I've never used can beans for baked beans. I use white beans and make from scratch. Molassess is also one ingredient I always use.

@@sandraolsen6596 I use either. Just depends what I have in the pantry. I soak them overnite in water, then rinse, add cold water, bring to boil and simmer, covered, until soft. Drain, and use in recipes.

Just so everyone knows.....Make extra. People will take,steal whatever is left in the pot. They are just delicious. I've done fresh peaches, nectarines and apricots. Loads of fun to make with kids. I also use hot sausage. Then dip French bread in it....

Clean up this recipe, and it could become both heathy and delicious; eliminate all the added sugars and processed crap, use fresh roasted apples,, some maple syrup and molasses, mustard, sweet peppers, yellow and sweet vidalia onions, apple/pumpkin pie spices etc...

I see all these comments in Sweet Baby Ray’s. Here in the West Coast it is very inexpensive. If I go to Safeway, it’s the lowest price on the shelf. Didn’t use to be. If you do like BBQ sauce it’s a good one. I think they have a plant ite here or something that makes a version with cheaper ingredients. It’s less than $3 at Safeways. Got it for $1.88 at the Mexican market last time.

It's delicious but very sweet. The 2nd time I made it, I skipped the brown sugar and used cooked apple slices instead of pie filling and it was still yummy.
