's my least favourite episode of the whole show. In my opinion, it's WAY worse than Middle Engine, Skarloey the Brave, Edward Strikes Out and Up, Up and Away! Who else agrees that Vinnie should have been in the episode instead of James?

You pretty much summed it up pretty well. James is a jerk, we have seen it on many occasions before but he always learns his lesson and somewhat mean well. But here, he is just an asshole and had learned nothing or actually feel sorry for how he has been towards Philip or everyone else. In fact I remember something years ago about a comment I heard someone said about this episode. Now, this was years ago mind you, so take this with a pinch of salt. I vaguely remember that someone once made a comment saying something about "James *& Philip* being out of character." James is 100% being out of character in that episode, no doubt about it. BUT PHILIP?! So apparently standing up against bullies is a bad thing! Again this is just some comment from an random person years ago but I feel like getting that off my chest.

I swear the only thing James talks about in BWBA is his paint.

Yes, even after the likes of All in Vain and Engine of Many Colors, ones like this feels James is beyond help. I saw another Diesel rewrite where Diesel was aggressive on Philip for not being like him, at the fen Philip and the ones behind him push Diesel back, and Paxton sort of backs up Diesels reasons. How crazy would it look for Henry to use Larry's line, there? Also the egg head with glasses sounds like UK/later Diesel.

Thank god this wasn't James' last episode in the main series and S24's "James the Super Engine" gave him a more appropriate send-off. I have seen James vary through all eras of the show. In the classic series (S1-S7) he was more aggressive and hostile; in the Hit and early CGI era he was vain and spoiled but had a kind and helpful side at times. Since Andrew Brenner became head writer James' obsession with his red paint began to escalate to the point where he got poorly flanderized into a obnoxious, narcissistic show off who rarely ever learns anything from his mistakes and Mattel seems to like having it that way.

When it comes to episodes that are universally hated, I might find a way to defend it. However, even I can't disagree about this episode. Back in 2018, this episode did succeed at doing one thing; The impossible! Toppling The Christmas Tree Express as the worst episode of the whole show, but only 2 episodes toppled it the following year.

Thomas has had some mature moments in the BWBA era. "James in the dark" is also the worst James episode because James is completely blind and stupid. l:( James has pulled the Flying Kipper 3 times yet he hasn't questioned what kind of fish he was taking. "James' coalamity" by Nino's Productions felt like a sequel to this toxic episode.

I would rather watched James Goes Buzz Buzz over Apology Impossible episode.

Something else that bothers me about this episode is how James just weaseled out of pulling the sardines even though that was the fat controllers orders remember back in the smelly kipper from season 17 where after the fat controller found out James broke his promise to Henry he ordered James to pull the flying kipper it showed that James had no choice but to listen to the fat controller here though he just straight up went against what the fat controller wanted and he did this again in his meet the steam team video like he will not listen to the fat controller if he has to pull a train he doesn’t want to and will make excuses and go against him and even worse the fat controller is just ok with it cause he gives it to Phillip

Do you know what I first saw this episode, I was shocked that James would say I never made a mistake. I was like what, (cough, cough crashed into tar wagons, detailed into a field & crashed into a poster). It’s just bad how the writer only know how the characters act in their first season, not knowing they changed throughout the seasons.

This episode somehow feels like they want to use James' "arc" in TOTB again. A jerk who makes fun of a tank engine and the tank engine later proved itself to James. However, unlike TOTB, there was no build-up and Jamss was a jerk to Phillip out of nowhere. But at least it isn't the worst BWBA episode.

I feel like this was writers giving fan service by having an old character bully Philip. If that was the case they screwed James's fans over and made a few Philip haters feel sympathy for Philip. My take on Apology Impossible would go like this: James takes his frustration out on Philip because he's angry that Gordon blames him for Edward moving out of the sheds after his crash. Philip talks to Edward about his mistreatment and together they try to help Gordon and James resolve their small feud. In this version of the story James a reason to be mean to Philip instead of James just being a jerk to Philip for no reason.

James is such a show-off.
