Todd, Scott's description of the patch knife is probably correct. It also looks somewhat like a striker that is used by brick masons to strike a line in the mortar after a brick has been laid. This makes a decorative line design between the bricks. I am not familiar with a patch knife, so I would put my money on Scott's identification more than mine.

How can You tell a civil war round ball from a revolutionary war round ball or war of 1812 or french and Indian war
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives 6 ай бұрын
Well....technically you can't unless you measure the Caliber. These pioneers used old Muskets early in the CW but at this site much found is related to the Civil War activity. This ball was a .69 Cal....the only thing that large not from the CW is a Brown and Bess from early colonial.....good questions.

@AppalachianHistoryDetectives

definitely possible. There is a lot of French and Indian over here. The French Indian muskets were the most common during that time and lead was hard to come by during that time so many Indians would cut their bullets into smaller caliber which made them unpredictable when fired and inacurrate. We typically find the French lead balls further west over near the Cacapon River and points west where the forts were located. Happy Holidays@@markzimmerman7279
