They were a mob! They might be fine as individual people but as a group they took things too far that day with dire consequences. They were feeding off of each other and dumping fuel on the fire, the situation kept getting worse and worse. Saying that the old guy could have just walked away from that crowd is ridiculous. I'm sure he was afraid to even go back to his own group fearing that he would lead that mob to his own wife and friends. He was very clearly outnumbered and that crowd was not about to back off.

The old man pulls the knife out of his pocket about 20 seconds before he gets pushed. He had 20 seconds to walk away but chose to kill and attempted to kill multiple people.

It's all Jahwan's fault, he's the one who egged the whole thing on, he's the 1 who began taunting Mr. Miu, and he just wanted to film the whole thing even when the fight broke out, all he did was scream and say "this isn't real this isn't real and just panicked. Juhwan didn't even try to help anyone, and he taunted the guy and egged his crew to surround him, putting him in fear of his life, I think a lot of people are with Mr. Miu. I've seen some of these witnesses tell truthful statements, but I'm sure that all of them likely underrepresent how much they drank, cause they all seem to say 1 or 2 beers. This is from chat gpt- a person who was part of a mob or group involved in an assault can potentially be charged with gang assault even if they did not physically touch the victim themselves. In some jurisdictions, simply being present and participating in the group's actions can be enough to warrant charges, especially if there is evidence of encouragement, support, or intent to aid in the assault. Each case is evaluated based on its specific circumstances and the applicable laws in the jurisdiction.

Yeah pedophiles don't really go around saying that. That is something in cases like this said by young upstarts wanting a viral video by following and accusing someone multiple times of being a pedo and waiting for the resulting self defence. They then blocked his path when he tried to leave and used the "he hit a girl" card after the fact because he didn't hit her at all. She's there saying "I think he hit me". I’m a child of the 60’s. This case is a clear and sad example of the times we are living in. When kids are raised by parents who break the law, and in turn kids have no respect for their elders. It’s very sad. For a father, serving his underaged child alcohol, and then telling the child to “take care” of a situation of chaos, and not handling it himself… God help us all.

Maybe the old drunk man should not have walked away when asked? Maybe he should not have violently charged, attacked, made contact with, grabbed their tubes and blocked them in? Perhaps after the kids screamed for help and group[ 2 asked him to leave he should have left and not pull a knife? He attacked first and he could have walked away the entire time. If self defence why does he wash and dump the knife? Why does he lie to police? Why does he lie and make up an entirely absurd story in interrogation? You don't get to attack people, be asked to leave and then get to claim self defence.

You can freeze frame the video of the incident 4 different times that show the mans response was justified 1. they surround him accost him and push him on the ground 2. They punched him in the face clean shot on the jaw could of easily concussed him or put him in a state of terror and mental stress or confusion 3. the pushed him back into the water after trying to get up could be seen as attempted drowning remember this man was just punched in the jaw 4, the aggresor attacked the victim with both hands you can see it clear as day in the video all four things happened before the man responded. Theres a lesson here and its called just walk away, dont assault people, dont let mob mentality take over, just because you are in a group does not give you immunity to attack people, anyone being attacked by a mob has the right to defend themselves, oh was it too gruesome for you? too fucking bad, if those kids would of knocked him out in the water you dont think they would of let him drown. spare us your simp cards, he justifiably defended himself.

He didn’t then after being yelled at by two tiny girls (once again telling him to get away from the kids) he pulled a knife on them only then was he actually shoved to the ground before anyone stepped to touch him besides the girls not letting him walk closer a kid yells bro he’s got a knife then they shoved him into the water. They would’ve gotten stabbed no matter what they only saved that kid about 30 seconds but it would’ve saved his life if they had been able to keep him down. This man went to start a problem murdered a kid on purpose fled the scene and lied to police until he was shown footage of what he’d done then all of a sudden he was looking for a phone and was “scared” talked to all his friends like nothing had happened like he hadn’t stabbed 4 people and was gonna go about his day. And notice when he did leave it was the direction they had asked him to go. So when they told him over 20 times get tf away from us go go go he could’ve easily gone but instead he chose to stay without another thing coming out of his mouth never backing down or away from anyone. And then stabbed 4 humans killing one disemboweled another and traumatized everyone.

What was his group doing to cover for this guy? Were they deleting videos off their phones, and cordinating this? I think his group is playing stupid games and being allowed to claim they can only speak spanish in some points then getting on stand and wanting to testify without interpeturs. English is his 5th language (he learned last, at a later age), & had relatively recently had a heart attack & quadruple bypass surgery. He had alot of reasons to believe he was in danger(s). I could not convict him of any degree of murder after all I've seen & heard thus far. They want him to look like an irrational, pervy, aggressive man- & seems he is anything but. The defense atty had a great point as to why Jeshwan (sp?) was videotaping everything, & yelling inciting words for all on the river to hear like "Raper!"- he was inciting an incident & stirring it up for the sake of content!! The evidence supports that idea. This didn't have to happen for a lot of reasons; however, the least of which seems to have anything to do with Mr. Liu being a criminal.

I dunno, he did stab people, but I wasn’t surprised he ended up fighting back. If this happened in a parking lot or at night, more people would see this as self defense. Why have all these people on the witness stand when everything is followed with “after watching the video…” is said? Shouldn’t their testimony be based on what they thought and felt in the moment? That is what they reacted to from their viewpoint not the other side where the camera was filming. They didn’t stop and run to check the video and run back to the chaos. The people in HIS group, btw, saw this confrontation, and did NOTHING to come and help him. There are several frames in the video that shows a very CLEAR PATH away from the teens and "group 2" where he could have walked downstream, away from everyone. Stabbed 5 people and is claiming self defense no one would have hit him if he didn’t punch a g young lady Of course someone was going to punch him back for her. Stabbing them isn’t self defense No one deserved to be stabbed the way he did! He isn’t an old man he was early 50s. They were starting their senior year in high school. He could have avoided and defused the situation. This man needs to go to jail the rest of his life! Just terrible that he is now squealing like a baby that he was innocent. Ok we can all agree the teenagers were being obnoxious. However, stabber mcstabberson placed himself in their midst. He walked in between the groups and when confronted by the girls (regardless of their uncouth behavior) he stayed. He didn’t turn around and walk back the way he came. He stayed and then he punched a minor female in the face. Then when the totality of his own poor choices came crashing down on him, and yes he was definitely in a precarious situation (for which he placed himself), rather than calling out for help, apologizing or attempting to reason with anyone, or make any attempt to deescalate the situation, he began stabbing people, mostly minors… to death in one case. Let’s all just take a step back and think about how he came to be in the position he was in. Who became physically violent first. Shouting rude things, cursing at someone, laughing at someone, while all poor behavior and again obnoxious, is not battery. I agree these kids were behaving badly. Fueled by alcohol and pack mentality… but not one thing they did, in my opinion, warranted being maimed and/or killed by stabbing.

They did a forensic search of her phone and didn’t find any pictures taken or deleted during the time of the incident or subsequent days. None of the kids who testified could even say which side of the face she was hit or how it happened. Both cops that testified said they did not see any injuries on Maddie’s face. Again this is another unfortunate incident where alcohol and egos and people instigating a situation goes wrong.

I see a bunch of comments about whether the kids or Nicolae Miu were in the wrong for escalating. Depending on who you sympathize with let's us know a lot about you. Let's just all remember that being rude is not against the law and assault and stabbing is. The video obviously shows Nicolae Miu approaching at the beginning. He throws the first punch, and though he is pushed down twice he is given the chance to get up and walk away both times. Nicolae Miu has no difficulty leaving once he decides to. Both groups escalated but only Nicolae Miu closed the distance instead increasing it. Only Nicolae Miu took things from words to blows. Only Nicolae Miu took things from blows to stabbings. Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words are too much for Nicolae Miu to handle. If you're reaction to this story was, "kids should know better" your moral compass is flawed. He barely swung his arm each time. Everyone knows the gut is softer than most other parts of the body, and that's where he aimed everytime. A "thug trying to get maximum damage" would aim for the throat or hell, maybe even inner thigh, as that has the femoral artery. He didn't even hold it like anyone trying to do a lot of damage. He has to swing his whole arm each time he takes a jab rather than reversing the grip and only needing to extend his elbow.

To be honest, I think Miu didn’t walk away due to his ego and the fact that he had a knife. I do think the alcoholic young adults were being bullying assholes, but someone in their 50’s knows better to walk away in that kind of situation. He had multiple chances to just walk away back to his group before more drunken people came over to “help” (escalate). I think the reason he didn’t leave was because he was triggered by what was being said and that knife in his pocket gave him too much confidence. It’s like the bullied kids in high school that become bullying cops on a power trip because they have a gun now. The dude was like 50 and some people are calling him elderly… come on. He was a big guy. You could see in his eyes he had been living for a moment like this for a long time where he could claim self-defense. He finally had his moment. The dude was huge-he lost weight over the last 2 years so he could look fragile and elderly, but he’s still in his 50’s. Definitely ego played a huge role in why he stuck around and he knows it. And, supposedly he was the only one sober. He should have known better… I try to feel bad for the guy, but he had years of life experience on all those people and his head was clearer because he wasn’t drunk himself. If he would have walked away back towards his group and then been attacked from behind that would have been a whole different story.

A member of his own group told the cops where he threw it.
