When I saw Twilight's heart shatter, I felt like I lost something important in my life.

Smolder was such a great supporter to Spike in this episode! Love that sassy draggy!

Thank you, every comment I see is about how this episode sucks because they glossed over Spikes backstory and didnt live up to it, blah blah blah, and no one really mentions how Twilight shines in this episode. She was so genuine and understanding, and truely amazing in this episode. her actions got overshadowed by people complaining about the whole dad issue, from what ive seen in most comments. Twilight made this episode amazing, shes such a good mommy

Around the 38 minute mark, you missed a big opportunity to say this to Spike. "Your past does not define you, 'cause your past is not today."

I really hope we get some closure to Spike’s natural born family next season. Just like Applejack’s parents, his parents have been in the dark for a long time.

Poor Spike. I wanted to smack the scales off of Sludge when I saw this episode

Despite the fact that this episode went with the "not actually related" cliche which made this one feel like a frustrating throwaway, it does give me hope that they could still fully explain Spikes backstory and the implications that it could bring before the show wraps up.

Twilight didn't let Spike down, she hatched and raised him from birth, she cared for him as if he were her own child so did Shining Armor who considered him his little brother in Sparkle's Seven he said " The little brother we've always had ". Sure him and Twilight get into disagreements from time to time but what family members don't, like this episode he thought she was jealous when she was only concerned about Sludge taking advantage of him making him sleep outside while he hogged Spike's cozy bed. And I remember the episode Owl's well that ends well when Spike ran away because he thought Twilight loved her new pet owl Owlicious more than him, she still went looking for him like any concerned mother would and she expressed how worried she and everyone else including Owlicious were about him. If that doesn't spell LOVE I don't know what the hell does and the only thing she's guilty of is being a good mother.

We've seen Twilight's feelings be hurt before, but with now they made it look like her heart actually broke in this episode...man did i want to just reach through the TV, and hug the poor thing. Twilight might f**k up occasionally, but she didn't deserve that. On a lighter note, it was funny now Sludge literally threw Starlight out of the castle while she was taking a bath... though it'll been more funny if she came out and blasted HIM out of the castle, because his lazy, lying tail deserved it, badly!!

This episode was really good. I especially liked how Smolder acted like a big sister to Spike. She was supportive to him in The Molt Down and she did it again here. She even called Sludge out on his bs.

Small detail I inexplicably love; Smolder shutting down all of Sludge's excuses. I don't know why, that was just more poignant than if she argued the point. Good on you, Smolder!

Anyone else realize this is similar to a real world dilemma where boys who are raised by single mothers do not know how to behave like "real men?" It was just something I thought about.

Okay, I thought this was going to be a cringey, bad episode like 'Yakety Sax', but it turned out better than I thought. I saw you along with your fellow Minnesota Bronies in the new Doors 3 video alone with Argodaemon, and it was great!

Notice how at 16:26 how Twilight's eyes move down when Spikes “father” rolls over? Wonder what she's looking at. 😏 Plus her reaction by backing out of the room like that is interesting.

Was just thinking about Twilight and Spike's relationship---- To get INTO Celestia's school, Twilight had to open Spike's egg and got her cutie mark at the same time---- now either someone else cared for him as a 'infant', or Twilight had to raise him while putting herself through magic school / elementary. And since Twilight has said she raised him from an egg, she's admitting she put herself through school while raising a creature she knew NOTHING about. It's not really that much of a surprise that Twilight was a successful pony, considering if she had him to care for, she needed to succeed. Hidden shout out to young/teen mothers there too.

This was a good episode not as great as the previous ones but still good Twilight was great and I loved Spike’s interactions with Smolder I hated Sludge though he sucked I always loved Twilight she’s always so kind and caring towards everyone she’s amazing and my favourite of the main 6 she has had some issues in this season unfortunately were she should have known better and stuff which is very unfortunate but like the rest of the main 6 she makes mistakes I will fault her on said mistakes but I’ll always love her I hope you enjoy the finale great reaction as per usual I love Twilight’s relationship with Spike

I was disappointed that Slug wasn't his real dad, but he wasn't being a good role model for him. I'd really like to know where Spike came from and how his egg ended up at Celestia's school.

After Spike got wings I wondered since all dragons molt and he got wings then why the others made fun of him for not having wings maybe he is a different type of dragon which is why it was so different not have wings yet and why he is so small compared to smolder and the others

Just watched it and, yeah...kind of a let down. It wasn't exactly BAD per say, but at the same time it wasn't THAT GOOD either. Honestly, more than anything, I'm disappointed. Disappointed that when they FINALLY addressed about Spike's status as an orphan and Spike's unknown parents, THIS is how they did it. A fake out? I mean...really? I get the message. Home is what you make of it. Family are the ones that are closest to your heart. I perfectly understand all that, and it was a highlight in here. But at the same time...come on. At least let us know who Spike's REAL parents are or what happened to them! Come on MLP staff. Don't just NOT address it, AT ALL! We got another season coming, I HOPE they address there. I REALLY do. It also REALLY sucks that Sludge didn't get ANY REPERCUSSIONS FOR HIS ACTIONS! YOU LIED TO SOMEONE CLAIMING TO BE THEIR FATHER, MOOCHED OFF OF HIM AND LEFT WITH ZERO CONSEQUENCES!!! If THAT'S not injustice then I don't know what the HELL it is! This episode was the chance to have something actually beautiful and they dropped the ball completely. At least on addressing Spike's parents. Smolder and Twilight were the highlights here, definitely. Though, I think it was kind of stupid of Twilight and the main six to accept Sludge as Spike's father JUST LIKE THAT. I can't blame Spike for anything that's happened here. He so badly wanted to see him as his father that he became blinded. It's pretty sad and yet I feel like they treat it as a joke here by faking him out. Sad in general. (This is just my opinion) Through out the series, there have been two kinds of people. Those who view Twilight and Spike's relationship as Mom and son, those who view it as sister and brother. I've always viewed it as sister and brother. Since I'm the brother to a little sister, I've noticed that Twilight and Spike have had a very similar dynamic like I do with my sister. Yet they unofficially claimed that they're pretty much mom and son. I'm...honestly both disappointed...and kinda weirded out. They just never felt like a mom and son duo. Not only that but how in the hell can a little kid raise a DRAGON by themselves! They can't, they will need help of course. So with all the help Twilight gets, how could Spike solely see Twilight as his mother? I don't know. I'm sure there will be counter arguments but that's just how I see it. (In the show at least.) In my little fanfic world I see them as two long term best friends who eventually fall in love. That will NEVER change ;) Overall, the episode was average if not a disappointment and hope they will address Spike's parents in the next season in a SERIOUS WAY. Hope the finale is good.

This episode makes me feel for Spike so much!

I'm really surprised but happy that they did an episode like this. Yeah the whole the parent isn't really their parent is a big fat cliche, but it worked. I love Spike's character and love how he's been developing, he really needed something like this for his character. Seeing Twilight's actual heart breaking was just, it was a punch to the gut. Even though I'm not adopted I can totally understand where Spike is coming from though; I mean he was defending the guy because he thought he was his dad, someone that he never thought he'd get to meet. I see this as an episode that it doesn't matter who or where Spike's parents are, but that Twilight is his true family and that's all that matters. Would I love to see an episode about Spike's biological parents? Heck yeah. But to me it isn't as important as this message was. I love that MLP still continues to do mature lessons like this; I thought something like this would be a little too mature for little kids to handle, but I think it's good that we have this for the ones who maybe are going through something similar or would like to know their true biological parents, this lesson is there for them.

Even though Sludge did a terrible thing, I love the way he is designed and animated.

I noticed that if Spike 'wanted' to know more about the dragon ways he could always talk to Smolder. But he's clearly more interested in the pony ways. We're all products of our environment. I couldn't help but think of immigrants, and how (on average) the first generation tends to stick to their own ways more, while their children try to act more like their peers, and in turn their children start to try and learn about their heritage. Cultures do end up mixing, and maybe that's what we see here.

Really looking forward to his reaction with the finale. XD
