I want to say a hearty thank you for all your helpful videos. I never dreamed I could do what I have learned to do through watching everything you publish. Thank you so much. I just finished a butterfly applique quilt for my granddaughter and can barely wait to see her reaction at Christmas time. I have also pieced a full-size quilt for my daughter that I hope to get quilted by Christmas. Again, thank you so much! (I made the choice to do for others first and now understand why we would do better to do for ourselves first!)

Great tutorials and love watching you both. You are wonderful at what you do Why do you not just add the 1/4 inch in your patterns instead of the user having to. Much easier for most and especially for new quilters and those who love appliqueing if your patterns already had the 1/4 inch in the pattern.

It's available at Jo-Ann online only, but be prepared to pay about $6 just for postage. Same with amazon. I've tried several regular glue sticks and they've all worked great. If I lived close to Missouri Quilt Co., (which I certainly wish I did) I would buy my supplies there. They all seem like such good people. Regarding threading the needles. Most people try to push the thread through the eye of the needle. What I have found works best for me is to moisten the end of the thread and squeeze it between thumb and forefinger. Then, making sure the eye of the needle is perpendicular to the thread, I wiggle the needle down between my fingers, which will force it over the thread. Saves sooooo much time and aggravation trying to find that "sweet spot" where my vision will let me see the eye of the needle!

Jenny's ladder stitch is called a blind stitch elsewhere. LOL. I also apply liquid starch on the seam allowances before ironing them back because I do remove the paper before applique down. It is messier though. Wish there was a washable glue stick.

Also, instead of gluing you could starch the fabric. Take a piece of Mylar template plastic and fold the edges over it and dab on some liquid starch. Put on iron to it until it dries and viola, :) Hope that helps. :)

I have been intimidated by applique, so thank you for these great tutorials. I do have a few questions: (1) The stitch on the applique edge seems very similar to the stitch used when hand-sewing a quilt binding (which I learned from Jenny) is that correct? (2) Is she using a single or double thread? (3) When she threads her needle, how does she make that quick knot she pulls to the end of the thread? Thanks again!

Very Disappointed with your international postage prices... I would love to buy this kit and try it out, both for myself and my daughter, however I cannot justify $39.95 postage to Australia when the kit only costs $34.95, so I thought I would look at the pattern only (no fabric) for $6.90 and I must say $39.95 for postage to Australia is still absolutely absurd for posting a pattern. It's a shame really. Do you perhaps offer a PDF pattern with no postage involved? Renee

I watched it three times but I too could not see how she made the stitch nor could I see what she meant by taking a double stitch at the end of the black piece before she made her knot. This is such an important thing because no matter which stitch I try to do it always shows at the edge of the applique. Please....can you add an update to the series and maybe get in over her shoulder or something so we can see her stitching. Thanks, great tutorial otherwise. Can't wait to see the rest!

I bought this applique project twice. The 1st one didn't have the correct fabric instructions right and when I tried to put it together it wasn't right. The second time I purchased this everything was right, but when I looked at the diagram for fabric identification for fabric placement, I found that the diagram is wrong. So I went back to this video to see the correct placement. My question is, can you send me the correct diagram so I can finish my project. Evidently when they was coping the instructions they got it mixed up with something else. Because the diagram on the video is different from the diagram that was sent to me..If you can, either send me the right diagram or email the correct one. Thank you so much.

@julieduggan1468
@julieduggan1468 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mary, in reference to you asking about why your pieces ruffled after basting is simple. The basting or tacking stitches have been pulled too tight, when sewing them. So, make sure no tacking stitches are not stretched, which will result in ruffled needle turn stitches. 🤔 Hope this helps, okay.

Is there any difference using a left hand versus right hand to sew? So the goal is no stitch is suppose to show on applique? How tight do you pull your thread as you "stitch"? How much fabric is picked up on the needle on the background and the top piece to connect the two fabrics together? No hoops are used? I couldn't see the corners on the final fold. Is there a bulk on the corners? How do you sew the corners on the windows, door, house?
@mumblesandwool1243
@mumblesandwool1243 7 жыл бұрын
carol thomas yes! if youre left handed, you should be stitching from left to right (start on the left side of your applique and travel around the edge heading right and follow all the way around) if youre right handed, sew right to left :)

Couldn't you iron the freezer paper onto the regular piece of paper and print onto the freezer paper? Or even iron the freezer paper onto a piece of scrap fabric and run it through the printer as well? That way you don't get the wax from the freezer paper into your printer and you know you are printing it on the dull paper side?
